    "That razor look dull to me Miss. Ceelie." LMAO that razor was so sharp ole Mista wouldn't have even felt his throat being cut and by the look on Ceelie's face, she was about to slit him from ear to ear.

    This entire scene was just so chilling. The music really just amplified every bit of it.
    Celie had enough. And Shug knew it. Watching the scene with the tribal music just added to the overwhelming sense of dread like: Shit, Shug, run FASTER!

    • @Jadensamma
      @Jadensamma 7 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Tim Serpell Because she knew about Mister's long history of abusing Celie. All the beating, the intimidation, hiding the letters. She knew that Celie had about reached the end of her limit with it all and then when the kids said she was getting ready to shave him, she connected the dots and knew that if she didn't get there to stop her, she was GOING to kill him.

    • @obiwanthewiseass
      @obiwanthewiseass 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Jadensamma Seeing the red on her nails was also a clue on it. You could say God made her see that fact, Albert was just knocking on the devil's door for all these years yet he was too stupid to see that and he was just about to him as well had Shug not been there. Then he proved to be more stupid after she held another sharp object at his neck when he continues to insult her, this man was just asking for her to kill him. You keep kicking an animal long enough eventually it's going to attack

      Very interesting how a privileged white man (elite) can so clearly tell a story from our past. I know it's not a true story, but many lives in that time were just like that. Talk to grandparents and elders. I know Alice Walker wrote the novel, but his directing skills were awesome in 85. I'd like to see him do something similar now.

      @Chairman Lmao I stand corrected. My point is that he isn't black or poor nor did his life have any similarities to having to live like this. Still, he got it spot on. That is a true talent, to be able to tell the story of another culture so vividly without experiencing the hardships of it.

      After reading the letters, this is how Celie envisioned what was happening with her children. In the actual book, the children were much older and that was Adam and Tashi getting married. To Celie, they were her babies, and she could not imagine them as adults, so she likened it to how it must be to shave someone when they received their tribal scars.

Although you've never met her, a piece of her is still active in you.

    you know, I've always favored this scene simply because #1 Celie was so getting tired of Mister's physical and mental abuse and 2. Albert took her sister away from Celie! So much so, that Celie finally found her strength and inner potential to break away from Mister and to be free at last!

      I noticed that too for three reasons:
      1. During the majority of the film, she is like a possession just having things done to her such as being raped by her father and husband, treated like a maid/slave/nanny by her husband. She does not feel like she has any self worth and is quick to believe the names that her husband calls her, making her feel like that is just her life and she has to accept it.
      2. When Mister hit her in the opening of this scene (the most important in the movie), it brought up all of the mistreatment she had to deal with her whole life and at that moment, she decided to assert herself. She decided to kill Mister as an act of taking back her freedom and her womanhood. That tribal scene was to emphasise the effect of the possible savagery that may happen if she decides to slit Mister’s throat.
      3. Celie is finally able to be seen even though she is standing next to Shug who is such a polarising figure. In other words, she now has her own identity.

    • @fiversrevenge
      @fiversrevenge 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If only she found it when she and Shug found the letters.
      Why didn't she write back to her?
      Why didn't Celie steal Mister's stash of cash and leave him sooner?
      Why didn't Celie just leave with Nettie when she got booted off Mister's property?
      SOOOOO..... many plot holes!!!!

    ***I REMEMBER WHEN THIS FILM CAME OUT, AFRICAN AMERICAN MEN SCREAMED DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER BECAUSE THIS FILM UNVEILED HOW BLACK MEN WERE TREATING BLACK WOMEN BACK THEN. BUT MY BELOVED GRANDMA WAS BORN IN 1930s AND TOLD IT EXACTLY HOW IT WAS. SHE SAID, ' THIS MOVIE CAPTURED EXACTLY HOW IT WAS. BLACK MEN TREATED THEIR WOMEN JUST LIKE THAT AND REMEMBER . I WAS A TINY GIRL. I WAS BORN IN 1934 . I SAW IT ALL. THEY TREATED (TORE DOWN)THEIR BLACK WOMEN THE WAY THE white man TREATED THEM. '' THIS FILM DEPICTS THE TRUTH. EVEN HOW CELIE WAS RAPED BY STEPDAD AND SOLD HER BABIES AND NOBODY TOLD NOR HELPED HER. MY GRANDMOTHER WITNESSED THOSE DAYS. IT'S REAL TALK TO RESPECTFUL OLDER PEOPLE
    GET THEIR HISTORY OUT OF THEM. THEY ARE RUBIES, MORE ACCURATE THAN A HIS- STORY BOOK. THEY ARE PRICELESS AND DYING OUT. THE TRUTH IS GOING INTO THE EARTH WITH THEM. BURIED TREASURE.***
