@@LucidMakesVideosMaybe do one about DRG's Laser Pointer and how it completely changed inter-player communication in DRG? That would be quite interesting to see.
Legendary 3 engi here. I don't recommend building ceilings above defense objectives except in extremely specific circumstances (million septic spreaders, very weird terrain, etc). If you do build a ceiling, DO NOT make it a low ceiling. Bugs crawling on the bottom of the ceiling should not be able to hit you. If the ceiling is too low, it risks being worse than nothing because it enables bugs to get close to you (often within melee range) with zero time to shoot them. Repellent takes a while to understand. A good way to think of it is that a platform is not a small blob of repellent - it actually turns a whole patch of the surrounding terrain into repellent. th-cam.com/video/m8P3t9qJHu4/w-d-xo.html Try to stand a couple meters away from the platforms, because standing too close can cause the bugs to decide that the fastest way through you is over the repellent after all. Large surface areas covered with repellent can block off incredibly large angles, making defense much easier while still allowing you to shoot the bugs the whole time. Some tips here: th-cam.com/video/MXgD_GIMxlc/w-d-xo.html
The repellent upgrade is even deeper than you think as optimal usage requires a good understanding of how enemy AI pathing works. Waste did a excellent video going over how it works and how to utilize it well.
@@LucidMakesVideosyeah, there’s one key thing about using it you forget to mention in the video: the bugs avoid it *if possible,* they don’t avoid it *period.* If you surround yourself in a complete ring of bug repellent platforms, then the bugs will walk right over it, as they have no choice if they want to get to you. In order for the platforms to actually repel bugs, there must be some path they can take to get to you that *isn’t* covered by a platform.
I would love to see a video covering Driller's Reinforced Power Drills. There may not be as much to compare them to in other games, but in the context of DRG they have so much versatility.
Not enough players use drills to let teams get close to korloks (and when paired with platforms can make the fight WAY easier) or to remove cover/concealment for bugs during area defense situations. Also making bugs take longer to get to you by increasing the distance they have to travel!

It's the greatest gun in video game history because in a game of assinine verticality when playing solo, it literally let's you make stairs and perfect walkways for the many pipes of the game.
"Is the platform gun actually a weapon if it does not kill things?" The plascrete catalyst overclock on the shard diffractor would like a word with you😂

i use the clip size and extra ammo on my platform gun and it's quite nice. we tend not to resupply very often, and there's been several times where i'm fine on ammo and give mine to someone else cuz i still have plenty of platforms left.
Another niche use for the platforms is in the beamer section of the ommoran heartstone extraction, beamers will just stop spawning if you cover doretta’s head due to you blocking their path
Ah yes, the plat gun doesnt kill anything. *cough cough* plascrete catalyst *cough cough* Can kill an oppressor within 5 seconds with a single platform grenade. 🙃
This is one of the things about this game that i like. The classes each are easy enough to start playing and learn, but when you specialize in specific class, you can use advanced tactics with their own skills, like Engineer with platform gun.
I actually completely agree with this, except for that bit at the end. I can't help but disagree with you on "the definition of a weapon". The way words are used in video games is sometimes very different from the way they get used in real life because of the way information is conveyed to the player. You can pull that "alternative definition" stuff in real life but in video games, no. A weapon HAS to hurt and potentially kill things to qualify because that is what players believe a weapon IS and what they want it to DO. It's not up to players to "broaden their horizons" it's up to games to deliver intended concepts as clearly as possible, and arbitrarily re-defining a support tool as a weapon because it "helps the player win" is not conducive to this goal. The Codex Scanner in Warframe is not a weapon. It's a tool. Just because I can take Helios with me and slap on "Detect Vulnerability" to help me kill enemies more efficiently, or even just use the scanner to see enemies through walls to help avoid their line of sight while trying to stealth through a mission, doesn't mean I can call it a weapon. That said this was a GREAT video and I have to admit when I first played Engi I felt like the Platform Gun was just underwhelming as a mobility tool. I was constantly worried about running out of ammo and not having enough platforms if I didn't ration them properly (Yes, imagine me doing that after maining GUNNER, who has it even WORSE). After I went back to playing him recently (after maining Scout for 2 promotions), I appreciate the platform gun a lot more. The ammo it has is actually JUST right. When I start to run low on ammo I don't sweat it because II usually have enough Nitra for a resupply. I'm even confident spamming it for trivial things like just giving myself something soft to land on when I jump down so I don't have to waste time looking for a safer way.
i absolutely adore your variety videos, your format is just so perfectly suited to talk about basically anything. ive never even PLAYED deep rock galactic but you presented it in such an engaging way that i couldnt help but be interested. ill definitely keep an eye out for anything else you make about this game, or any others frfr, i love hearing about the complexities of shit ive never seen before sdifhsildfh
It's so satisfying when I Encounter a engineer greenbeard and I show them to put the put a platform underneath the ores. You feel like you helped a fellow dwarf improve there gameplay. It's awesome. ROCK ANS STONE and great video as always Also thoughts on season 5 of DRG?
