I wanted to do a thing where a Blue Dragon is the "Good Guy" not because they are nice but because they consider there land and the people of it to be there property and they protect what belongs to them.
Sounds like Greed from Full Metal Alchemist. I was thinking something kinda similar, but then again I tend to be predictable, you tell me A creature can only be good and I'll think about corrupting it. I hear about the great Demon lords and I imagine one who is actually sorta benevolent.
they attack
they protecc
they got their kingdom’s bacc
I was thinking of a thing where a blue dragon kidnaps a elf woman that sings him/her to sleep and after a century or so they end up caring for the elf woman as if it were their child and her their parent. I’d make a pretty interesting situation for adventurers to deal with.
holly clown I’d love to hear more about that concept omg
@@dest2118
As Shere Khan from Talespin would make a decent Blue Dragon. He desires only money and power. Unpresentable employees provide him with neither.
I am now stuck with the image of a Blue Dragon using a skeleton as a ventriloquist dummy and naming it Achmed the Dead Adventurer.
"Achmed was a funny man, quite the joker in life."
"Whaddya Mean 'IN LIFE'?! I'm still kicking you Dummy!"
"Ah Achmed. Whatever would I do without you?"
What is the first rule they teach a Rouge at trap-setting school?
Location, location, location!
Sir Corpse the second.
Up nect we have a halfling. . .ON A STICK
Yeah and the skeleton keep saying "I'll Keel you!"
One of the things I heard about blue dragons is they may not specifically care about destroying you, but they do care about having the power to do so if they wish and that you know the reason you live is that they allow it.
You exist because the dragon allows it, you die because the dragon demands it.
You might actually be able to converse with a blue dragon. Depending how you go about it. Red dragon will just roast you mid sentence.
@@earthobserver1007 Not if you act like a servant . They LOVE dominating things and dominating Adventurers is even BETTER. But yes they will ultimatly kill you.
MrLung1991 This is true, just much more difficult to deal with red dragon. I actually went on a few quests for a green dragon, until he decided our gifts were an insult. I was a minotaur fighter, wielding a greataxe. I had a magical 20% size increase. We had a sorcerer who was fighting off possession from a demonic artifact in our party, so it was interesting to say the least.
@@earthobserver1007 Should've gave it bitches
Blue dragons are actually remarkably good parents compared to all the other evil dragons and have been known to spoil them out of love, which also helps leads the wyrmlings into there later tyrannical inclination.
They are also surprisingly fair to there underlings paying them well and making sure the most useful ones don't die. Of all the most evil dragons they're the most redeemable since even at there most evil they can run a society and don't just want to destroy everything because its benefits no one.
Green dragons also care for their children very much
Hey How are you? But not exactly fair to underlings
REEEEE, it's their not there!
They're only lawful evil by a little bit then, and almost more lawful neutral.
to bad they dont marry
2:45 That hole in the in front of the eye in the skull isn't the "nostrils" of the dragon but a antorbital fenestra, basically a large sinus cavity. The hole that you point to at 3:04 would be the dragon's actual "nose hole", not a hole left by removing it's horn. A horn as large as the one possessed by a blue dragon would leave some underlying bony structure regardless of flesh removal.
In short, what you have there is probably not a picture of a blue dracolich, more likely a green, or if it is a blue the artist severely flubbed their draconic anatomy lesson.
Yeah that bothered me too
I'm glad you posted this so I didn't lol
Yeah those are my thoughts as well.
The depicted dracolich art is that of a white dracolich, if Im remembering right.
If you want to be friendly with a chromatic dragon, blues are your best bet (depending on its personality, of course. And it's age.)
Still not entirely advisable, but it would be the most likely to give you a chance to talk. Just remember to bring gifts. Lots of gifts. Flattery might work, too, grovel a bit. If it knows you know it can beat you easily it (might) be content with that (for the moment.)
