    Wages have not risen with inflation. The government and BoE worked really hard to suppress wages to control inflation, rather than trying to control prices to conquer inflation.
    People rightfully want an above-inflation wage rise so as to put is back where we should be. That's never going to happen, though.

    The result is elevated prices are here to stay but fortunately just growing slowly now. Ultimately we need to reverse the trend, raise taxes and raise the services we receive. Many news reports point to Austerity, the erosion of public services over 14 years and benefits hand in hand with the need to take out loans as taxes lowered.
    So tax more but also deliver more, those who do not pay tax are those who think they receive nothing for it. Taxes cuts disproportionately harm the poorest and middle classes as those are the ones who use state schools, state healthcare, state services - paid for by taxes. We should be concerned the best of us, the wealthiest, pay little tax, however, the best off barely use the state system so it is to be expected they will aim to dodge it or only give token sums, ultimately we need to accept the majority of people are the ones who need to pay for services as we are the ones who use it the most.

    • @SlowhandGreg
      @SlowhandGreg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      we already pay loads of taxes the money isn't the issue we need to rip out 50 years of trickle down Thatcherism out of the system, Brown slowed right down the inequality drift he didn't reverse it since Osborne the tax code has been butchered to favour the wealthy beyond recognition.

  • @grumblewoof4721
    @grumblewoof4721 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Great, but everyone fails to point out that inflation, however small in percentage terms, is still causing prices to rise. Pensions rose, of course, but only to try to match inflation. The tax allowance did not rise, so the government will take back in tax what they gave. Higher prices also mean more vat revenue for the government. The reality for many is that they are struggling, and every % of inflation is turning the thumb screws.

    The 20% rise in food prices over the last year, the rise in interest rates plus hiked mortgage rates, energy costs and just a general sense of malaise mean that a 0.3% drop in inflation will make no differences to the luck of the Tories.
