Great vid, just came across your channel. Mad! I'm an old boy and Audi were known as reliable motors back in the day. Sounds like you got this sorted with your engine safety program
Thank you very much for the kind words, they are still reliable, in stock form 😁 we are now reaching a time where turbos are far too capable in stock form and they can easily exceed the strength limitations of the engine itself!
Turbo technology has come a long long way, these faster spooling setups are risky business! I bet if this engine was using a turbo that had a slower spool we wouldn’t see half the issues we are seeing with them at the moment due to bad tuning.
@@InfinitPerformance damn, was close to pulling the trigger on a stage 1 FL. Will go with plan B and get a slightly older RS6 instead. So happy I came across this video - thank you 👍
Interesting watch , just shows that stock is enough for these motors anything more and they’re prone to some gremlins , I’m a B9.5 owner completely standard and performance is just perfect , if these owners want more then they need to look at alternatives
Cars are capable of producing more power, if done correctly. Many factors get neglected and don’t get taken into consideration when adjusting software, therefore causing failure.
RS3 is one of my dream car, I plan to grab one of these once i got rid of my old M series and GTI. I have survey through the local workshops, and yes many of them had blown engine even on stock form. :'(
I have a 2019 RS3 with 50k miles I just bought. I have been wanting this car for a very very long time. I just purchased the car 3 days ago and had it checked out by a performance shop that checked everything including compression which was good. All they said was there was a very little bit of oil on the spark plugs and a small oil leak in the back but nothing major. So I bought it. It is an IMS710hs RS3 with a UNI ECU /TCU non built motor tune currently on E85. It runs great! loud and fun, I don't push it too hard. I did however just watch your video. Especially just now purchasing this and I am not made of money. I wanted to ask how I can keep this car running and safe? What do I need to do for someone not just made of money? I want to have this car running strong for a long time. How can I protect the engine. I am in Miami, so I can't obviously come to you guys. Thanks so much for your time
Very ballsy. Any e85 tuned rs3 even on stock turbo are damn near the limits on stock motor. Everytime you do a pull roll into it and don’t go WOT until 3500-4000 rpm’s but I definitely recommend building that motor up with that bigger turbo.
Impressive knowledge on show, congrats on the video. Used to have an 8P RS3, Revo Stage 1 - 400 bhp was nice. Fantastic car, sadly missed but glad to have been there. Curious about the rolling road at the end, the rear o/s and front n/s wheels seemed to have minor flutter through the rev range. Probably nothing bit thought I'd mention.
The knock control system on the MK2 TTRS is not as weak, nor does the stock turbo make enough power that it overcomes the allowable peak cylinder pressure limits on that engine. What I would do though is have the injectors serviced, they are extremely common for injectors being stuck open/closed which causes the cylinder to go lean!
Great professional content and very informative as well. I was planning to buy a 2023 RS3 but… I’m really questioning it’s reliability, i might be switching to a 2023 M2 auto better.
@@fzr1000981 B58 legacy of oil consumption lol. What are you on about. I was in the scene of tuning the B58 since it came out and I almost never hear of oil issues whatsoever. Its a really well build, power capable monster of an engine.

3 blown engines & your asking why. I can only assume whoever is tuning them has no clue what they are doing. If it had of been left stock it would of still been running perfectly, that i guarantee. It always blows my mind all of these people "chipping" all of these types of vehicles with not a clue what they are doing. The fact is you have to be a very talented driver or have alot of motorsport mileage under your belt to drive one of these stock vehicles to its maximum potential, never mind a 500hp one. 99% of drivers do not fit into the "talented" category, so therefore are wasting there time & money in modifying there car. leave it stock, you will go faster for longer, that i guarantee.
What kind of safeguards do you have for injector failures? Are your safeguards any different than the unitronic software safeguards? Keep up the good work with the videos!
We have never lost an engine going lean in our 4 years of tuning them. Our engine safeties pick up failing injectors months before they actually fail and melt a piston.
@@InfinitPerformance that’s amazing. How does the software alert you of an issue with an injector or coil pack for instance? I’m contemplating switching over to your software.
@@davidrojas9633 we have had safety algorithms in place for 3 years now and we have not had a single engine failure since. When an injector, coil pack or spark plug is getting weak it notifies the driver by flashing the EML as the engine starts making heavy knock corrections. It also simultaneously switches you back to a safe map to protect the engine and will not let you switch out until you have the issue addressed. This is why we are able to offer 3 year warranties on every engine we build. We are also looking into offering warranties with our tunes on stock engines for the 8Y platform.