Silver dragons if your Nutral or chaotic good
Best gift: a useful magic item heavily incorporating lapis and sapphires. They like valuable blue things.
You can bring booze and music to them or they just like the things that are useful for them?
@@Voldrim359There is one named blue dragon that absolutely loves music: Olothontor, the Minstrel Wyrm. He’s trying to find a female blue dragon that has a nice singing voice to be his mate, but he hasn’t had any luck yet.
The fact that they love their children so much makes me picture them as the kind of parents that brag about their child at every opportunity they get.
It's interesting that blue dragons like desserts when they don't camouflage... With the sand but they do with the sky which they fly around alot mind blown!
They don't use cheap tricks like camafalouge
@@lorekeeper685 Literally talked about being masters of illusions and illusion magics in the video.
SlowMotionSword he literally just said they don’t use “cheap tricks” like camouflage and I was pointing out that they are masters of illusion as stated in the videos. But if you wanna be a smart ass, depends on the time of day, the sky can be purple, red, orange, and plenty others such as white if there’s lots of particles in the atmosphere. I actually graduated with a meteorology degree so just let me know if you wanna be educated on the sky some more.
Also blue dragons have an excellent burrowing ability. They sometimes bury themselves up to there horns in the ground before attacking. Again they are master tacticians
@@liamsvoice6363 In the desert, without clouds and a blue sky you won't see a flying blue dragon until they land on you.
5e needs a draconic compendium that dives deeper into the lore (and maybe even give us stat blocks for the chromatic and metallic dragons that are not part of the main 10 types)
I really want some kind of dragonomicon supplement, hopefully with additional types like Steel, Orange, Gem Dragons, Epic Dragons (Force/Prismatic) as well as additional RP info and stat blocks for Wyrm,Great Wyrm, and something between Adult and Ancient (Like Senior, Aged, etc)
I would love that!! 5e big book of dragons
@@alexisross9343 D&D, but both the D's stand for Dragon. :P
@@1mealer Doubt we're gonna see the Force or Prismatic dragons ever again. 5E dropped epic levels like a rock, so you'd have to basically entirely change them to let them in. Besides that, I'm not sure they were canon to the Forgotten Realms, which is kinda the default setting now.
Although yes I would like to see how they could make them a little more reasonable.
We're getting just that this year in October.
Now I want to make a quest line where a mysterious man/woman (Actually a Blue Dragon) asks the PC's to get some mystical item or some such for him/her and it actually a present for his/her anniversary and not malicious whatsoever (though maybe it also is). Be really interesting to see how it plays out, especially if the PC's figure out it's actually a Blue Dragon!
Is it OK if I steal this
@@Rex9462 Of course it is! Have fun :)
Can blue dragons can take human form?
@@MG-yc6jr As far as I know, almost any dragon can.
@@ethanotoroculus1060 Metallic dragons can do it naturally. Chromatic dragons need to learn the polymorph spell, or have a servant that knows it.
Again furthering my beliefs that Blue Dragons are the Best.
Blue dragons are my favourite in the world of Krynn but in the D&D worlds blacks & purples are my favourite. Just because they are so outright nasty, manipulating little buggers.
@@julierose689 If you like manipulative little bastards, the one you should love is the Green Dragon. Those guys are described in the MM as suave, cunning, and manipulative, preferring to collect people over an actual hoard. It wouldn't be unlikely to encounter one with a very loyal High Elven butler and a Halfling bard to sing his praises, or even to have the green dragon serve as a kind of patron to a party of adventurers, all with the explicit purpose of slowly corrupting them as they do his bidding. One of my (I think) best ideas for a dragon-themed campaign begins with an ancient Green Dragon tracking down the party, confronting them, and offering his help in slaying a black dragon who settled nearby--the only alternative being him killing them all and finding someone else.

