    What was the purpose/usage of such recordings? Lounge music?

      I think 'industrial' here is meant literally, background for corporate/industry promo films & ads, etc.

      ​​​​ yep, my thought too, but why then create a vinyl out of it, instead of giving the "raw tapes" to such professional customer? Fewer transformations the better, sound quality-wise..

      my guess is the records would have been faster to skim through to hear the music you wanted to use, pay the library and use it from the vinyl, they wouldnt waste time and money messin with tapes
