  • Today Danny is replacing our 5 strand barb wire with woven wire fencing. Time to add to the infrastructure. Too many stray dogs and wild animals are coming onto the property. Good fences make good neighbors.

My mother told me to" buy at least five acres, put in corner post while the survey markers are still there.
Put up hog tight fencing to keep my animalls in and stray animals and wandering people out.
Build your house right in the middle so people can't snoop into your business." Still good advice.

The problem we have is people dumping animals, mostly cats and dogs. Then they chase after out animals because their hungry and then we have to dispose of them. It's sad, it's not the animals fault, but I can't let them kill all my animals.

I respect the fact that you put a fence up instead of either killing the dog, or fighting with the neighbors. Sometimes we do what we feel is right by the Lord, and forgiving your neighbor is part of the plan. Animal control, if you still have one, or the police, should deal with the dog. God bless.

Lovely job at fencing. It looks so easy to do, in a short video. But in reality, it probably took several weeks to organise, to get to this point! I'm sorry about your neighbour's dogs. For the most part, we have wonderful neighbours. Even when their animals get out and cause damage, they personally make amends, so their neighbours aren't out of pocket. It's always that one person, who moves to the area however, who thinks wide open spaces means their animals are free to roam wherever they want. I feel your pain.
While a bullet might be swift, it also creates tensions in a neighbourhood. The effected parties, start to think payback and then everyone's animals are on the line. I almost ate a poisonous bait as a toddler, that was thrown into our yard, to kill our dog. A particular person in the neighbourhood, decided they would personally sort out the barking dogs, by killing all of them in the neighbourhood. Our dog died and several others. If my mother didn't see me, with a strange piece of bread in my hand, I could have died too. So I understand why you may wish to take responsibility for protecting your animals, rather than creating a feeling of hostility and nervousness in the neighbourhood. It's a shame, not everyone feels the same responsibility is owed their neighbours.

My husband and I are in the process of clearing up old fencing on our some of our 20 boundary lines on our 20 acres to put up new fencing as well because of the neighbors and their dogs. Had a neighbors pitbull come on our property and killed one of our 5 year old Nigerian Dwarf Bucks a couple of months ago. This dehorned goat was in it's fenced in yard on our property and yet it was pulled through the cattle fence by this dog and had it's throat and faced ripped apart. I love dogs and don't want to have to kill someone else's pet, HOWEVER we have to protect our livestock and family. For people who live in the country, don't think your dog has the right to roam without harm. If you love your dog, keep it on your property where it is safe from harm. We have the right to end your dogs life when they come on our property.

    • @tracischeelk29
      @tracischeelk29 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That is a HORRIFIC story. I'm hoping you don't have young children, only because it would make it even more unbearable. I hope the dog lost its' life. How DARE the owners let their pitbull run loose. Really, any dog with few exceptions - trained to stay where they belong with no chance of harming, destroying, or entering other's property.
I'm very sorry that happened to your goat. What did the neighbor say and do? I can imagine. I've met plenty of disrespectful and outright rude and mean owners of dogs, especially the untrained defense dogs, barking incesantly.
There are MANY people on the internet and youtube that talk about the measures they have to go through to put an end to loose and dangerous dogs and for barking dogs. It's a HUGE problem. I wonder what their parents were like. My father would reach down from heaven if I did that to my neighbors.

We had a new neighbor that is not even connected to our land that came to the door and asked if the no trespassing sign down in the hollow behind our house was ours. He then mentioned one of the tree stands in the center of our property! He said he was "scouting around' looking for turkey hunting places -- on our land. It's the city folks who buy a little vacation property and believe all of the land around them is available for their use that are the biggest problem around us.

It's a shame you're having to put up a new fence. You, Wanda & that tractor sure make it look easy! Are you going to have to put up woven wire around the whole parameter?