We have rods for this engine manufactured for us to our specifications, Infinit Performance connecting rods. Please drop us an email if this is something you are interested in purchasing.
The CZGB engines do not make anywhere near as much power as the DAZA/DNWA engine, so we do not see anywhere near as many failures on that engine. You can get away with bad tuning and poor maintenance on that engine. With the daza/dnwa, room for error is zilch.
How much is a stage 1 engine rebuild please I’m looking to buy a stage 2 ttrs and now I’m worried what happens if it fails. The car has been tuned by wrench studios so I would presume they know what there doing it terms of protecting the engine.
You've been lucky. My 8v RS3, stage 1 remap and 3k later, I had issues. I'll never get a car in warranty tuned again. Cost me a lot of money to sort out, as Audi wouldn't touch it. Lesson learned. The car is fast enough stock anyway.
What about if it logs misfires in 3 cylinders during the high idle cold start but when the revs come back down it runs smooth. New plugs, coil packs, good compression, a bit off with the leakdown
Habub Has anyone said ,you look like the guy out of of the Netflix series Punisher 😂. Mashallah, In cha Allah Allah gives you success & health ❤ wicked video alhamdullillah
Brilliant video currently have mk7R stage 2 Rtech brilliant car but been looking at a daza FL 8v rs3 that’s been tuned stage one by another well known audi vag tuner company can you add your protection onto the current tune or is it full new remap by yourselves thanks in advance
We do not alter anybody else’s calibrations. It would be a full new engine and gearbox tune by Infinit Performance to add safety algorithms to your ECU.
Aoon love your content pal , outstanding work looking forward to more , you went to school with my wee bro he always said you loved your cars , class ❤
I blew my RS3 engine twice, both times cylinder #3. When you touch E85, be very careful. Then, out of the blue, the transfer case and the rear diff were gone as well.
So, if i am understanding you correctly do many ECU remaps do away with the stock engines management ability to put the vehicle into "limp mode" upon detection of misfires, fuel issues etc ??
Pre facelift engines don't make anywhere near as as much power in stock form as the facelift engines, the material of the block is not relevant at these power levels. The material of the block only becomes a weakness when you re over 1200hp.
Interesting video to watch. Are you finding these engines are failing due to poor mapping which I know is a big thing now days, so many doing cheap flash maps. Or people pushing too hard on a standard engine.
The CEPA/CZGB engines are using an iron block, the material of the block is nothing to do with the strength of the engine, unless you are at a power level where you are cracking the cylinder walls (1200-1500hp) it is not the reason behind majority of the engine failures on this platform. The aluminium block engines are actually better for high horsepower applications as they have 6 bolt mains for crank support, which the iron block engine does not. The turbochargers are different and the facelift turbochargers are capable of a lot more power and spool way faster than the older engine/turbos ever could. This is one of the reason why we are seeing a lot more failures. With the old engine, you could get away with a lot as it didn’t make enough power on stock turbos in the first place and the spool was slower. So everyone could get away with poor tuning as the setup was a lot more forgiving. With the facelift engines, margin for error is extremely low which is why safeguards had to be put in place to monitor the engine management system constantly and notify the driver.
Nice Video i like it 🤩 i dont like that blown Rs3`s I got a Stage 2 Daza with Intercooler,Downpipe 2x200 cell cat, 5 inch open intake 530hp 680nm My safety is clean all 10 injectors every year and its good no shaking and other stuff after 10.000k km Oil change and DSG/Haldex/Transaxle change after 15.000km i wait for more content 💯👌 Greetings from Germany✌
It is worse on the DNWA engine. Is is even more sensitive to knock than the DAZA engine, combined with poor tuning as all the copycat tuners are applying DAZA ignition, fueling and boost settings onto the DNWA when it can’t take it as it is using a different exhaust camshaft.
RS Audis generally dreadfully driven, revved to hell with pops and bangs and fast in a straight line but rarely the corners. This garage seems top though and just the sort of mechanics you want to trust with your pride and joy.
The first RS3 with the misfiring kind of scared me a bit because last year my RS3 (also a daza running revo stg 2) had quite a bit of a misfiring episode from a cold start. The engine management light came on and it through up some messages on the dash and said to take it to a dealer. I got it booked in with the local diagnostics man for the next day, next day i started it up it was fine but the messages and EML were still there. I got it plugged in with the print out the main things standing out were P030000 random/multiple misfire detected, P030400 cyl 4 misfire detected & P130A00 hide cylinder passive. The all the faults were cleared, I went for a spirited drive and then it was plugged back in and all was clear. What's bugging me is sometimes when I start the car it can be a bit lumpy/misfiring for a few seconds even when it's not a cold start. I haven't got a clue why it does it.
Thats the classic injector dripping overnight which ends up sticking one day and boom.. Sometimes its carbon blocking the tiny holes on the injector or the seal has gone. What i always do in this scenario is just swap that injector for a new one. Good luck
@@davidobutt thanks for the info. Saw a video last night of an S3 completely different engine but the similar symptoms which turned out to be the cam position sensor(s)
@@samspencer922 yea could be that Also sometimes depending on oil quality the vvt oil control valve can stick causing similar issues but that usually happens when close to 100,000 miles.

