Wonderful video! I also love that after the fight, the title you're given is "Elpiphoros": Bearer of Hope. The Warrior of Light brought Hope to the Endsinger and so destroyed her despair.
Telo could also mean, an end, a finsh, a finality
Mania could mean deusion, a fantasy
so the final spammed raidwide
is literally the Endsinger's Final Fantasy.
Something I think is neat:
In the final fight of the first patch of Endwalker, we fight against Kakodaimon. Daimon being a spirit, usually referring to one who brings or provides something, and the prefix kako referring to evil or bad things in general. An ill spirit or bringer of sorrow.
And in the final patches of Endsinger, we face the Twelve, and their ultimate attack is Eudaimon Eorzea. The prefix “eu” instead referring to good things. It could be read as “Eorzea the bringer of happiness”.
So from kakaodaimon to eudaimon. Seems appropriate.
Great video! The 2nd phase of Emdsinger literally brought tears to my eyes when i realized that it WE were the final boss and the conflict flips on its head as the Endsinger must defeat our hope instead of us having to defeat her despair. Love it.
It's one of my favorite moments in the entire MMO
We're not trapped against her, she trapped against us!
@@Ailuromage I still think getting killed by redacted in the redacted of art is still good
One more thing is regarding the name "Meteion", it might be complete coincidence but I doubt cause it fits pretty well.
In greek the word for "something in vain" is "μάταιον" (pronounced mateon). I think it fits perfectly the lore of the character. I wander if the devs wanted to connect "meteor+mateion" with that name or they simply didnt want to...spoil the story for the few who would understand the meaning of it.
Who knew the production team put so much work into the fight design
Bravo 🙌
You could look into p12s's attacks, they are all "failed" theories and are quite interesting.
Not all of them, as there are also abilities that reference things like divine epithets of the goddess Athena, or abilities from Tactics. But there are a lot of the failed theory category.
Geocentrism. Missing Link. Caloric Theory. Pangenesis. Superchain Theory. And it ends with Ignorabimus, which is part of a phrase (ignoramus et ignorabimus) which means “we do not know and WILL NOT know.”
I really like everything about P12 and have thought about covering it 😸
I also like that when she literally rejects the world she could create mentally, she also cracks the world-shaped platform she made from the last Gaiaochos, literally rejecting the actual world she physically made.
one day the universe will be all frozen and dead. BUT NOT TODAY!
Maybe not
I love learning the connections of the moves we have, but hearing about the connections the enemies have is also awesome
I think my favourite part of Endwalker is how, while the msq proves that Meteion was philosophically wrong, Hildibrand of all things proves that Meteion was literally, practically wrong. Thw universe was not a dead, despairing thing. But she was made of dynamis, and each instance of her was ever made to know despair from the onset by Hermes, imparting his own despair onto her. On wings of despair, she could only find ever more despair. And when she could not reach any more planets, she erroneously concluded that she had completed her survey and explored every single planet. And the answer she delivered back to Hermes was the answer he always had in his heart. But this wasn't true. Pupu's race and the Mandervillians were a perfectly prosperous race of peoples who held within them far more hope than despair. But Meteion's song of despair exaggerated their despair and wiped them out.
Isn’t Hildibrand also a Warrior of Light as per the end of the ARR Hildibrand story? Therefore, the jolly inspector that always seeks justice and hope and to be an inspiration is literally the opposite of Meteion and could have ran circles around Meteion if there was a donut arena around her like with the Ozma battles.
Endsinger is my favourite boss in the whole FF series so I LOVE that you made this video. Thank you!
Glad you liked it! I love the story involved in the Final Day. It's such a fantastic way to end the expansion.
This game deeper than I thought !
Did you skip every cutscene?
@@elgatochurro i dont/havent/never played it.
@@sxbmissive ahh kk
Sorry but there's been players with weird questions and criticisms of the games story and it just feels like "I've skipped the story and now I'm not sure what's happening"
Arr was a base for the rest of this to EW, and technically even DT. There's so much story and symbolism used in the game that when people say bizarre things like "end singer came outta nowhere" it's like "did you... Just skip that entire arc that introduced her and what happened to her and how she was LITERALLY the issue that started almost everything?"
If you'd like id recommend the game highly, it's very sorry focus and a slow burn. Learning about many people's and cultures inside it and they try to link EVERYTHING to the story you'll experience.
@@elgatochurro fair enough, i enjoy watching it
So interesting ❤❤

