It's so weird to me to remember that Gilgamesh is an early game threat, since he will always accept friendship on the first turn you meet him, making early war a non-threat.
Believe me, I go back and wonder if I was dedicated to making him my friend from that first turn if he would have stopped moving west and taken a run at Arabia instead. History is funny that way.
