These caves are from a mining operation in the area, but they're still pretty cool!

There's also a few in the United States I think one in Missouri or Kansas that was converted into office space and is used by the movie industry to store their film in climate controlled vaults and government agencies use it for secure storage of things like IRS records
It is a very dry environment because the water table is so low
The nuclear storage in Yakima mountain is also another example where they did this type of mining and use the mine for a new purpose
I think in the coming decades in places where the water table is low year-round that digging down 10 stories into the ground and building housing and office space underground will be the norm because we've run out of space above ground
I've had a dream of building a seven-story building on a hill where three stories would be above ground at the highest point and there would be four stories below ground with the one side on the lowest point of the Hill exposed with Windows on that side so I would have a lot of living space but the footprint of the building would be no bigger than a normal house and you wouldn't see the true scale unless you were on the side where the drop off is that nobody would see because of the terrain and that way not have an eyesore for The neighbors
I imagined building a level at the second level that would be the garage and below that would be mechanical and electrical
I imagined using the poured concrete forms just like are used to build government buildings and parking structures

Please my friend, in the future, check your use of words like "weird" to describe "pipes" used for mining infrastructure unless you want to reveal yourself as knowing very little about where you are. Jus sayin'.

This is where they mined Kanab "Wonderstone". The original owners kept it a secret for decades and no one but the family knew where it was. The sandstone looked like ocean waves or landscape pictures. They would have pieces from the size of marbles up to giant massive smooth slabs.I have dozens of pieces including 2 clocks, picture frames, round spheres sanded smooth, fridge magnets, bags of raw pieces, and many pieces I've wire wrapped into pendants. The last time I drove thru Kanab was in Oct of 2013 and the family had sold the mine, but the store was still open for business. It's an absolutely stunning type of sandstone!
That reminds me of a guy I encountered running a gas station in Georgetown, CO. He had some very sturdy shelves around the store with limestone slabs onto which he'd painted prehistoric/Ice Age fauna. Said the tourists bought them to take home. Actually, it was a clever gimmick and they looked quite good. Stay safe.

A few minutes into this, seeing the beautiful scenery, an old song from my childhood in the '40s, "Don't Fence Me In," popped into my mind. Like most boy-kids in those days, I was Cowboy Crazy, my passion fed by the weekly trips to a nearby Big City that had three movie theaters, one of which showed a new(ish) Western every Friday through Sunday. Our heros were Roy rogers, Gene Autry, Johnny Mack Brown, "Wild" Bill Elliott... And then there was scenery like this---except in black and white. Stay safe, everyone.
Amazing scenery! I appreciate that you tend to avoid the busy touristy areas and explore the more remote locales. The abandoned and forgotten roads less travelled make for the most interesting explorations. It's always a pleasure to tag along with you. Thanks and keep it coming!
I lived here in Utah my whole life 43 years and I'll tell you what that right there is really beautiful when the sun sets...
Old cars were often used for flood and erosion control in ditches. Common out west on Route 66. Great job again Chris

My ancestors on my dad's side are from Kanab. Such beautiful land in Southern Utah. Watch out for snakes!

I grew up in Utah. Moved when I was 26. Haven't really been back in close to 10 years, but before reading anything in the description, I knew right away that you were in Utah! I could almost smell the fresh desert air while watching this. It made me a bit home sick. Great video!
The cars in that ravine were probably not the result of accidents, I believe they were intended to stop further erosion.
That "Executive" Car is a Pontiac. The front seat looks to be in better shape that most of it's siblings who spent their lives on their tires.
Utah is awesome, scenery wise.
They would throw old cars in the ravines to slow the erosion during the flash floods happening during the monsoon season. You will find it in alot of rural areas in Utah
Does that actually work? They could plant sand dune retention grass instead and actually restore the landscape instead of turning it into an open auto landfill.

Those “weird little holes” are probably old holes drilled out to take dynamite and blast out the rock , clear it and drill more holes , blast , clear , drill ...and so on.
That was my first thought. Much easier there than when Charlie Crocker's Chinese workers cut tunnels through the granite of the Sierras for the Central Pacific RR , back in the 1860s. They were lucky to make a foot a day, using black powder, the later, nitroglycerin they made nearby. That end of the Transcontinental Railroad owes a lot to the Chinese. That sandstone must cut like "buttah." Stay safe.

That was awesome. The old cars made me think of Manson and family, they would steal cars and strip them of parts and leave them abandoned, some are still there where they lived. Thanks for the adventure!!!

Judging by the headrests in the Pontiac Executive it would be about a 1969 or 70 model as I think that was the last year for the Executive.

The caves were so interesting, and the colors of the land were so vivid. The caves were mines, but they were still something to see, cause the traffic was getting heavy there. Good job, see you later.
Hi, Chris, that is some beautiful scenery in suothern Utah. In a way it looks like Arizona. I saw a lot of similar cliff dwellings and other beautiful rock formations in the National Parks, which were not very crowded in January (2018), when I was there. God Bless and stay safe.

Some of the cars could be from Flash Floods at some point.
These are mining operations in sandstone. More than likely looking for Silver. Another place you might want to explore that is an old silver ghost town would be Silver reef Utah were they also mind silver is sandstone pretty cool place.

Gotta be careful about slickrock. It's easier to climb up (because you can lean into the rock), but sometimes very difficult to get back down.
And if you want a *lot* of dust in your camera, go down to Monument Valley. (I would suggest you keep the camera in a paper bag (static electricity on plastic will attract the dust) until you want to shoot something...)
Reminds me of a video I just watch, that showed an underground facility (in use today) that had the same type of pillars, rooms ect. This was build, not wind made--hello--maybe it could have been a huge giant at once?? Thanks & safe travels.

That first shallow cave is a ''Shelter Cave'' . Notice the soot embedded in the Sandstone from all of the campfires . That Shelter Cave has been in use for Thousands of Years .
the one car on its top is a 69 pontiac executive which was the mid package on there full size. the other looked to be a 64 or 65 skylark but i couldnt get a good look. if i was close id haul those home.
You can see the vein of something that I bet they were mining.

With space becoming rare now due to overpopulation, going underground is the way to go.
A lot of people in NV, Las Vegas, they have been building underground since the 40s.