I'm giddy with anticipation for the silver dragon installment.
Silver have always been my favourite of the Metalics, although the copper dragon does hold a special place as well in the metallic category for simply fucking with its adversaries with pranks that are so annoying on a draconic level that the rival dragon would rather just leave the region than spend the time trying to catch and kill the copper lol.
Me too! I love silver dragons!!
The video is already up!
@@Dracobyte this was a 2 month old comment you replied to lol
@@Dracobyte I know! It was awesome!!!
White Dragons are my favorite of the chromatics, and I’d love to see you cover them. Once you finish the chromatic dragons, will you be covering the metallic dragons next, or something else?
Nightsmith Good old white dragons, in their crystalline ice caverns, maybe a few frost giant thralls nearby, ready to turn you into a humanoid-sicle. Or just tackle the wall/ceiling to drop a ridiculous number of frozen ice chunks onto your head.
Blue dragons will always be my favorite! Ever since first reading the Dragonlance novels, and learning about Skie (Khellendros). I absolutely adored his devotion to Kitiara!
You forgot to mention that many Blue Dragons also live along coast lines where much the same benefits that a desert gives. Otherwise good video
The dragon in hoard of the dragon queens intro didn't just get bored. The goal of the raid was to grab as many valuables as they could because of spoilers. The dragon backed off because it's goal was accomplished.
I knew someone was going to say this in the comments
Blue dragons.
The best chromatic dragon to encounter if you dont want to be screwd over instantly
It always fascinated me how incredibly lawful and civilized blue dragons are.
The Murghôm nation is a interesting thing where it's run by a council of dragon princes. It's actually led by a Aincent Blue dragon by the name of Skalnaeder. He's actually noted to be quite "enlightened" & kind to his Mulanian human citizens.
I love this series, but I think you forgot talk about their treasure preferences.
They like the zafires and the art pieces.
Carlo I going to guess you meant Sapphires
@@nevermore7285 that's what he said, just in Spanish. (at least i think so?)
Illusions, patience and a strategic mind in the desert . . . imagine someone like Patton or Rommel. As a dragon. That can cast Illusions. That's your enemy. In the desert no less.
Bah, you're not ready, not ready at all. Your mighty weapons are useless, if you can't reach him. Yes, but can you fly fast enough to catch him? Speaking of catching, how are you going to find him? Interesting, I assume you'll use the same against his illusions? Quite a few spells you intend to use every time he gets away. And without those spells against his illusions, well you have to rely on wit alone. As you've mistaken this for an oasis it's not looking too good on that front.
Zorzich! You sonnova bitch! I read your book!
7:46 so all blue dragons think their characters in jojo's bizarre adventure. Neat.
Vampire Blue Elder Wyrm?
"Swamps aren't that big."
American Deep South: Am I a joke to you?
Imagine how many black dragons live in Louisiana.
The Great American DnD Campaign!
Only the most hardy, rough and tough, better than the best of gunslinging cowboys can truly go into the deep southern swamps.
There are multiple small swamps around the south(the largest being the Okefenokee at 700 square miles) but even put together they would fit in the Sahara (3.5 million square miles), the Arabian desert(1 million square miles) or the Gobi(1/2 million square miles).
I actually have a character who's a blue dragon stuck in human form, and has created a kingdom for herself, despite being limited to a human body. While finding a way to return to her true form is her end goal, she has grown to love certain human foods (kinda like that scene where Wonder Woman tries ice-cream for the first time) and has adopted many cat and dogs. Normal blue dragons would see her as very strange, because she can go from, "I will kill your whole tribe and make you watch," to "Oh my gosh, look at this cute puppyyyyy!" fairly quickly. She's... she's a mess.
I remember being astounded by the brilliant tactics and siege methods of the blue dragons in the monster manual, and this video just gives them a whole new depth even beyond that. I may have to look for a copy of the Draconomicon for this kind of lore. I still want to add a blue dragon to a campaign who turns out to be a kind of protector and overlord over the desert, a selfish ruler but completely fair to those who don't upset him, and obsessed with maintaining a kind of social network with the desert peoples, including granting gifts of sorcerous magic to a band of zealous humanoid followers. Overall, not a bad guy, as long as you don't get on his bad side. Just as a way to shake up some older players at my table who automatically assume all colored dragons are evil.
Can't wait for the episode on the Green Dragon though. These are the ones I personally find most interesting with their described penchant for collecting and corrupting humanoid servants, not just to dominate them, but to make them serve willingly.
I imagine some metallic and chromatic dragon rejecting both bahamut and Tiamat, because they sick of the war between the metallic and chromatic dragons, moving to a dragon plan of existence after generations of breeding making a new breed of dragon called alloy dragons. Red/gold mix would be called twilight dragons, blue/bronze dragons would be called cyan dragons and black/silver dragon would be called dusk dragons.
Holy shit. This is brilliant
You mean Dawn not twilight rigth?
Some of the naming for those dragons doesn't make sense, and even though some DO go against their gods, they still maintain their personality and alignment, and will almost NEVER breed outside their race, ESPACIALLY with the opposing side, aka metallic to chromatic, or vise-versa.
@@zionthedragon8866 Hybrid dragons can't reproduce. Like mules.

