Yo need to move the shift lever over to the left AND engage the sport + button to engage full sport mode - An S will appear on the control screen with a number showing what gear you are in. If you only push the sport button - you are not fully engaging the transmission software.
Jus a little tip for those who didn't know. I own the X4 - and when you engage Sport by moving the shift lever over to the left along with using the sport + button - you get all the performance the car can offer.
I would choose the X4 simply for the weight distribution and handling balance. I might be a little biased as I build BMW X models at the Spartanburg plant! 🤪

Hi, My wife and I own the 2018 BMW X4 M40i and we love it. I bought it in October 2017, right before they announced the 2019 version. We have it fully loaded with the HUD, solid copper brown color. This was a great purchase. Wife has been a 3 car BMW owner, since 2006. Her first SUV. Other 2 cars were the 3 series. I love the new body style of the 2019. I would've waited on it but got a great deal on ours. Handling and design are great. Enjoy everyone!!

Took delivery of the X4 M40i the day before Thanksgiving, and traded in a Range Rover Evoque. The X4 is an incredible vehicle to drive, and compares very favorably with my 2011 M3 convertIble in the acceleration department. All in all, close to perfection, even though some find its lines a bit controversial.
I love the lines on this car. Gorgeous.. especially looking over the hood. 😍👌
i ordered my X4 M40i and can't wait to get him. I think from the look and power is the M40i the best Version for buying a 3 liter engine. I life in switzerland.

I have the X3 M40i and i was so disappointed that it didn’t come with an M steering wheel in North America yet the rest of the world gets it... And now the X4 M40i doesn’t get it either? How do I go about getting that wheel? I know it’s a small detail but BMW really should give all owners one considering every other country gets it.

Greatone999 you too man! that was my first choice but since i’m only keeping it for a couple years as a commuting car thought might as well get the whole shabang and trade it in for next gen when it releases

Have you actually sat in it? I was shocked how cheap some of the plastics looked on a X3/4 compared to a similar priced 5 Series.maybe it’s supposed to be baby buggy whipe down style.....
Went with the X3 M40i over all them. Liked the driving dynamics the best and it was very well equipped for $8k off the $66k sticker price. Since I was going for an SUV I also didn't want to lose out on the rear storage and headroom. Live in Atlanta, Georgia for reference.
I have one on order, I’ll be picking it up in about 3 weeks and I can’t wait. I chose this over a Porsche Macan, f-pace, Audi Q5S. Velar. I did not have the Volvo on my list as I really didn’t want a child carrier. Long Island New York.
Haven’t driven the X4 m40i but have driven X3 m40i, was impressed with its performance and overall package. I’ve previously owned an suv performance vehicle so I have something to compare it to. It’s that straight 6 cylinder engine the BMW uses, it’s too hard to describe how good it really is. The popularity of performance suv is on the rise in New Zealand and Australia , sure suv’s have been popular for a long time but I see a lot of SQ5 ,X5 M, X4, GLC 43 AMG and Macan’s getting around . My prediction for the X4 and more so the X3 M40i is that they will sell a lot of them down under as BMW are a big seller amongst middle class car buyers .

Just made my switch from 435i xDrive To the X4 30i. This is my first suv crossover ever and the first time I will not be driving a Manual transmission!!!!! Not sure what to expect
P.S. (rumors say) manuals are not on the new 3 series and probably being phased out of most car manufacturers e.g. Mercedes, Suburu etc... boooooo

As to the why, I kinda like the new X4 (I hated the first one, it felt like a cheap X6* knock off). The Volvo is not available here & I can't in good conscience pick a GLC without it being a 63!

Why won't they offer cooled seats and how come we didn't get the M steering wheel like the European version?
I have the first gen 2018 BMW x4m40i and test drove all the ones mentioned in the video. Mercedes glc43 came close. BMW won apparently can't wait for my lease to be over to get into the second gen version.

Great review. Its likely the X4 M40i trumps the Merc and both Volvo’s for driver appeal and would probably have my vote BUT my wife thought the XC60 is a lovely place to be. Says it all? X4 versus Macan S?

I don't know MM, the SQ5 offering from Audi seems compelling and starts at $54K. Sticking to your rules though, I'd probably get the GLC43. Recently went between an X5M and a GLE63 and found the Mercedes offering a whole lot more liveable when you don't want to be a hooligan, and sounds much better too. We bought the Mercedes. We also have an Audi and a Corvette in the house and we live in the Midwest. Great review!

I recently test drove this car and I liked it a lot. But the GLC 63 Coupe has a lot more power. Do you know if BMW has any plans of coming up with a M version to keep up with with AMG? I'm not in a big rush to get a suv now I can wait 3 or 4 months if they are coming out with a M version. Please let me know if you have other recommendations for me.
Yes, they are currently being tested. You can find videos of them/ pictures online look for "born in m town"
I like how BMW upate the whole interior. They are head to head to Audi and not behind them anymore.

Try the SQ5 before you buy. If it's just between the BMW and Mercedes my vote would be for the Merc. Take an example of each out on an extended drive and see what you like. Also if you have a family you should try and sit in the back while someone is driving to evaluate the comfort level.

Why is that most car reviewers review the highest specs and the most powerful engine, where only 10% of buyers can afford? Why not start to review the base model, where the majority of people can afford?

Gun to the head forced to buy a CUV/SUV, I would probably choose the Volvo so as not to suffer from the negative social credit you get as a BMW or Mercedes owner. I.e., avoid the automatic assumption that I'm a dick. That's actually worth something on the road and not just in your head.
Actually, I think a fair chunk of Lexus, Acura et al (and even Volvo) successes vs die Deutschen stems from the fact that they don't have "dick badges", which is appealing to a lot of folks.
And disclosure, I've owned and greatly enjoyed BMWs.

Had a 2018 glc43 suv for 6 months and what a waste of money!!! Had a 2018 amg gla45 Before that and traded it in for the glc but ended up wasting even more money. I swear I Will Never buy any other so called pretending performance vehicle ever. It’s like females wasting their money on buying high end purses that cost 10percent of what they are retailed for
Use of the term baby buggy is old and tiresome....I hate the dated interior it’s just not fresh. Even Acura looks like this now

The rear cargo opening of X4 looks like car trunk opening, not SUV. Makes no sense, Volvo XC60 much better cargo area
