i agree. I do electrical work with the airforce, so im not full blown lineman. but ive done high voltage and people complain non stop when their power is out, but we never get recognized.

Glad you pointed out the main breaker cut off for the linemen. People don't realize transformers work two ways and that little generator can send some his voltage back into the system... to the detriment of those electrical workers
Good to mention that code requires an interlock kit that doesn't let you turn the generator breaker on when the main breaker is on, as well as a cord that isn't a suicide cord... should probably add a new generator inlet box since you repurposed the old one and a proper interlock!
Just throwing this out there, you either have a flashing light or an arc on your bus's batteries. at 5:31 when you show the bus you can see something flashng inside the battery compartment.
That beeping is your front parking sensors when the water is pushing against them. You can see in the video that your dash has the icon up showing the front sensors are red
@@agentcrm my car if you turn them off then they're off entirely. Of course he might have had a short circuit or other faults but I was just relaying what he said.
As a jman electrician I came here to say to get a proper hookup to back feed your panel from your generator. The cord with 2 male ends is called a suicide cord, and can cause injury or damage should the house end come undone. You can get gen plugs that you would swap that 50a out for, and it's a male end, then you just use a normal cord with a female end. Stay safe!
It warms my heart to hear to talk about your grandmother and check on her so much. I don’t have any left and seeing kids these days eating out with grandparents with their faces glued to devices makes me sick.
Hey Taylor, after watching you work on every single thing in your workshop, it was so good to see you did not incur any damage! That is really awesome! I lost power for 10 days in South Carolina. You never realize how much you depend on power until it goes away. However, when the power came back on it was such a good feeling. Trying not to take it for granted from here forward. Again, great to see you came out of the storm ok! Awesome! Awesome! Take care friend.
Tampa here. Just got power about an hour ago. Good to see you and your property are ok. Glad Josue and granny are good as well. Looking forward to the RX7 and more jet boating! Enough jibber jabber, lets get back to work!
So glad to see a video come out today that you were ok. Was seeing everyone else reporting that they were okay but Taylor wasn’t checking in yet, started to get worried. lol
man you got lucky. so glad youre alright. one thing ive learned over the last few years as these disasters get worse; we gotta help each other, no one is coming to save us.
You should get the M12 shears for chopping up that small stuff. Way easier to run when cutting the stuff around 1" diameter and smaller. I live in a wooded area too and I love mine
If you like rock crawling go see Matt’s Off Road Recovery in Hurricane, UT. He’s super cool and a good teacher. It would be interesting to see you bring a car and take him drifting too. IMO it would be a super cool collab.
Glad you guys faired well. I got a crawler project of my own. We do a lot of that down here in SoCal. I jot a jeep Cherokee that has no more left to the body just fully tuned. Has a stroked 4.7L straight 6. Can’t wait to get it on the trails.

Super happy to hear you all are okay. Almost all my favorite TH-camrs are in Florida. I learned something during Helene about my generator set up. My 12,000 watt genny does fine. It runs the whole house and garage. Heat, air, three fridges and two freezers. Fine. During Helene, it died. I started it back up and it was struggling hard and died in a few seconds. Like a dead short somewhere. Turned off the breakers and fired it up and it ran fine. Started turning on breakers in the house until everything was on and it was fine. Started turning on breakers in the garage until the air compressor kicked on and the genny died. Must have a slow air leak somewhere. But anywho... the air compressor is too much. New genny routine starts with killing the main breaker and step two is kill the air compressor breaker. I also use a suicide cord btw. My genny plugs into my welder plug. I have to preach at the kids... never ever ever plug the cord into the genny until after it's plugged into the garage. Those three prongs on that cord will kill you if the genny is running. I always mean to wire up a proper generator plug but never get around to it. Probably never will. lol
Your place survived the storm better then Cleetus and JH who did. After you cleaned up the limbs and leaves you can't tell your place had a hurricane hit you. That is a good thing.
Perhaps next time you could use the bus to cover up the doors of your workshop, and perhaps install a outlet to the outside so you could use the generator on the bus and connect it to either your house or workshop. A backup for your small generator
He said that in the video. He needs to get the bus generator running so he can have a big gen with a large fuel supply, and he wants to add batter banks and solar to bus.
If you feel If you might get flooding conditions again the idea for the front door or any doors the visiting is a good idea but instead of blocks use a few contractors garbage bags and put about 10 gallons of water in them and put them directly in front of the door you will not get intrusion through the doors
Glad you didn't get hit hard. Yes there is some correlation between knocking all the trees down and storm damage. There is a reason farmers plant tree rows on the sides of their fields. Yes getting the bus generator going quickly, even without the battery bank it would be a big help. Even an external diesel generator that you could plumb in during an emergency is a good idea.
Good to see you "weathered" the storm fairly well and you took steps to protect your property. That said, I hope you have gotten enough insurance to cover all the new acquisitions.
Glad you and your family and friends oh and neighbors did well in the storm. Yes the lineman do great work. We got rain and wind in Jax and was not bad. I am thankful
Glad to hear that the hurricane didn’t affect you much other than the power loss Ain’t gonna lie…..I was worried about you since you didn’t post in s few days A fellow Floridian
As someone who lives in a tornado prone state, big open flat areas are definitely breeding grounds for them. The more you can break up the wind and slow down the speed it can spin up the vetter off you are. Those big flat treeless developments dont do a whole lot to slow that rotation down. Thats why hilly or mountainous areas dont get them very often.
im so glad you guys came out of this one in good shape this last one was to far south for me to get a lot of wind but when helene came through we got hit hard a tree fell on the house i rent ripping off the end of the master bedroom i tried to get renters insurance a few years back and no one would insure this house as a renter my landlord also didn't have insurance and is talking all crazy about us having a place to go but i don't have that kinda money to just up and move my family of 8 so i don't know where we go from here
Good job kid, nice u help granny. Oh, and thanks for showing me Florida is not on my move to list. I get enough rain here in Oregon without the nasty winds u get.
glad youre safe, love the clean up content, i enjoy watching the mower/trailer put work in ! never thought the mower would work out as good as it is, impressive!
I'm 50 mile south of you in Port Charlotte, was a scary storm. I had some leftover sheets of 20' long metal roofing panels from the re-roofing project in the last hurricane IAN. I made window shutters from them & covered my windows. We made out okay, I did the same clean up routine as you after the storm.
Speaking on the house generator, if you havent looked into a whole home generator that runs off natural gas, do it. My parents have a 30kw generator that runs off city tapped natural gas so they only lost power when they had to shut it off and check the oil. They paid 12k for it back in like 2005 and let me tell you it has paid for itself 10 fold. Obviously now prices are different but theyre still not that expensive for the piece of mind you get for when power does go out for an extended period of time.
I bought a generator after my friends were without power for days after an ice storm ripped the pole off their house. Then we had a wind storm that broke 3 miles of poles off that left us without power for 3 days. It was well worth it to be able to plug in the fridge, freezers and air conditioner. Call me old, but my next storm related purchase might be a wood chipper. Dealing with all the sticks that come down in a storm gets tiring real fast. Mulch them and put them to use.
Great to see that you did not get any major damage. You should consider putting solar on your shop and or house, prices on solar have come down and it would make for some really good videos!

well, now is a great time for you to think on a solar upgrades on the shop and house and a few batteries for at least 2 days(seen some folks reusing some toyota ones from the EV's and that's cool and possibly cheap!), but I'm glad you're safe and got minimal to no damage besides a few branches.