The platform gun is a wonder to have on caretaker missions, where i use it in my patent pending PAF strategy. "Pancake Assault Fortress" Basically, make a pancake stack between 2 arms, put turrets next to it and a resup behind it, and hide like a coward until the eye opens, then run like hell to poke it in said eye.
Here’s another fun, niche application of the platform gun: On modded difficulty solos where pacing is incredibly important, people often tend to struggle to get through the first dirt patch quickly enough to gather the required nitra for the first swarm. Engineer has a leg up on scout and gunner in this, though. Platforms count as single hit terrain, so by wedging platforms into the dirt, people can mine much wider holes, faster!
1st application of the term "weapon" also works if you use an overclock from another weapon that basicly converts platforms into a literal mine... so not only is it arguably the best traversal tool in the game, its also an actual weapon...
It reminds me of the GLOO gun from prey 2017. You can create platforms with it. I've blocked the broken electrical panels and pipes that spit out fire. It also puts out fire. The only difference is that I noticed is that you can temporarily freeze enemies to allow a few free hits.
The platform gun lands in a spot that only one other weapon has been in before for me, and that would be the GOO launcher from Prey 2017 Can perform in combat and exploration, has infinite potential, and is still an exceptionally useful tool even by the last mission of the game
Its certainly a weapon that helps against my constant need of building weird structures, rivalling the very depths of hoxxes itself. Also funny yellow rock snake =)
Theres another factor in it that i never see brought up anywhere; it's platforms are bright yellow. No other biome is bright yellow (except maybe some of the coral structures in Biozone, but theyre more orange), the closest thing i can think of is the tutorial biome, but we never see it again after completing that mission Also i absolutely do not consider it a "weapon", unless you take the Plastcrete Catalyst OC, in which it becomes very satisfying ammo. I'd generally discourage dling big ceilings like you showed, unless they are far enough above the players, cos other wise bugs will just get over the Bug Repellent (since all it does is make their pathfinding think the plats are 2x as big as they actually are, so eventually they get over it and just walk on them), and start walking on and attacking u from the ceiling. If u cant make a ceiling, then a far better method is to just make a crown of plats around the wall they'll be swarming down, making them instead path to the floor, then to the players, which reduces how much the players get distracted by bugs on the walls/ceiling getting in their faces and distracting them from the main bugs on the floor
The intro give me SYNTHETIK and crisis 2 vipes for some reason. I remember suggesting the platform gun should get more upgrades and even overclock. like imagining an upgrade that let you shoot thin pillar as alternative fire mode. or foam upgrade that turn the foam into liquid that you spray. and when you spray the wall. you can climb on it like a ladder. of course those upgrades could ruin defined class role.
Great video as always Lucid! The sheer versatility and applications of the platform gun makes it so unique amongst not even DRG, but gaming itself! Mobility, offensive, and defensive, you name it, the gun can do it all!. In other hands it would be funni if you could do the same for the zipline, but contrary since that weapon fails in so many ways it becomes comical lmao.
hey, theres that overclock for the engi's laser that makes platforms go KABOOM. sure its a conditional thing, you gotta find that overclock, but man is it fun!
I don't see you talking about this, also the comment section doesn't talk about this. With platform you can play engi as literal soldier tf2 playing jump_academy_Hoxxes_IV , rj250 grenade sync before landing on top of platform will grant you near 100% fall dmg reduction. On top of that you can do climb animation to keep the speed momentum after rj250 jump or a usage of dash if you touch the edge of the platform while also extending your normal jump distance. This in my opinion is the peak skill ceiling on platform usage.
