Many years ago my great grandfather staked off a place in his yard, dug down about 10 feet with a backhoe, then put concrete blocks in it a door and steps that go to it and the most important thing he did was take a piece of sheet metal and put it on the top and place dirt back on top of it and also put a vent on the top and even ran electricity to at one point. Most of these commercial shelters have an important design weakness in that all it takes to trap occupants inside when a storm lands a tree or any other heavy objects on the door. Doors need to be vertical, sheltered, and even open inward to help prevent a blocked entrance.
@Brandi MacLaren You should be able to specify what you want. Most certainly avoid a door that opens upward. Think about what can land on it. All the stuff that blew away from other properties. Trees, limbs, trailers, kangaroos. :-)

Keep a couple of hydraulic jacks and a couple pieces of 4x4 or 6x6 in the shelter. There’s all sorts of ways that you could prepare for such a case, I know that I would.

I saw that, too. They should use galvanized metal similar to gate lock, if this door handle rusted and break, then people can't get in/out. Also, I wonder how they connect top half to bottom half, looks like they have two metal bars from the outside, the suction wind force will be strong.

Bro do they sell them at all Lowe's or can they deliver them to places that don't have them?
Good price. I ended up paying more and had to rent a skid steer to fix my back yard after Cyclone Shelter destroyed it...
Do you know if your Lowes still has these bunkers for sell? I can't find any Lowes that has them. I did find one listing using item# 581694 but didn't catch the location. However, a few minutes later I can't even find the one I originally found. I'm located in Fla, which isn't a big tornado hotspot(we do get a few), but we definitely get hurricanes so a shelter would be good thing. I like the design of yours. I'll post this on your installation video as well. Maybe someone has more info. I'll call Lowes but I don't have high expectations of the local store knowing much.
Curious if this is made in china like 99% of all (B)lowes products. Judging by the rust already forming around the base of the access door handle I can only assume that within a couple months the door itself will be unusable considering that the latch assembly will have rusted in place (see 1:30) You get whatcha pay for!
Wudd protect u from initial blasts weather etc yupp cool thing, needs a weighted blast door
Too bad we can't have them in Florida! The concrete is probably mixed with Styro media to make it light weight yet strong as beans! Sure wish I had one but if I dig down to 12 inches, I hit the water table!!!!!!
The ones I've been in, they always have water in them ;-)
That would be an awesome cellar. for for and wine beer liquor.
Just another Okie browsing for yet another tornado season 😂
Looks like the Lowe's in Claremore.
It’s much cheaper than I thought. Nice.
I don't need a storm shelter in Washington but it does look like an instant root cellar to me.
STORM SHELTER PEOPLE....STORM....THIS IS NOT A BUNKER...
Jeff Hussong
Always thought a bunker was along term shelter.
And larger.
Look up the definition of bunker hahahaha, yes we use ours as a storm shelter but by definition this is a bunker.
Definitely a storm Shelter.
Well, let's see... Concrete and dirt shield against radiation, as well as ballistic effects.
Yeah, it's a bunker.
Jerry E yeah guess you didn't see the outside air vent huh lol
A Dutch friend of mine used to love to say, if you're not dutch you're not much
Just subbed nice video been wanting one of the but about double or triple that one
jeff bragg thanks a lot, im so glad we got one.
I guess Florida’s Lowe’s don’t sell these. I wish they would sell like a safe closet or something to put into ur master closet.. or something to make it safer.
