      dazmane I wonder what people expected from this fight. I thought (well it makes sense to me) that a guy who has never boxed professionally or amateur going up against the best in in this generation wouldn't fare very well.
      I also don't get the 'us vs them' mentality. Why can't we enjoy both disciplines and appreciate the best in both.

      I think the mma gloves are the biggest reason he has no power in boxing, getting hit with those things are like getting hit bare-knuckle, they are built to do damage, very small and even the way they are shaped around the knuckle, also they don't have handwraps underneath so pretty much anyone can ko somebody wearing mma gloves, Imagine putting Wilder, Joshua, GGG, Canelo, garcia or Kovelev in those mma gloves, heads would be rolling

    The thing to remember here is that Conor thought he was a massive puncher and the look of disbelieve when Floyd took all his shots was priceless.
    Lets not forget he had deluded himself into thinking that Paulie was concussed, why? because he could not finish Paulie .
    I'm sure he his camp also helped this delusion by reassuring Conor that he was wearing 16oz gloves and that Paulie had headgear on . Make no mistakes Conor had probably stopped a few of is sparring partners such as Tiernan Bradley and probably gave Dashon Johnson a few headaches but the Paulie thing bothered him, that's why he was giving a bit of respect to Paulie about lasting the sparring session calling Paulie "tough"
    This fight was all about Conors ego and now it has been shattered we can only wait and see if Conor becomes a better man because of it or if this fight has destroyed one of his best assets (mentality/confidence)

      Conor was outclassed, if you honestly think he wasn't mate then there's little point in us continuing this debate, because it shows your lack of understanding of the game, Conor did well for his limited boxing ability, i was never one of those people who thought he'd not land a glove on floyd, i knew some of his attributes would give him success in patches of the fight, the fact he was the bigger man, had height and reach on floyd, his energy and unorthodox stance would need time to adjust to, and thats exactly what happened, but as soon as floyd made those adjustments, his far superior skills and cardio took over, if you honestly think conor would have won that fight on points should it have gone 12 i don't know what to say to you lad lol

  • @dantheman5607

    Reasons why Conor is a big puncher in mma : 1) 4oz gloves
    2) mma fighters take hits to the head less (don't full contact spar as often and train wrestling, BJJ, leg kicks etc)
    3)a lot of his opponents don't know how to defend and often run in head first e.g aldo and Alvarez

      glove weight doesn't increase power lolllll it just protects the hands the power is the same go watch scientific testing, all it is is the force concentration is more so its directed at a singular point which makes fighters fall easier but not hurt more lollll, mma fighters don't take less hits that point contradicts your 1st and 3rd point in itself, it should mean they have a better chin because they've taken less damage, its not hard to see that compare to boxers he has no power because he simply doesn't know how to transfer his bodyweight through all his shots and an opponent not knowing how to defend themselves doesn't mean hes a big puncher infact that's an argument against him being a big puncher, the truth is all mma fighters are not big punchers in comparison to boxers and that's a fact, boxers could destroy all mma fighters in stand up combat of any kind that doesn't involve kicking, grappeling or submission

      Agree, MMA fans say boxers don't stand a chance in MMA, but a guy like triple-G would be incredibly dangerous, he punches just as hard (maybe even harder) as an MMA heavyweight. yeah I dont think floyd showed any respect for McGregors power or technique, he spoke with respect, but the way he stood square on in his face and walked through his shots for the whole fight said something entirely different. It reminded me of the pawing little arm punches and casual jabs people like tyson fury throw, not that tyson cant put his weight behind a shot, hes just being awkward and farming points, keeping people off their game. But he didnt have the skill of tyson where hes outmaneuvering you, outboxing you, able to take it the 12 rounds without rly getting hit that much in order to cash in those scorecard punches at the end.

    • @RossKempOnYourMum01
      @RossKempOnYourMum01 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point. First couple of rounds when he was doing OK he reminded me of Fury as well. Good, fluid natural movement and reflexes, but unorthodox and weird, wrong for boxing - his height advantage was allowong him to slip a shot by just leaning away on pure reflexive raw instinct. Then he got tired and had absolutely no defence because he has no fundamentals

  • @beejj6190
    @beejj6190 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Even Conor's coach Kavanagh conceded DAYS ago that the padding *on the knuckle* of a 4oz MMA glove is negligable compared to a 8 oz glove (where the extra weight is mainly about leather elsewhere on the glove).
    MMA fighters also concede boxers hit harder due to the nature of the sport : i..e. 24 / 7 punching requirements only / better stance aiding better punch technique - alongside better hand protection.