I love your deep dives and lore videos as they give me so much more than I’d ever find on my own as new to DMing. I’m really looking forward to a video focusing on the brass dragons as I was recently inspired to have my bard/warlock’s patron be a brass dragon mascaraeding as devilish pitfiend (who is pretending to be a shop owner. It’s in my back pocket for the future when his neutral character wants to be good but thinks he’s made a huge mistake taking a single level of warlock, but behold his patron isn’t a devil after all, it’s a brass dragon that reversed a corrupted hex blade to keep him from an evil path while also getting constant conversation from a human they find extremely interesting. Keep it up and I look forward to your next dragon video!

I love your lore videos! I use so much of it in my home games. I actually have a player who has a vendetta against a white dragon coming up and i would love to hear any lore you could provide on them (:
I recently ran HotDQ and I enjoyed what they did with Lennithon in the Greennest encounter. He didn't so much "get bored" he simply didn't feel like dealing with a group of adventurers. In particular, it made sense to me because this Greennest sack wasn't his idea, he's just following orders, so he REALLY didn't feel like putting himself at risk for the benefit of someone else.
Something I'm working on. An island Lizard folks who mistaken a blue dragon for there God so they warship it pay it homage it lives in a dead volcano that is filled with water from the ocean through caverns party has to gain an artifact the dragon has for a quest. Think it would make for an interesting session or sessions.

Big Blues are my favorite! Can't beat lighting lol... I hope you cover copper dragons! They can be awesome in campaigns...
I believe I once read of a black dragon that lived on the elemental plane of water. Lived in a kelp forest in a giant derelict ship.
Great video! A lot of the extra details on my favorite chromatic dragon type!
We had an encounter with a blue dragon. It was pretty scary, that beast was very aggressive indeed. The beast chased us and it was seemingly inevitable. Till some expert poachers caught him alive. Them poachers are just very mean, that they even attacked us. They weren't just poachers, they were conquerors, murderers, notorious criminals. That even me and my fellow adventurers sorta feel sorry for the Blue Dragon that attacked us will be dead meat for them criminals. So the party and I did something highly unusual. Rescue the Dragon. It was hard, me and the adventurers are evenly matched with them notorious gang, but their numerosity was too great. They even recruited giants. But one of our members did sneak in first and freed the Dragon. So the Blue Dragon attacked our enemies and many died while the rest, retreated. Now they're powerless and resourceless. The Blue Dragon spoke to us and even told us that he'll spare us this time and he left.
Thank you for this video! It helped me figure out my bbeg motivation for my adventure!
may I hear about em if u don’t mind?
This Channel has Nerd/Geek levels unmatched in almost anything I've seen. I think I may be in love.

I absolutly *love* dragons and have been for many years, so I enjoy , hearing about them from you a lot!
But while watching this episode, I thought that it might also be interesting to hear you talk about different D&D-adventures or even entire campagnes. For exemple, you giving an overview of the story and then talking about what you liked about it and what you disliked and why; kind of what you did very shortly in this video.
Just wanted to make that suggestion, while it was still in my head.^^

Blues are my favorite of chromatic dragons as I saw them as most dangerous. Thank you for reaffirming my love for the devious creatures.
Gold or Silver next! Amazing video as always!
One thing I've never understood, or cared for, about blue dragons is how there is an entire aspect to them nobody talks about. Not even this deep dive video. Specifically; they favor rocky coastlines as well as deserts. It doesn't say that in any book I've found lately, but I distinctly remember reading long ago (possibly in a section about a DIFFERENT dragon entirely), that they sometimes come into conflict with other creatures over costal territories. This is because the sound of waves crashing against rocks reminds them of thunder, and they find it comforting. Don't believe me? The ONE reference to this I've been able to find in a long time is in the Dungeon Master's Guide for 5e, specifically the section of tables for monster types by environment. Blue dragons appear not only on the desert table, but also the coast table.
That hole that is supposedly the nose on the skeleton is actually the antorbital finestra. It’s a feature commonly found in dinosaurs to help lighten the weight of the skulls
So In other words killing a blue dragon can be a moral dilemma for an adventure who is a family man because both love their children more than anything in the world
Your vids are always awesome, useful, interesting.
Just by hearing them I know dragons in my campaign will be a lot more interesting, detailed and fun, thank you
This lore series really shows how much wotc dropped the ball with the monster manual
Nicolas Rochester 3.5 edition forever if you ask me, anything I like from 5th edition I can just modify for 3.5. Such as swarms being so relevant even at high levels.
The book would have to be several hundred pages longer if they had described every monster in this much detail. What we have now is more than enough, these are basically just fluff than the dm can choose to use.
Great rundown of Blue Dragon Lore
I’ve really been enjoying these videos. They’re giving me a lot of inspiration.

