This is an evening variant of the 240 that provides a fast ride from Randolph to Quincy -- and for the operator to return to Quincy Garage with the bus still being in revenue service.
There are seven of these special Quincy Express trips (beginning at either Holbrook/Randolph Station, Crawford Square, or Avon Square) on weekday evenings and only one trip from Crawford Square on Saturday afternoons. Regular trips of the 240 go to Ashmont Station in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston via Milton.
At Holbrook/Randolph Station, many trips of the 238 from Quincy Center change into the 240 to Ashmont - and vice-versa, but not all of them follow that pattern.
This bus came as the 240 from Ashmont and is now heading home to Quincy Garage.

what time during the day on Sundays does it leave Quincy center to go to Holbrook/Randolph station and the trip back? I'm Curious because I have family out that way so they asked me to find out.

The 240 never leaves from Quincy Center while in service. You can get on the 240 at Ashmont. From Quincy Center, you can take the 238, which also goes to Randolph.