    This makes me wonder AJ chances in ufc, since most heavyweights there predominantly box (cain, werdum excluded). All it would take is one shot from AJ. But this is just heavyweights, The guys in other divisions are way more skilled

    • @joejoyce9979
      @joejoyce9979 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agree but no-one would stand with him, they'd just take his legs straight away and AJ even said himself he'd get found out on the floor, strictly stand up though, joshua would ko the lot of them in 4oz gloves. Mayweather would be considered a monster puncher in mma because he clearly hits harder then conor and conor has like a 90% ko ratio in mma, so imagine someone with a 90% + ko ratio in boxing with those little mma mitts that are basically bareknuckle

      Dillian would do really well in MMA I think, he was a European level kickboxer, his stand up will be light years ahead of most of of the UFC's HW's, get some good take down defense behind him and he would likely make run at the title in no time, his trash talk, persona and the fact he's
      a Boxer at heart would sell fights

  • @fuckooo
    @fuckooo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    HA, I said this until I was blue in the face before the fight. Floyd was always the puncher going into this, why? Because McGregor does NOT have the technique. McGregor can 'strike' but this is not the same as punching in boxing, boxing punching is fully optimised for power, striking is not, as a result McGregor was throwing nothing but arm punches.

    Spot on Hatman. I always predicted that Floyd would win by stoppage because punching in a boxing ring is totally different to punching in MMA. I have to admit Conor really impressed me in the first few rounds, and fair play to him for starting so well in his FIRST EVER boxing match - against arguably the best boxer ever too. I do think that he gave Floyd a little trouble at times but when Floyd figured him out it was usual Floyd Mayweather...plus i think the fatigue on Conor's part did play a huge part in things...but yeah Floyd wasn't really hurt in there because Conor's punches in 8oz gloves are vastly different to his 4oz punches in MMA. Massive respect to Conor on his boxing debut to go 10 rounds with Floyd Mayweather tho!

  • @kiely4561
    @kiely4561 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think Conor does have power, the problem is he hasn't been schooled from a very young age in how to administer it from a boxing stance, he doesn't have that muscle memory that's developed over years and years, Striking in mma is very different because your throwing shots from a much further distance which Conor has done all his life so he knows how to get leverage on his shots from that range which generates the power he's shown in the octagon, and this is no disrespect to mma fighters but most of them have very limited ability when it comes to striking, no defence or lateral movement so landing flush on those guys is much easier

    • @ScarzChosenspokesmen
      @ScarzChosenspokesmen 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kiely 456 exactly. His size alone shows you he has power. He's simply not a boxer. Not been trained to perfect his punch

    • @kiely4561
      @kiely4561 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, and also lets not forget, he was fighting Floyd mayweather, who will probably go down in the history books as the greatest defensive fighter of all time, world elite boxers could barely land on him let alone an MMA fighter with limited ability, what i saw from conor looked fairly decent actually since he's never fought professionally in a ring before, he had a fairly decent jab, good movement and he's pretty accurate with his shot selection, he just needs to work on his cardio and pacing rounds better, if he did decide to stay in boxing and fight paulie i'd give him more than a realistic chance on winning, Paulie is nowhere near as quick or slick as he was, and even in his prime he got hit way to much,

    • @bigjdm5460
      @bigjdm5460 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kiely 456 the problem is why is a 170 plus pound guy fighting welterweights? Floyd and Paulie both started from lower classes. Paulie retired and has no power. Why is Conor not fighting Canelo? That would make a lot of money. The problem is Conor knows HE WOULD GET KILLED. So NO ..... he should just go back to UFC and complete his kinda weird legacy he traded for money. Can't blame him I guess

    The power that you have vs your ability to land are two separate things. Its like taking a badminton player and putting him up against Andy Murray, then saying he cant smash. It was his first fight, and boxing as a format is an olympic sport built for the long haul. Its not a punching contest where you land a free shot then your opponent does and the last man standing wins. I know we boxing fans are loyal to the sport keen to tout its superiority, but I don't think we should criticise.

      zGJungle ZG listen, don't sit up here and be a grown man crying about something that little, but true!!!! Golovkin is a good solid fighter no doubt about it.. But everything he does inside of the ring is slow period!!!! That's not a knock on him as in a bad way, it's just the reality of things point blank period!!!! He's a solid fighter yes, However, his movement is slow, he-triple G cuts off the ring in a slow posture while applying uncomfortable steady constant pressure.. Also, his footwork is slow, but he has solid balance & well timed positioning, so he rarely if ever gets reckless/sloppy or lunges in.. As well as having good punching power in the process!!!! Sorry, that's just who Golovkin is and how he fights.. Whether you like it or not.. You must want me to really sit here and give you false information to things you just wanna here!!!! As in, oh, triple G has quick hands, fast reflexes, impeccable head movement, great footwork, and extremely athletic!!!! Lol.. I'm sorry to hurt your feelings for not lying to you.. But just about 90/95% of everything he-Golovkin does is slow and for the most part his way of fighting!!! His style, his rhythm, & his pace!!!! Although being fast or having quick attributes is not TRIPLE G'S game.. He's still a solid champion and a good fighter.. So please, stop crying over something so dumb and learn to separate your sensitive side from social media.. & try not to get so caught up and emotionally attached to these fighters dude!!!!🤔💯

    A debut boxer just went 10 rounds with TBE. Mcgregor was counter punching Mayweather with ease early on and won 4 rounds. Mcgregor could easily transition into a boxer with more experience. Arm punches don't work as well because of the larger gloves. Easy adjustment to make is just to pace himself and pick his shots. The boxing community should give him respect.