it sounds like you have a huge biast to this gun, but i also thing it is well desighnt just not sooo mutch better thean the other movment tools from drg ex. the Drill is in my apinoin quite simular in a good disighn to the platform gun

8:39 obsolete?? What are you talking about? That upgrade has nothing to do with firing speed nor animation cancelling, dog 😅 If you aren't using the Disabled Inertia Inhibitor, it's possible to fall faster than your platform projectile. Have you not unlocked RJ250 yet? There is a good reason that the PGL can use Disabled Inertia Inhibitor, too. 8:59 also, that ceiling is too low so its cons outweigh its pros. Please make future ones high enough off the ground so that bugs can't reach you with melee from above
Well you confirmed, engineer is the best class in DRG But I have some other thoughts 1. -You-still-haven't-provided-any-reason-why-it's-not-a-tool-.-A-weapon-is-a-tool-with-the-purpose-to-defeat/inure/stun/hinder/supress/pacify-the-enemy/enemies-,-this-is-not-a-weapon-,-it's-a-tool-,-a- -traversal-tool- -with- -support-usage- 2. Being overpowered is not good game design, even if In DRG it's hard to say something is really too powerfull. Being able to ignore the level layout difficulty by sealing holes you don't like and making things much simpler and linear is pushing it a little. Also the fact just like most traversal/support tools in DRG, their costumization is pretty bad, with not many equally viable choices, which does make a weapon worse, if it's customization is badly designed
1. I never say a tool can't be a weapon. The platform gun is a weapon AND a tool. They aren't mutually exclusive. 2. I never say the platform gun is OP, nor do I believe it to be. The gun rewards the player for putting in the effort to get better with it, but it never becomes an "I Win" button. It's advantages are always surmountable by the opposition. Not overpowered at all.
@@LucidMakesVideos 1. Yeah, I already crossed that one, it just felt weird you put the "is it a weapon?" much later than your "what is a weapon" 2. I am not saying the platform gun is op to the point of an I win button, I do play DRG, I know better than that, but those 3 10's do feel like they're based a lot on the platform gun being really strong, which doesn't neccesarily justify. The -if an engineer places a platform to get out of a hole, teamnates can use it too later if they also need to get out of the hole can be applied to driller and gunner too, both of them can make a pathway for everyone else. A tool with infinite applications, where you always find more is a lot of credit to give to a weapon that just makes solid surfaces to me. unrightfully? I am not saying that, but while there's a bunch of uses, most of them do fall under traversal: just crossing gaps or climbing, like you said the many wall tactics with replellent are rarely used by players, especially average players. Saving yourself from a fall by putting a platform down while falling becomes just standart and nothing inovative after a while Also when it can seal bunkers and make you fully safe except for 2 enemies and bosses that can dig terrain, it is a bit overpowered, DRG just isn't a sweatily hard game where these things are neccesary or the team would agree to it.
Good video but that part about justifying it being a weapon was so cringy. Just say you did it for a yt cool title. You know you're reaching when you need to look up a definition to support your argument.
@@LucidMakesVideos Argumentation isn't built upon definitions anywhere outside 7th grade. Argumentation is built upon reasoning. And a big part of reasoning that's missing from your argument is pure common sense. If it walks like a duck, acts like a duck... and platform gun is not a duck. I could make your exact argument for grappling hook couldn't I? I guess jumping is also a weapon because it could be classified "as a means of gaining an advantage or defending oneself in a conflict or contest". See now why using definitons to defend your arguments doesn't work? Saying that platform gun is a weapon is absurd. We already have a perfect existing name for something like that - tool. It's a tool. Just like grappling hook, or flare gun etc. They are very obviously tools not weapons Again, I'm not trying to antagonize you. I actually liked the video until that part and enjoyed it

1. -You-still-haven't-provided-any-reason-why-it's-not-a-tool-.-A-weapon-is-a-tool-with-the-purpose-to-defeat/inure/stun/hinder/supress/pacify-the-enemy/enemies-,-this-is-not-a-weapon-,-it's-a-tool-,-a- -traversal-tool- -with- -support-usage-
Yeah, I already crossed that one, it just felt weird you put the "is it a weapon?" much later than your "what is a weapon"
Saving yourself from a fall by putting a platform down while falling becomes just standart and nothing inovative after a while
Also when it can seal bunkers and make you fully safe except for 2 enemies and bosses that can dig terrain, it is a bit overpowered, DRG just isn't a sweatily hard game where these things are neccesary or the team would agree to it.
Best weapon is hands down, is the rocket launcher.
Now that you have gone over the BEST weapon, can you go over the WORST?
Bro trizooka is not well designed 😭it does make a very 'immediate" impact though
One issue with this video.
Deep rock galacitc isn't near perfect it is perfect no question
Good video but that part about justifying it being a weapon was so cringy. Just say you did it for a yt cool title. You know you're reaching when you need to look up a definition to support your argument.
Argumentation is built upon definitions. I didn't do all that for a cool YT video title, I could've called the video anything.
They are very obviously tools not weapons
Again, I'm not trying to antagonize you. I actually liked the video until that part and enjoyed it
that was cool
Karl will approve of this
Driller is better imo
can driller create a literal minefield with his traversal tool tho?
can driller create and not destroy tho?
@@aperksyes, yes he can
