It's a bit strange that the default extra life setting in the remaster is 3 lives; on the 2009 version I seem to recall that it was 20... Personally, I hope this game's sequel is going to get a remaster, too. Scarlet Symphony is fondly remembered by Touhou fans as being a good fangame, but everyone still agrees that Stranger's Requiem is the WAY better game. The primary reason I've recommend both games to people in the past is because having played the first one gives you a better appreciation for how much better the second game is. Not that the first one is bad, but it is to the Koumajou series what Devil May Cry 1 was to Devil May Cry 3.

Bought : Ender Lilies Quietus alongside... glad that one has more actionRPG stats, while this Scarlet Symphony is Richer-Lucard Symphony of the Night. Love it still ! But thanks for recommending "Stranger's Requiem" don't know that game.
I was looking forward to this so much. Now, I get cold feet, because no matter how much I love games like this I usually give up on boss somewhere along the line. It happened in Hollow Knight, Record of Lodoss War, Alwa's Legacy, Blasphemous among other. It will likely happen again in this game 🤣. Anyway, great review as always!
was hoping for more from this. great review. for me since its a re-release, and there are plenty of good metroidvanias these days. its just not worth 30 bucks with bosses like that. maybe 10 bucks
same, i still have hollow knight on xbox and playstation i never played much, and blasphemous on xbox, and vigil and 3000th duel on switch, and many more like castlevania adavnced collection on xbox AND playstation, and more like sundered and monster boy, and wonder boy and im sure im forgetting a few more. oh yea salt and sacrifice on playstion... AND MORE lol and i already 100%ed ender lilies on xbox AND playstation. i dont even think that game is $30 and definitely higher quality in every area from graphics, music, length, and probably replay value also 100%ed salt and samctuary on xbox and playstation and more! haha

I see you playing and I want so badly to use the up direction for the whip or diagonal. It just eats me up noticing we seem to not be able to do that like in Castlevania IV. Good review might pick it up

I honestly despise super punishing type gameplay tbh (looks at Mega man x , zero series and monster hunter world etc ) but I'm glad they have some difficulty options for newcomers
I'm not surprised if Frontier Aja charge you that much for their game, they are a small group of people that didn't use Indiegogo or Patreon, they also hired professional VAs for this game, they did the same thing for the sequel back in 2010
Un 7 es muy poca nota. Lo que pasa es que este juego se basa más en los castlevania clásicos que los Metroidvanias, y a mi me gusta que sea así. No todo tiene que ser un backtraking tedioso. Mínimo se lleva un 8. Es un juego del 2009, pero que se ha conservado de manera espectacular y su música no tiene nada que envidiarle a los mejores sountrack de castlevania. 7 no es una mala nota, pero yo considero que se lleva un 8.
I like how everybody say if you buy the game physically you can keep it FOREVER. Yes you can, but the cartridge will eventually degrade, and the switch won't accept it. It can be 20, 30 or 50 years from now, who knows .. I still prefer games physically because you can sell it if you don't like it, but I am really curious how long a switch cartridge will last.
I really like Record of Lodosss War, and was looking forward to this game, but after the review, I’m a bit disappointed, that gameplay just doesn’t feel right for the genre 😕
Jordan, if you play anoter touhou game, just a warning, they are generally for hardcore players. meaning, they are difficult. so dont hesitate to reduce the difficulty next time.
yea physical aint better for me when youre spending $30 for a game thats 3 hours or less. When ill get it on digital when it inevitably drops to 50% if not 75%+ off and can game share my digital copy with my nephew.
Looks like a very average 5/10 for me. I can understand a game being inspired by another game, but to blatently borrow elements from it and not even use them in a meaningful way is a hard pass.
@@sweet_sukeban4022 sadly doujin culture and ethics aren't really known outside japan, they just conflate doujin with indie.. especially with modern indie culture seems to emulate triple A work ethic/culture nowadays.
The main chara sprite looks so low res, she doesn't even have eyes while some enemies have some face detail. I'm glad I didn't buy this. That Record of Lodoss game was incredible.