fantastic video! I've been obsessed with endwalker and its usage of greek and buddhist/hindu terms and themes as soon as I heard "Akasha". In the raid series Athena uses "classical concepts" and shows us the classical forms/platonic solids but also crucially the quintessence, a concept of constituent building blocks of the universe and foundational to many world scientific philosophies and religions. the quintessence is essentially 5 elements: Fire, water, air, earth, and aether. however aether has already been named in ffxiv and in many rpgs is essentially synonymous with magical energies. it is also called Akasha or in Japanese buddism's Godai its called Void or Ku/Sora meaning Sky or Heaven.
these are THE quintessential elements. they're also obviously ALL OVER rpg's and fantasy stories and basically anything to do with magic because this concept has survived for so long. in the raid series we are clashing with this older system of thought and reason about how the world works and how we have developed past the ancients as we have the ancient greeks irl. And against Meteion we are also clashing against the ideals of ancients and how to view purpose, happiness, and all of teleology. Meteion asks us if we are entelechies like her. she who interprets the ultimate meaning of life as suffering and tries to break everyone free from the Samsara recognizing that suffering is a permanent facet of life. In the end we reject this on an infinite plane of void, an empty horizon of dynamis, potentiality, in Jainism some might call it Aloka a place beyond the Loka which holds the substances of change, motion and rest (Ultima Thule).
I really like the storytelling during the P12 fight as well. They really put a lot of work into each set piece in this game, so nothing just feels like generic fantasy fighting.
Well, this was a fascinating rabbit hole. I knew they did a lot of digging for interesting vocabulary. Now I'm even more blown away by the Endsinger fight.
love the explanations, idk why I always had trouble with philosophy in school, seeing that EW and the musing about life is my fav expansion so far ❤ your content is great btw!
I am excited to see a breakdown of Athena's fight mechanics and their meanings. I have cone to understand that they primarily refer to disproven scientific and philosophical theories.
There's a lot to Athena for sure. Part of the problem is that I have personally not done the savage version which has an array of things to talk about.
I'm unsure if it'd be boring with just no footage of the raid, or I'd have to ask someone if it's ok to use theirs 😹
Beautiful. Thank you for explaining everything. This fight is too hard for me to pay attention to how glorious it is. That feel when I a Black Mage am not content with just hurling a meteor upon my enemy and I want to hurl an entire planet instead!
I love the Endsinger so much. Even at the end, she comes to realize that she was wrong. That happiness lies not in oblivion, even if she cannot fathom where it’s from.
It's a very tragic life she was forced to live. Such fantastic writing for the Endwalker story.
Another great video and it was smart to point out the doom refefence!
Best video yet. I got Telos and Telomania from how they had the Telopharoi before (I also knew that prefix already) but the rest was very interesting and new to me! It really drives home how deep in pessimistic nihilism she is, and we're almost debating her as we fight, trying to convince her to switch to optimistic nihilism. If you haven't thought of it, perhaps go over Athena's use of disproven scientific theories as attacks?
I've been interested in Athena's concepts for a while, I may get to that sometime. And the Endsinger really does represent the complete opposite of the Scion's view of life. Really was a perfect final battle.
This was very educational
Highly enjoy etymology and your videos! Keep it coming!!
I am very interested for when you get around to Athena and her fight. Taking the Savage fight into account, her abilities as a boss are full of a bunch of interesting terms. References to Ultima and other foes from Tactics, divine epithets of the goddess Athena, and ancient disproven scientific hypotheses, among them.
I love your videos

LORE KITTY
Good stuff. if I may add in, elegeia has no mute E, it's pronounced eleghEHia
Planetes also has an audible EH as in planetEHs
And kakodaimon is slightly more complex as a concept, it's the inner ugliness, all that is is bad in us and we have to defeat it if we even wish to negate her thesis in the form of our dynamis limit break
Thanks! I'm much more familiar with Latin pronunciation when it comes to this sort of stuff so this is helpful. Usually I'll ask old professors but I think sometimes they mess up too 😹
@@Ailuromage eh, the effort is there and that's all that matters, I really like your stuff

Ooooohh new mage cat video!! I clicked so fast!!
fantastic video as always, keep it up :))
Another possible meaning for the Nemesis attack could be as a reference to the concept of the Nemesis Star (tying both to Greek philosophy terms as well as astronomy).
The Nemesis Star is a theory postulated in 1984 about a possible red dwarf star 1.5 light years away from our own star, and was at some point part of a binary system with the sun. Fittingly, the theory was devised to give a non-terrestrial reason to the seemingly regular pattern of a 26 million year time period between extinction events, much like the one Meteion is trying to achieve.
As to why the nemesis star would be the cause of these extinction events, it was presumed that the Nemesis star would be responsible for a larger than normal amount of comets in the path of earth (a la the star showers), and thus increasing the probability or regularity of impact events.
Current science does posit that there was at some point a nemesis companion star to the sun, but the estimated point of separation makes it being the cause of extinction events unlikely
Basically "Nemesis" is less related to "revenge" per se and more to "space-based apocalypses and meteors"
Hold on! Are u on tiktok? I swear I recognize this voice! Love your content!
I'm not on TikTok but I'm curious as to who you're talking about now 😸
