That second place looked insane.. we were drooling, and Danns face when he tried the beef (legend!) Thanks for sharing- great to see you 2 on video again 👍
Good video I enjoyed his review. I would love to see a phat thai one and yes I know it's so common but I have to tell we spent 2 month in thailand and I had some pretty bad pad Thai dishes (One in Krabi tasted like ketchup and it was mush) turned me off of the dish completely. I believe the noodles are supposed to be a little firmer and separate, most did not.
I NEED that beef khao soi in my life. 😍 Looks so much more "homey" and comforting, whilst the first place looks a bit too "sterile" for me. Could just be personal preference but l do love the humble street food experience as opposed to the Michelin stuff :)
I'm up for the Hann Khao Soi definitely. I know you said the Ong Tong one wasn't dumbed down for tourists, but I'm thinking you were being generous with that comment. Its always been my gripe with most Thai places in this neck of the US that the sauces are too thick, creamy and sweet. Not my cup of tea, although I might make some for others that way since that's what they're accustomed to. This was an enjoyable and instructive episode. Thanks, Gary.
Sounds like the second place would be more my cup of tea….to eat Khao Soy! Love the way you described the spices and flavors of the broth & meat! Dan was awesome and love the way he described the flavors as well. Thanks for sharing this video Gary😊
Khaosoi Beef, that's the one I would want. It's always great to see Dann Bangkok on your videos mate. He's such a nice guy and very knowledgeable in everything Thai 🙏. Second location is my choice , since they also include all the sides and spices 😋
Use to be that it was difficult to find good khao soi in Bangkok so we are lucky that good options are now more widely available. Ong Tong khao soi is definitely creamier than most, very unctuous. If you are used to less creamy khao soi, you may find Ong Tong not what you expect of the best khao soi. I once took a visitor new to Thailand to Ong Tong and her exact words were: "this change my life".
Hey gary i travelled to that restaurant (ONGtong) when i was in thailand in april, and had that exact dish. it was sensational and well worth the trip🤤
@gary yes I understand everyone has their preferences and for me I prefer the thicker richer creamier broth. I do like beef in my Khao soi like you. I feel like the type of broth I like just coats the noodles and beef better and just packs more flavor in. My opinion of course.
I've never had Khao Soi before. But I believe that it is a delicious northern food. Because I have seen video clips of eating Khao Soi many times. Which you will express with a feeling that is really delicious . If I have a chance to find Khao Soi to try ✌️ But in my Khon Kaen, there will be Khao Pun, an Isaan language that is used to call "Khanom Jeen" 😉
Yum yum, nice collab guys! I had the Hann Khao Lovers saved from a previous video you’ve made but you say you’ve never been there on this location… now I’m confused how I had it saved under your name 🤔😅
Some shops carelessly make Khao Soi with a shortage of spice or herb in the curry. The result is just like thin diluted Massaman. 👎👎😅 Luckily There's a good Khao Soi shop near my house so today.... 😉👍🤤
that's not their origin... this dish is Burmese traditional dish bro....thailand always copy neighbors' cultures and traditions...then act like their owns and advertise ...they always steal from Myanmar(burma) and Cambodia

Yeah it was so good mate
The beef is really good. But refer to Gary the Pork may be the best bet there.
@Dann Bangkok pork looked good, but beef in the soup looked better- for us.
@@britslivinginspain Beef is so juicy with the way the owner does it. Taste so good.
Just found your channel and have to say that your dish descriptions are great. I’ll be back in Bangkok in a few weeks so hope to see you about.
Hom Duan in Ekkamai is good too.
Thanks very much Gary !!! I checked out Ong Tong this week based on your advice and loved it !!!

I can do that for you no problem. The number one for me is here: th-cam.com/video/x1_IfEoQYBQ/w-d-xo.html there’s so many bad versions
Yes that would be awesome to watch ❤

Tried Khao Soi in March after watching one of your videos, it's now one of my favourites. Thanks, may just check out the 2nd place one day xxx
Channel is growing Gary!!!!

Definitely preferred the second one. I wouldn’t even say it’s for tourists, more for Bangkokians
@@theroamingcook I guess, but I know what I like, and what's just different.
I have tried Khao Soi in several different places and by far the best for me is in Chiang Rai which is the home of Khao Soi

Hi Gary have to try the Khao Soi Nuea looks delish . Which exit to take from the Saphan Kwai station . Thanks for sharing these gems . Much love !!
Enjoyed that - the beef and pork both looked proper!
Aaaaaaaah. When i was there watching the World Cup a few months ago.. we ate at Khao Soi Lam Duan, three times. 😘 So good to see different places.
Thought you would go to shop with all the old cars where you took us 😉 It all looks sooooo tasty. Thanks and keep up the good work 🙏🙏cheers
That’ll be in the 5 best Khao soi round up next week for sure 😀

Have you visited hom duan in ekkamai, I wonder how it compares against these 2?
I had Khao soi for the first time in Ponn in Terminal 21. Heaven in a bowl.

May find a father's missionary food station....( Long time ago but really old skool from when I remembered it.)

จะต้องไปแล้วละร้านนี้ ขอบคุณนะคะที่ให้รู้จักร้านอร่อย😋👍
Just watched, another great video mate and with Dan a native Thai 👍
You need some garlic chili oil, and some raw chili Thai pepper dip in shrimp paste on the side.
Please visit Khun Chariya Khattiyot in Chiang Mai and try her UK Master Chef award winning menu Wakyu meat Hung Lae curry. 🎉😊
I'm commenting mid videos, but the way Gary edited the video i think i know the winner 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
i am surprised you didn't try the beef soup and try telling her what was in it.
Didn’t wanna put the Chiang Mai soup makers out of business 😉

It’s closed down I think 😭

You should have sorted your differences with a good ol' fashion gun duel in front the restaurant. Just a suggestion

Probably my favourite dish in Thailand but sometimes think how would a thigh be in it rather than a drumstick
I like khao soi but it can be a little on the rich side....
Yes, definitely a treat once every few months for me these days
I tried dry Khao Soi at Ong Tong and it wasn't good. They shouldn't have come up with this dish
One of the worst dishes I’ve had
