this was very emotional if you consider the dynamic. Zoro the strongest crewmember is soundly defeated first, Nami said the same thing during the Arlong park arc "Luffy save me" while Sanji who always claims to only care about the female crewmembers tries to save brook and Usopp. brook the newest member risks his own life for a crew at this point barely knows, Usopp knows its hopeless but tries to fight an admiral instead of running showing off his true bravery. chopper who wants nothing but to be a doctor and save people becomes the monster he hates to protect the crew in desperation, Franky was desperate to get back to the ship that he cherishes and having Robin being the last crewmember left is a slap in the face for Luffy as he promised to protect her and is a call back to when Rob Lucci said that even if he's defeated Luffy isn't strong enough to protect her forever.
Keep in mind brook at this point in the story was with the straw hats for only 2 weeks and the fact that he still tried to protect his mates like that just makes me smile.
wojtek1212q chopper desperation made his bit so much more heartbreaking , using a drug that makes him loses all consciousness just to try save the remainder of the crew who is still yet to take its fate just gets me . His only friends are “dying” one by one and he had to take a risk in order to protect the ones who took him in as a friend and a crew mate
We're all feeling bad for the crew but can you imagine how Kuma felt doing that?He is a revolutionary...a kind hearted person it must've felt so horrible for him to send them one by one as they begged him to stop
He was saving them; if it hadn't been for Kuma Luffy and his crew, they would have died by now.. either in the summit war ark or simply entering the New World because they were far too weak.
In addition, I'm convinced he did it on purpose. He could of told them he's saving them but he wanted to show Luffy that he needs to strengthen himself before taking on such opponents, or acting irrationally, such as punching the celestial dragon knowing an admiral would arrive.
I bawled my eyes during this scene. I'm talking my chest felt tight and you can hear the desesperation in their voice without even reading the subtitles. It was such a hard scene especially toward the end when Luffy is kicking and punching the floor bc he knows he lost them completely (at that moment) this scene always makes me cry.
Damn this part hit me so hard when I first saw it. Luffy finally admitted he was to weak to protect his crew and desperately tries to tell everyone to scatter
Great scene. Kuma using the little humanity he had left to help Dragon's son and his crew while appearing to be the bad guy because he couldn't tell them what he was doing due to the admiral. All dressed up like a final battle and real defeat. He also sent each one to where they needed to be to get stronger. And then traded the last of his being to protect their ship. He's a real Straw Hat.
I wonder if Bonney would be the last Straw hats, she had connection with Kuma and is pretty compatible. if Kuma survive i think he'll go with the Revolutionary even though he's one of the perfect candidate for Straw hats
@@goldleaf054 I mean, we don't know when or how he beat his programming or the stage it was, even with the new pages at that point. He just couldn't. He found the opportunity when he did. And yeah, it serves the plot, but it isn't too weird.

I spoke neither English nor Japanese back then and relied on the German dub to enjoy OP, so this episode has always been even more gut wrenching to me because this was literally the end of One Piece, ending with everyone just dissolving into thin air...
Hearing Luffy cry out a retreat is heart wrenching…. This was the reason for G5…. This is why he had to beat Kaido. He has already seen defeat at the highest level…. And then Ace too… Luffy isn’t fueled by plot armor. Luffy is fueled by the will to never let such suffering hit anyone he cares about anymore

@@rpjoca4644it was probably the last time we saw kuma because he gave himself for the government and became a robot. Another reason for this is because he wanted Vegapunk to make a cure for his sick daughter which was Jewelry bonney but to do so, Vegapunk needed kuma for the pacifista project

This scene is so emotional but I feel for Kuma the most now that I know what he was going through in his last days of free will. It's amazing how he sent them all to islands he knew they would get stronger on and that would help the Straw hats as they helped him try to cure Bonney
It would be very interesting to see a version of this where Kuma didn’t betray Kizaru, and actually fought the Strawhats. Or even to see who Luffy would become if his crew actually had been killed. It’s crazy to think how far they’ve come, that even at this point, Kuma could easily beat all of them on his own, and now, almost every Strawhat could beat him.
I just realized that despite Luffy's strength and sometimes you don't know how serious he is , he has a good gauge whether they can defeat or not defeat the enemy.
What really made it sad is that the crew had been through so much and Luffys a great captain outside of being ass-headed sometimes(or an ass in other words),during that time he was instructing them to run rather than fight because he knew or could sense that it wouldn't go well. And to me,by the amount of stuff they've all been through together they are practically a family and Luffy thinks of them as such or something like that, his leadership style is pretty great since it's built on trust (and something else I can't remember) so they are all pretty close rather than being a crew where only selective people are close with each other and the others only know their names and nothing more. So to Luffy, losing his crew was like losing his family, and in his childhood he said being alone is worse than being hurt or something along that line, and it is true in most if not all cases cause if you're alone there's no one to rely on if you are feeling blue or make you see a reason to live or whatever if you already didn't have a reason,Luffy doesn't want to be alone which is understandable but he also feels responsible for the crew cause that's one of the many duties of a captain, plus they are like his family so losing not just one but all of them before his eyes is the equivalent of actually losing family and not being able to do anything about it since they all just went one by one,and instead of having the streotypical moment where the character just loses their marbles and goes beast mode he broke down,he isn't afraid to show vulnerability in any situation, cause even though most of us would've had the idea to just get back up and fight if we were in Luffys position,it most likely wouldn't go like that unless you have some sort of determination or strong will or something, cause you just lost the people you've loved so much and have been through a lot with right before your eyes one by one and you have no idea where they are now,and him blaming himself was heartbreaking,he does this again in Marine Ford or post Marine Ford or whatever episode/cheater ace dies in,he takes it as his responsiblity cause it's usually his job to protect those around him which is why he'll blame himself for being weak or saying he isn't strong enough,he bangs his head on the ground and all that stuff,it's pretty much a mental breakdown or something like that but I'm pretty sure he grows past this post time skip or there might be parts or scenes I'm forgetting since my memory ain't that good, but even though it hurt I guess it was apart of his development
