    I love the additional details in this video. The ullage rockets during staging are a nice touch. All the angles that you never see from the old film footage. It's going to be amazing when we get manned missions beyond LEO again with digital cameras, video, and HD resolutions.

    This is the best Apollo video ever its even better than the actual footage of the landings from Nasa. Fantastic graphics that the "Apollo 11 VR Experience" doesn't have. Its vary creative that you chose to make the Apollo 20 mission. I love the camera angles and the view points that shows different prospective during flight.

    Very nicely made! 🙂👍
    One minor detail, there are no billowing dust clouds in a vacuum. The descent engine exhaust gasses, and the moon dust, spread out in straight lines when the exhaust hits the moon.
    Interesting fact, the blown away moon dust could travel half way across the moon before settling down again because of the tremendous speed of the exhaust gasses.

    They should have done at least one more apollo moon mission, given that they had a fully functional CSM, LM, and Saturn V which were built for the original Apollo 15 'H' mission. They probably could not modify the spacecraft for another 'J' mission, but it was such a waste to not use those already-built spacecraft for one more mission. They're display pieces now.

    I sure hope that in this fictional event, Jim Lovell sits in it together with Frank Borman. How those two never made it to the surface of the moon is beyond me.

      With Lovell it was bad engineering. Apollo 13 had a tank that was accidentally dropped, misaligning the drainage tube. As the thermostat, designed to the specifications for in-flight power levels, was not compatible with the higher voltage used on the ground, an unorthodox method of draining the tank, using the heaters, was used. Problem was that the higher voltage was applied welded the thermostat shut and due to improper instrumentation, caused the tank to reach temperatures of about 1,000°C, destroying the Teflon insulation on the wires. Once filled with LOX and then when nearing the Moon, all was needed was a spark from the cryo stir, and the rest was history.
      As for Borman, it was mainly due to being away from his family. He was on the Cortright Commission that investigated the Apollo 1 fire, and served as the astronaut liaison between NASA and North America Aviation (CSM manufacturer). With that, plus the training of the original Apollo 9 "E" mission, which eventually became the Apollo 8 "C-Prime" mission, it can take a toll on somebody, especially when Apollo 8 could have either make or break the entire Apollo Program.
      Out of those that flown on Apollo, only a few astronauts were able to keep their marriages intact. All three of the Apollo 8 crew members are still married to this very day.

    I actually wrote an online alternate history novella called "The Tycho Calamity" about a fictitious Apollo 18 mission that follows exactly what this flight layout was! However, I did take liberty with the landing location, in that I had my LM touch down inside the crater rather than near its rim.

    • @rwboa22
      @rwboa22 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Félix Bachiller, the Surveyor visited by Apollo 12 was one of the "pathfinder" Surveyors; to see if the Moon's soil was hard enough to support the weight of a man, let alone the LM. Surveyor 7, like Lunar Orbiters 4 & 5, was a purely scientific mission, intended to study the Moon in the same manner the Viking landers did on Mars 10 years later (except look for signs of life).

    Nice video but I have a question. After LM extraction this video shows the CSM/LM stack continuing to lunar orbit 'backwards'? This would probably make sense as they would then need the SPS to be leading to enable them to fire it to drop into lunar orbit.
    However, I assumed (or have read) they performed another 180° turn so that the LM was leading (and they could see where they were going) and then turned around again to use the SPS to drop into lunar orbit.
    Which is correct? One way they fly blind to the moon, the other they burn up valuable fuel.

    • @rseferino1
      @rseferino1  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +thenovylen There's actually a trick on video. I made the mission "Orbiter 2010," I install AMSO in "Orbiter 2015" and copy the esenarios. The launch in 2015 gives an error in the separation of the stages, but the rest of the mission work without problems ... provided they do not eject any stage.
