I just brought one of these home here a few weeks back. Its a 162 SE. My first ever husky. I've had to replace the ignition coil, carb kit installed, 3 of the 6 AV mounts were broken so I'm replacing all 6. I don't even have a bar and chain for it yet but I just love the saw. Very friendly to work on, beautifully designed, tons of great parts available. I'm looking at doing a base gasket delete. They make a 72cc top end kit for these saws, that would be really fun to do someday. I enjoyed watching your video about your saw. Thanks for sharing

Leave the saw the way it is. Aftermarket “big bore” kits are garbage. If you want to hop it up a bit find a 266XP muffler and carb. Those parts will wake that 162 up.

I bought a 162 SG (heated handles) new in 1978...still have it. Great saw. The only problems I've had over the years is the fuel line needed replacement as well as one of the vibration dampers. Though lately I have had to wear gloves when using it due to shocks. I assume a ground strap must have broken or something. Your's seems to have a different muffler on it than mine. The '1978 models had a single exhaust port with a screw in spark arrestor/baffle.

They are fantastic saws for sure. Since reviving this one I've only had one problem with it about a month ago and it wasnt the saws fault. The ceramic around the spark plug electrode exploded in the cylinder. Cleaned it out and put a new plug in and it was ready to cut again. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I have a slightly older 162SE. Mine never had a chain break.
I am the original owner and bought it to cut pulp and timber in northern Michigan. It is a tough saw, and has served me well for 43 years.
I recently replaced the fuel line when it rotted, and years ago the ignition coil had to be replaced. Of course, I wore out the original chain and bar long ago. I was able to replace my bar with an Oregon though.

It's still a hell of a saw. Rips through the oak around here no problem. I've had good luck with parts off ebay even though most of what I get is chinese reproduction.

Hi there - greetings from Denmark =) I just bought the same saw - but it does not have the chain guide plate - do you know if the saw is born with it? I cant seem to find it anywhere online - do you have a link to where you bought yours? Thank you for a nice video! =)
    Kind regards - Kristian

Hello! I have seen people run the saws without the guide plates, but I would always use them if possible. The plates are still available on ebay. I will reply again with a link.

I think my husky is just the same, just can't see the model number because of scratches, mine even after heavy use still perfect functional. I don't use it any more for I switched to battery power, I keep it for memory. I with like to got new oil cap, I have went to huskvarna dealer here in Portugal and new one is not available any more.
It was my first saw and a good saw.

Hi, Could you share the link, where you have bought the parts? I got exactly the same from my grandfather and the ignition parts are completely done due to the chain oil and fuel.
I would need to replace them.
    Greets from Austria!

I'm thinking of going to buy one tomorrow. For 200 says it runs and cuts great what are some things the look for before buying on this particular saw

There isn't too much to be concerned with to be honest. Especially if the saw is in running order. Most detrimental issues can be ruled out by the fact that the saw runs. Beyond that, parts are readily available and can even be adapted off newer saws. That being said, pay attention to the chain brake (if it has one), check the bar and chain for excessive wear, and run the saw for a period of time. If possible do a few test cuts. The saw should "sing" a nice consistent tone as it eats through a log. No popping sputtering or bogging. $200 sounds like a fair price for a running saw in good condition.

Aslo has a husqvarna 61 for sale. Do you know the difference between the 2

    • @NorthwoodsNoise
      @NorthwoodsNoise  4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@kolbyellington7090 The 61 is part of the same series as the 162. I believe the 162 was the first model in the series and the 61 was a later revision. If my memory serves me they are practically the same saw and almost all parts are interchangeable. That's not to say they're exactly the same saw. But both worth buying in my book. In my opinion the build quality far surpasses that of the husky homeowner saws sold in stores today.

what did you do to stop the gas from leaking out the bottom of the saw? I just bought one of these that hasn't run in years. The gas line is missing on the side of the carb.

    • @NorthwoodsNoise

The gas was leaking from the cap itself. The oring on the cap was dried up, so I soaked it in some 10w40 for 3 days and that solved the problem. Is yours leaking from the cap or somewhere else? I've bought another 162 and a 61 since redoing this one and I absolutely love them. Best saws I've ever owned.