Red dragons dude, red dragons. Family behaviors and everything.
The 3.5 draconomicon has so much great lore omg! Also the courtship thing makes me think of the “even evil has loved ones” trope, which I’m weak as heck for.
Is that where all this comes from? I never heard him give a source, so I was super suspicious of most of what he said, particularly given the "not in the Monster Manual" "this official book by the creators gets their lore wrong" moments.
@@danniemiesse4643 The Draconomicon has a bunch of really in depth stuff about the dragons! I recognize the info, so yeah! I'm sure some old dragon magazine stuff it there too. :)

I greatly enjoy these lore videos! I would like if you could list some of your sources, perhaps in the descriptions? But man, keep up the good work!
For anyone wanting to look at where a lot of the lore is coming from, check out the D&D 3.5 book, the Draconomicon.
I did make a character named Sivilith who is a Lawful Neutral/Good Blue Dragon, while she dislikes intruders entering her lair or territory, she allows them to explain and will give them a chance to leave her territory if what they offer her is not good enough, like she doesn’t want to kill, but will if provoked or insulted. Her best friend was a Dragonborn named Dracuus who saved and helped her force a Red Dragon named Blelondru to flee from her territory when the Red tried to kill her for her golden treasures. Unfortunately Dracuus was killed by an Ash Giant, and when word got out, she did mourn, but before his death he gave her a priceless Sapphire that she treasures as a sign of his friendship and an unknown artifact that she vows to give to Dracuus’s son Draxiros and protect it from other travelers who try to steal it
Why are they so human with their social statuses. They are not good but they have that sense of like paternal respect. I like these ones

I love your videos, could you cite sources in the future? I wanna read more content!
I use the monster manual for 1st, 2nd and 3rd edition; including the Draconomicon from 3.5 e and the Draconomicon 2 from 4th edition.
while watching i begin to look up blue dragon lair and as i d ohe says "what are they like? and were do they live" love the videos very good lore
Hei Rhexx can you do a lore video explaining who are the strongest enemies in dnd (excluding gods or similar beings). Also a rundown of the strongest dragon race of all time?
That picture of the two dragon statues holding an egg together. That's an actual sculpture in my home town of Varna. The statue is called "Dragons in Love" and its located outside a swimming pool. Its a very cringe-worthy statue but if you're a tourist going to Bulgaria for some reason you can find it easily.
Just want to point out something, my friend DM from a 3.5 edition campaign pointed out about his coloring of a blue dragon.
You see they can dig/use sand as a form of ambush or action, but they are sandy colored on there bottom half, and the sky is blue (normally) and they are sky blue-ish on their top. Which is funny cause the bottom of them would be exposed to most creatures site. Flip this around to be sand colored on top and sky blue on bottom and its fixed. (now his coloring is camouflaged correctly).
I'd love for a future DnD edition to redesign dragons to be more fitting for their characteristics. Say for instance, blue dragons having larger wings and maybe smoother, more aerodynamic, or more avian features to cement them as the best flyers, or maybe bronze dragons, being the most adept swimmers, to have the manta ray style of wings that gold dragons do.
I'd love to see a hidden lore video about Liches.
I think I missed the part about a blue dragon's burrow speed and how they primarily hunt by ambush from below the sand or that most of their abilities are focused on cave or ground based combat, such as collapsing cavern ceilings and creating dust devils. Blue dragons are not known so much for patrolling the skies as striking from the sand.
I play a half silver dragon so I would love to hear about the silver dragon
The second tip on the dragon's horn is how I open my beer bottles.
my first ever campaign my party became the faithful servant of an adult Blue after discovering that the king we were previouslu serving was corrupted beyond belief. fun times.