Does this happen on stage one engines, i.e. just a basic remap to increase power 50 or so horsepower?
The blue car in the video is a stage 1 car, software only with no additional modifications.

Well, now you know you need a tune which has safeties built into it :)
@@InfinitPerformancewhat are safeties?
Top video bro looking forward to future content
Thank you, look forward to making more content!
Probably the best advice u can get for an rs3 owner. I would be nervous if I had 1 n this garage never tuned it
Don’t be nervous, pick a solid tuner that has safeties or datalog it regularly and stay ontop of the maintenance!
Thanks! 👍 Our rolling road is electronically linked front to rear so this is why you may see some variations between the two axles.
Is this also an issue on the earlier engines like in the mk2 TTRS? Thinking of getting one soon at stage 2
BMW doesn’t burn oil, Audi’s does burn heaps. Few of the people I know have RS3’s they all talk about it because it’s a problem
@Pawelmps um, wrong..my 2023 RS3 doesn't use *any* oil, the B58 by contrast has a legacy of oil consumption
The reliability of the 8Y RS3 on pump gas is excellent
@@fzr1000981 B58 legacy of oil consumption lol. What are you on about. I was in the scene of tuning the B58 since it came out and I almost never hear of oil issues whatsoever. Its a really well build, power capable monster of an engine.
@sheilamorrison1954 tons of plastic parts, plastic oil pump impeller, throw away engine after 150k
Not surprised by the blown engine. More surprised by the cam plate and the injectors and the bolts on how that “repair” was done. How sad. Not cheap repairs aside from the engine.
It was in a bad state.

Do you replace the block, or are the cylinder walls salvageable?
We can sleeve the block to save it!

Is this issue on the FL cars or the czgb engine too?
The CZGB engines do not make anywhere near as much power as the DAZA/DNWA engine, so we do not see anywhere near as many failures on that engine. You can get away with bad tuning and poor maintenance on that engine. With the daza/dnwa, room for error is zilch.

You've been lucky. My 8v RS3, stage 1 remap and 3k later, I had issues. I'll never get a car in warranty tuned again. Cost me a lot of money to sort out, as Audi wouldn't touch it. Lesson learned. The car is fast enough stock anyway.
@@mauricetoussaint7283 what wound up being the issue?
What about if it logs misfires in 3 cylinders during the high idle cold start but when the revs come back down it runs smooth. New plugs, coil packs, good compression, a bit off with the leakdown

So, if i am understanding you correctly do many ECU remaps do away with the stock engines management ability to put the vehicle into "limp mode" upon detection of misfires, fuel issues etc ??
Do you know if the 2014 Golf R also has these injector problems?
Thanks in advance
Pre facelift engines don't make anywhere near as as much power in stock form as the facelift engines, the material of the block is not relevant at these power levels. The material of the block only becomes a weakness when you re over 1200hp.
@@InfinitPerformancewhat are you on about there’s about 10bhp difference
Interesting video to watch. Are you finding these engines are failing due to poor mapping which I know is a big thing now days, so many doing cheap flash maps. Or people pushing too hard on a standard engine.
It is a combination of everything to be honest. This engine is not as forgiving as some engines that get away with poor maintenance and bad tuning.
I heard up untill a 15 plate the engines are made fro different materials is that right? After 15 plate is weaker
Yup they switched to MDF after 2015! 💀🤣
The cepa engine is a stronger engine. The daza not so good.
@@InfinitPerformance so you are telling me they 100% switched to MDF 👀🤣

@@InfinitPerformance wow that’s short life cycle for coil packs no?
Same issue for the opf aswell??
It is worse on the DNWA engine. Is is even more sensitive to knock than the DAZA engine, combined with poor tuning as all the copycat tuners are applying DAZA ignition, fueling and boost settings onto the DNWA when it can’t take it as it is using a different exhaust camshaft.
I wish Audi would bring the RS3 hachback to the US man that thing looks nice.

Good luck
