It is very dry and sandy, but it was/is formed by flash floods. Be sure to check the weather in any nearby (50 miles or so) uplands. If it rains there - floods will come through the canyon. They can kill you!
Just adding this for anyone who may not have a four wheel drive vehicle to get back to the canyon. My wife and I walked from the parking lot off of 89 and it turned into a 7.5 mile walk (to the canyon and back) in the loosest sand. It was very beautiful in peak a boo canyon and all, just putting this out there because based on reviews we thought it was a mile or so to the canyon.
We just hiked this a few weeks ago. We were visiting from Texas. So it was really cool seeing the video of the drive in, and through the canyon again. It made me reminisce from our vacation. Thanks for this!
We were there several years ago and bore the deep sand, but made it just fine. Short, but interesting. There were some small holes carved in the wall that showed up in these pics and not commented on so maybe you didn't notice them. Somehow poles were attached into them by the Indians that led up to some grain storage high up on the rock.
This slot canyon is not to be confused with the Peek-a-Boo Slot Canyon/Spooky Gulch that is near Escalante, Utah. Both are free, but the road to the Peek-a-boo with Spooky Gulch doesn't have deep sand and the slots are much narrower. There appears to be more color in the walls of Kanab's Peek-a-boo.
I think you missed the Peek a Boo Canyon itself. This looks like the one you come to first before you get to peek a boo. Spooky and Peek a Boo are more challenging and much longer. However, you did a nice job putting together this video.
There are two different slot canyons named Peek a Boo in Utah. The slots canyons you are referring to, Peek A Boo and Spooky are located outside of Escalante and are harder to get to. That is true. The canyon featured in this video is indeed in Kanab and has been reported accurately.
@tammy brooke just wondering if u made it up this trail in your rav4 with awd. I will be here in a few days with my jeep renegade trailhawk. If I have to I might just hike in from the parking lot.
Total awesome Dave like always my young friend. So beautiful and peaceful. Did you do any night Filming of the sky in the dark sky areas? Would love to see the footage if so. Maybe you could show this type of video, while telling any story's of your travels that didn't get into videos, like what keep you going, what moves you. Thank you for sharing your life. Take care.
Hi! thank you for this video and amaaazig spot! We are about to go to Kanab and I am trying to figure out how far this spot from Kanab is and how to find it, maybe you could give some advice how to find it! thanks again :) all the best
I'm forced to say that I was quite disappointed with this "peekaboo " slot that I visited 11/2021. I've been in many other slot canyons and didn't feel the time to drive down and back up was with the effort. Very short and when I was there it was populated with tour guide people. But your experience was different. Sorry to be negative about it but that's my two cents worth
@@DaveOnArrival Yes, it was exhausting (sunny and 80 degrees). A few people stopped along the way and asked if everything was ok and if I had enough water with me. On the way back I was picked up 1km from the parking lot.
Your own private slot canyon. That you put on a youtube channel. I hope nobody else ever goes there expecting to have solace or solitude. This is where frat guys get in fist fights because they're going the wrong way down the slot and there's no room to pass each other. True story.
Hi, awesome video, so you didn't get a guide or a permit to go in there? how many hours did it take you to hike the peakaboo canyon? some people say its 4 hours.
No guide or permit needed. The canyon is a pretty short hike and can be done in under an hour unless you're hiking from the road. Maybe they were talking about the peekaboo canyon near Escalante that takes 4 hours?
You're talking about the Peekaboo canyon near Escalante. This is the one near Kanab. I haven't been to dry fork trailhead so I can't tell you how much time you'll need.
@@DaveOnArrival I see that now. Actually, I think we may want to also stop at the one you were at near Kanab as well. To get to that, must we hike from Red Canyon Slot trailhead just off of highway 89 or can we drive (with an awd vehicle) back closer to the slot?

Yeah, it's way more than a mile. I hope you and your wife packed enough water to stay hydrated.
Definitely adding this to my Utah List. I love visiting places that are off the beaten path.
There are plenty of those in Utah
From what I understand, there is a secondary trail head that non 4 wheel drive vehicles can access. Then hike through the sand to this trail head.
Where is the 2nd trailhead? I don’t have a 4x4.
Thanks. I hope we find it tomorrow and see this miracle.
Wow, great footage and a beautiful spot! Excellent job putting together an interesting adventure.
Thank you!

Thanks for watching 😀 I like to reminisce too
Oh wow. You're right. It looks really similar. Thanks for sharing this
You're welcome
wow.. so cool... what a beautiful adventure trip.. thumbs up for great background music :) ..
Thank you. I like the music too
I'm going on Thurs. ! I'm excited ! Amanda
Have fun!
Going today!! Can't wait!!
Have fun!
Not you be confused with Peek a Boo canyon in Escalante, Utah down Hole in the Rock road, which sees much more traffic.
Yes, absolutely. This is not the Escalante Peek-a-boo canyon.
Thanks! I was wondering how you were able to drive to the trailhead.
I'm so lucky to live close by to these beautiful scenery. It's just only in my backyard lol.
That's amazing.

I was not aware of that fact. Wow
Great video, it’s like I was there!
Almost like that, yeah

Nice, next time I’m in Utah I gotta find that place.
It's really awesome
We love Kanab!! 😘 Great video!!
Just posted a video on my visit to Peekaboo slot Canyon last week. This is an amazing place.
Were you able to drive all the way to the entrance of Picaboo Slot Canyon or was there some hiking involved to get there? Thanks!
We drove all the way to the entrance.

This place looks majestic!
I have a question. Is my Toyota RV4 good for that road?
If it is 4 wheel drive then it should be good
@@DaveOnArrival My RAV4 is an AWD. Is that okay?

Unfortunately, we were too busy to do night photography there, though that eod have been cool. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll keep that in mind.

It's about 10 miles north of the city. Best thing to do is get a map from the Kanab Visitor's Center

I was there 3 weeks ago, I had no high clearance 4 wheeldrive car, so I walked the first 4 km in deep sand . This was hard.😁
Oy. I'll bet it was tough

How long did the whole trip in the canyon take you? What time did you go?
You can walk to the end of the canyon and back in 1 hour. We went early morning

How long is the hike?
From the start of the canyon, maybe 15 minutes 1 way if you don't stop to take a bunch of photos
How much time would you recommend here? Like from the time we park at dry fork trailhead, how much total time do we need?

It would be a long and tiring hike from the highway. If your AWD can handle deep sand you should try to park close to the canyon entrance
Hey do you have the coordinates for this location?? Would this be the one they offer in Kanab as a tour???
I don't have the coordinates. If there is a tour out of Kanab for peek-a-boo canyon it is most likely for this one.
Peekaboo vs Wire Pass ??
what will you suggest ... and what will be a good time of the day ??
Peekaboo is quality. Wire Pass is quantity. I like Peekaboo better.
Best to go early morning.
Ugh I'm here but we are leaving tomorrow! Wish I knew about this cuz our Antelope tour was cancelled 😭
Now you know for next time 😉
No. Not even close to Antelope Canyon in color forms sense of enclosure, or length.
wwwwwww wow! it's pretty awesome
Definitely
Not as beautiful as antelope canyon but still pretty
lol you took the 20% scenic way. next time hit up a local. you missed out on a LOT of things...
I'll bet
You get what you paid for..... It does not have the magic of Antelope Canyon for a reason.
