How to test 12V Battery with Multimeter

- You can start by checking the battery for cracks or bulging sides. If everything is fine, use a voltmeter or multimeter to check the battery voltage. A good battery should have a voltage of 12.5 volts or above. If you see a reading of less than 11.8 volts, the battery is weak and needs recharging or replacement.
Connect the multimeter to the positive and negative battery terminals. If you don't have a voltage of around 12.5 volts, you may have a bad battery.
Take an exact voltage reading with a multimeter, voltmeter, or battery tester to get an exact charge reading. You can also use a multimeter or voltmeter to test your battery.

The voltage of The battery really doesn't have much to do with the health of the battery you can have a battery showing a good 12 to 13 volts but it will supply no amperage this is a good way of seeing if a battery is charged but not to see the health of a battery

@@ils360 that’s one way! But you can also crank the engine an see if the battery drops below 10v. If it does battery is no good. 👍🏼

One requires a battery load tester to get accurate readings from a battery. A battery can show full charge but when under load the battery will not be able to perform (such as that with a car battery on a -25 Celcius winter morning).

Very sorry for the background music🙏🏼.It was replace after have a copyright issue before.
My new battery show 12.4 and after full race show 13.7 and my old battery is show 12.00 and after race show 14.2 but not working starter but all lights are very good
But on new battery when I use break my headlight down.. But in old battery not headlights not down
If your headlights dim while idling and brighten when accelerating, your battery isn't holding a charge anymore. In addition to checking your battery, have vehicle's charging system, your alternator, tested with a voltmeter to be sure that it won't be a problem.
I checked my 12 volt battery it showing 5.4

is dead battery like 10v instead of 12v can be work for other projects which needs voltage lower than or equal of 10v?or it’s completely dead thats mean nothing for use?
10V can be use but need to check current(A) also.If connect to 10V and lower current requirement, it should okay to use.

If the battery is not fully charged will multimeter still show 12 volt?
Multimeter will show 12V
A battery can show 12V and still be bad.
Battery should be tested under load.
