Thanks for the info and your walk and talk. What a beautiful scenery! I own this GPS for over a year, but I never started using it as much as I should, tbh. Even while it's quite basic, I was looking for the best way to create a route, using separate maps. Something you showed! Thanks again
I love the idea of just using the big compass arrow to follow a route rather than the tiny map trail. It's brilliant for those of us who use reading glasses. Do hiking watches offer something similar?
Hi Jon, I just bought this model direct from Garmin, now it comes with topo Europe maps, however after I updated it on Garmin Express for the 1st time, fine UK detail had vanished, only the world base map was shown when I wanted to see my location on the map screen again. In the maps page it appears my update installed central Europe only. I have now figured out how to install Europe west (UK SPAIN FRANCE), is there a way to add all components of the full Europe mapping onto my device. I hope you can advise, many thanks in advance for reading this. When I tour in my camper, I won't have a laptop with garmin express to install another map section and there could be a crossover conflict of map coverage, ie travelling from France into Germany, this seems crazy to me.
Ian, I hope you understand if I gave tech support for every unit Garmin sold it would be a no win situation. Please do take a look at our support packages - gpstraining.co.uk/collections/gps-support-packages AND we do have a special offer for our TH-cam subscribers - mailchi.mp/gpstraining/youtubeoffer I hope you understand and believe me you are better dealing with one of my tech team to sort out problems going forward than me! I hope this helps.
Thanks for your question, you need OS maps on your GPS unit and you need to plug it into your PC/ Mac. this video may help you - th-cam.com/video/fu0PU7Qni8s/w-d-xo.html
@@ukgpstraining Brilliant, thanks very much for your help. After all the time I've had my eTrex 35t, I can finally start to use it to it's full capability!
Hi I have the etrex 35 and have looked at creating a route to give me audible notifications at waypoints but it came up with an error ( something about more than 50 on the road issues) , I have 66 points to the route ( off road hike) I thought routes can have 250 waypoints or this because I have tones set .
Hi Jon, love your video, but I have an oddity with my Etrex 35. Unlike your video, when I end my walk, I Stop, Save, but don’t get the next screen to stop navigation. The result is any subsequent walk adds that mileage onto the last walk. Very frustrating.
Jock, I don't normally do tech support via youTube (otherwise I would spend all my time supporting every GPS user in the world), BUT I think your unit needs to be master reset and that will take everything back to factory settings - gpstraining.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000135980-how-do-i-perform-a-master-reset-on-my-etrex-touch- I hope this helps.
All modern Garmin GPS units have an area calculator built in. I would personally encourage you to look at either a GPSMAP 65s or GPSMAP 66sr as these are the most accurate, as they are multi band.
I started having trouble with my Etrex Touch 35 after the last firmware update. I have been carrying it on my daily 5 mile walk (6 days a week) and a GPSmap62 and a ForeTrex 401 track pretty well with SARTopo on my phone. However, the 35 is now acting like I attached it to a rooster. Could you possibly compare your touch 35 on a walk while also using another unit?
Bobby, thanks for your comment. Did you get your GPS from us, if so our tech team will be able to get you sorted, please just give them a call. If you bought it elsewhere (therefore you don't have access to our tech team) and it has been working OK I would suggest a master reset and set the unit up again from scratch. I hope this helps.
@@ukgpstraining The master reset doesn't take the firmware back. I didn't buy it from you, but thought, that since you have multiple videos of various units, a comparison of tracks would be interesting.
@@GoVols We have not had any customers with the same problem, is the track very erratic i.e. jumping all over the place when recording? Is it faulty do you think after the last software update? If you think it is you will be aware Garmin have a two year warranty on GPS Units.
What is battery lifetime on etrex Touch35? I read reviews where is it max 6-8hrs instead of stated by manufacturer 16hrs? How is Etrex 32x non touch in comparison?
If you put in poor batteries you will not get many hours of use out of any Outdoor GPS device, but if you put some good quality batteries in (we recommend rechargeable batteries) I would expect to get 12 - 13 hours from a Touch 35t. You will get 2 hours more from an eTrex 32x, you find none touch screen units get more battery life. I hope this helps.
I use rechargeable batteries and after about 8 hours I will have a bar, maaaaaaybe two left. My guess is that it also depends on whether you are just tracking your hike, which is what I mostly do, or navigate with it. It is nice that it continues tracking your path after changing the batteries, I don't know if that's a setting or not.
It would be a good way forward. My only question would be, do you do much winter walking? If so, I would also put the GPS MAP 65s into the pot for you to look at. I hope this helps.

Noted, I did go a little overboard with the music in this vide. Hopefully I have learnt since I made this video.

My etrex 30 unit seems to show high elevation gain compared to other gps units, about 25%, (dakota 20 and oregon) do you know why this might be?
Has it always done this, or has it just started doing it?

Why? Why the loud music? You’re barely audible.
Thanks for your feedback, it was a little loud on that video. I never stop learning. Stay safe.
Turn down the music on your videos. It's really hard to hear and understand you for the Yankee.