  • @devonsinclair6994
    @devonsinclair6994 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Other than what u said hatman there is a couple more reasons why Mcregor's power don't translate over to boxing. In Mma you can't stand with your lead leg out so far like in boxing is because you get leg kicked or taken down with a single leg. So for this reason his stance is mma is not for generating the most amount of power. Other than the Jose Aldo fight all Mcregor's knockouts came againts grapplers who have terrible stand up skills even for mma standards. Mayweather kept saying Mcregor is undefeated in stand-up in mma but that was absolutely not true. In the first Diaz fight the exact same thing happened like in the Mayweather fight. Mcregor threw everything at Diaz but Diaz was able to weather the strorm and then in the second round he boxer Mcregor up. Diaz caught Mcregor with a beautiful jab cross with stunned Mcregor who then initiated the takedown to basically get choked out rather then get knocked out. He didn't have the option to tap out againts Mayweather and we see what happened.

    Conor didn't know how to put his weight behind his punches, he was throwing arm punches. He needs a good trainer, it reminded me of the punches Loma was throwing early on in the Salido fight, but I don't think he'll be back in boxing anytime soon. I wouldn't mind the Paulie fight, that would be a hyped fight. Conor was moving Floyd's body from the body shots, I think he could improve his power, power comes from timing and technique, I think Conor doesn't have those at world level, but he can be taught.

  • @SSJDovahkiinOfficial

    More proof to your point though was with that uppercut he landed on Floyd how it really didn't faze Floyd at all. Compare that to when Kell Brook who landed that shot on GGG and lifted him up a bit. Like a Conor vs someone his size like an Errol Spence or a Kell Brook would get killed.

  • @ChrisON3ill
    @ChrisON3ill 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd imagine the difference is being able to set up clean punches, 1 being mma fighters have a lesser boxing ability naturally than professional boxers, 2 being able to use other skills to create openings. Although yea he clearly doesnt have the same power as a canelo or ggg.

    McGregor was never a big puncher in mma terms either, in the UFC at least its only really Aldo that he knocked out with 1 punch. He then gave off one of his most quoted quotes, precision beats power, and timing beats speed. He knows himself that he isnt a 1 punch ko artist, but his striking, at least in MMA, is clean and precise and most guys cant live with it. Floyd was just far more precise, which although i hoped for different this result was always inevitable.

    I always thought Conor would have less power in boxing gloves as oppose to the ones in mma. One just needs to 'think' about it. Money just walked him down laughing. Imagine if Conor tried to punch harder. This guy would be gassed before round 1. Not made for boxing at all but good try. Hats of to Hatmanstrikesback. Always a logical thinker.

    I think a big factor when it comes to Fame and being the "best" in MMA compared to boxing, MMA a good streak is 4 wins, look at Mcgregor i believe hes on 2 or 3 loss out of 30 or so MMA fights? Boxers on the other hand have to go 30-0 just to get a title shot. Theres such a difference in skill between mid to top level boxers compared to mid to top level MMA fighters.
    I just googled it, Conors MMA record 21-3. Put that in boxing standards.

  • @soulveiw
    @soulveiw 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    He didn't really throw any power shots though, why I'm not sure. I thinks it's a mix of not getting his timing and range plus he obviously went in there to box NOT knock him out because I presume he knew he had to pace his self. If Nate Diaz says he's a big puncher then I'll take his word for it. Where he excels though is his placement, which we saw, he had no problem scoring points. Name a fighter in the UFC with a bad chin who hasn't been found out, just one? You telling me Anthony Johnson only knocks guys out due to the gloves?

    yh when mcgreogr counter punches guys that dont box they are really shocked because they dont see punches like that in boxing its different you have to have some pop on your punches cos people are used to whats coming and the bigger gloves u cant just touch people and sleep them effortlessly. and hatman i totaly agree imagine him against guys at 154 lmao he shouldnt think he can compete at a high level just because he countered floyd a few times with no power in the shots lol

    i wouldn't like a dig off him, but no, he has no power as far as elite pro boxers are concerned. He could probably ko a few low level journeymen but he wouldn't be able to hurt anyone in the top 20, bare in mind there was an exemption made that he could fight floyd in 8's, if he was fighting at middlewieght or junior middlewieght he would be wearing 10's which would decrease his power even more.

    I'd love to see Conor Mcgregor fight Triple-G in boxing. GGG ain't technically as sound as Floyd, but he's a hell of a lot bigger and punches a hell of a lot harder, He has a better chin and he's a better pressure fighter. If connor can be walked down by Floyd Mayweather who was half his size and twice his age, then GGG would have him pinned to the ropes in no time where he would unleash those monster power shots of which connor would of felt nothing like in his life, i give him 3 rounds if he runs, if he stands and fights he won't last one minute