Kim Jacks Yes we are going to have to fence the whole 10 acres. Thanks

Danny, I feel your pain. Had the exact same thing happen here. Spent the last few years installing fence. Unfortunately the dog pays for the owners ignorance. Good dogs get into trouble when not attended.

Seems I’m not the only one having problems with irresponsible/inconsiderate neighbors not keeping their animals on their own property.
Our neighbors have two dogs that they just let go wherever they want. Roaming free 24/7. One is a husky that looks part wolf… and he’s actually the nicer of the two. His buddy’s a real a-hole of a creature. Looked me dead in the eye in my own yard and hiked his leg up to whiz all on my house. Was letting me know this was his territory. Then he growled at me and strolled off. What a jerk.
It’s bad enough stepping off my porch into a steaming pile of dog turds and having these wretches pee on my sapling fruit trees and in my garden… but when they go after and kill my chickens and harass my animals ON MY PROPERTY… grr.
Don’t get me wrong. I love dogs. Just not these two. Their turds are huge and they pinch them off as close to the house as possible. They like to leave a heaping steamer there like 5 minutes before I come out the door to go to work because they want me to smell it real good.
So anyway. I’ll be the adult and spend my time and money on putting fencing up- both to keep my animals on my own land, and to keep other animals off. (Has cost me $10,000 so far with the insane cost of lumber and metals and I’m nowhere near done yet!)
For a second I considered that a bullet costs less than a dollar… and the fencing has cost me several months income. Buuut it’s not the dog’s fault and I’m just not that kind of person.
I am glad I was able to let out all my complaining there. It has been built up for some time. I feel better now.
    Thanks for the video!

Thank you for this video, those clips just frustrated me so much yesterday. Gonna give it another try this morning. The one I tried last evening just gave up and purchased some wire they were inside my caged garden. Will be installing cattle panels today hopefully this will work since I have more room to move around.

First of all, people who dump their animals in rural areas are just signing a death warrant to the poor creatures. These dumpers are cruel and have disregard for animals and farm families. Just plain bad people. My neighbor will not secure his dogs. They are often ran over. Also these dogs develope very bad habits of destruction while my neighbor says often its cruel to tether his dogs. And there goes another one killed through his idiotic thinking, flattened in the road. And this neighbor lives for the day when he can shoot or run over dumped and feral cats. What a hypocrite. He claims cats kill wildlife and chickens while all the time his dog/ s run free killing his neighbors livestock. How do you deal with this often drunkin neighbor. Outspoken and threatening bullying out raging view points. I feel bad for the animals. He's also the gossip and gathers info to use against each of my neighbors ...mostly untrue lies so to befriend them in thinking maybe some kind of control, he's everyone's friend. Not so once you catch on to his game. Fences make good neighbors. Respect for one another and calm peace knowing your farm animals are protected. The last dog he had was killed on the road, I mentioned to him ...isn't it better to tether or fence in his dogs to him ...reply he just get another dog, takes in the dumped dogs often. Insane!

Just shoot them if they return. Neighbors need to learn how to properly live out in the country. I know as dog lovers it's hard to think of shooting them, but those dogs will pester your animals, and maybe even kill some. I learned the HARD way to not just shoot at and chase dogs off, when they returned and chased 2 of my Thoroughbreds through 2 sets of fences, our wood fence and the neighbor's barbed, and caused my broodmare to lose her foal she was carrying, and my racer pictured in the icon to the left to be so injured he missed an entire year of racing.

I have a quick question. What happens when you tighten the fence, put in the clips and get the fence secured to the t-post and release the tightener, the fence comes somewhat loose? I'm having that problem at the moment putting in horse fencing. Thanks!

Great video. Good info. Quick question. On your corner posts. Is there a reason to have the support post going horizontal opposed to at a 45 degree angle. I have seen it both ways. Just curious if there is a particular reason. Thanks again for all the info. I hope you are feeling better.

If you go horizontal with a wood brace, then you need a diagonal wire to keep everything square.
