    Glad that I live in Vancouver BC where they have no plans to retire the trackless trolley system. So many cities have made the mistake of replacing trolleys with diesel buses (considered almost universally to be more expensive to operate than trolleys), which doesn't make sense with the latest transit trends to move to clean energy.

      @JoeyLovesTrains 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thankfully they’re replacing them (or I’m assuming at least judging by the MBTA’s recent purchase history) electric and hydrogen powered buses.

    This step of stoping trolleybuses is so incredibly stupid idea. Many EU cities re going back to trolleybuses for example Berlin, Prague thanks to dual battery mode which thay can have. If you search for in motion charging trolleybuses you ll see for yourself. They have plenty of advantages, mostly when wires already exist in that current city.

    How stupid of them to destroy it :(. I mean they could have rather invested the money to upgrades and expansions than starting from scratch with a completely new technology. Or if they had to they could have either sent battery buses to areas where there were no wires ultimately having way more electric lines or they could have attempted for a concept of trolleybuses equipped with additional batteries to reach farther as @Anton Novotný mentioned earlier. However I think this is not that widespread in US, but very common in Europe nowadays.

It was an absolute pleasure to enjoy this fantrip with other enthusiasts who will miss the fantastic infrastructure of the trackless trolley bus routes in Boston. I would be happy to ride the MBTA Green Line out to Somerville when the extension is completed.
    I got the chance to ride the new MBTA Orange Line cars as well during my weekend visit to Boston, and they are awesome! If possible, I would be happy to travel with you on a transit line or a station visit. It feels so awesome to be a transportation enthusiast.

    Quality content as usual but this one is rather melancholy given the circumstance.
    This whole thing seems incredibly short sited and just plain dumb. The new hybrid busses are going to cost more to make at $2 million a piece, cost more to maintain, and produce diesel emissions outside of the tunnels. Also if the issue is about deviations you could still use the catenary on a bus with batteries for when it's off corse. This is so dumb I wonder if someone at the MBTA is getting a kickback because you would think they would know better than this. Then again they run F40s under catenary on the NEC.
    The MBTA is run by idiots or are actively corrupt, perhaps both.

    Bad decisions are made by those who do not know the difference between direct suspension trolley wire and catenary. The trollocaust has been prosecuted for decades now.
    with the diesel bus as the final solution.
