Great times, great sport, fun fun fun.
Those of us that are old enough to have been there in person really relate to this stuff.
Wish I had a time machine.

0:34 and 2:19 Lagana's Twilight Zone top fuel on a budget, everyone else had eighteen wheelers they came on a ramp truck ...gotta love an underdog.

I remember (as a 10 year old) getting up early for some test n tune at Colton dragway on the Saturday before for the Winternationals . Then on the way from Colton to Pomona we sheared an axle hub on the trailer and sat on the side of the 10 fwy in Pomona for almost 8hrs. Finally got it fixed and we were lucky to make the show with only one Sunday morning pass. The first round we won but the diggers chute failed to open and ended up on the approach road to Bracket Field airport with too much frame damage to continue. My uncles spent all the time on the dragster and no time on the POS trailer.
But I would not trade those days for anything in the world. I still dream of owning a ramp truck after seeing them pass us when we were sitting there on the side of the road with a broken trailer

I remember as a kid "T.V. Tommy Ivo's" hauler with the two rails and the corvette on top at Fremont....

Great video with some classy haulers. Mostly professionals tho. Wasn't too many little guys in the day that could afford those set-ups. We were always driving ours, then beating them, and hoping they wouldn't break, so we could get home.
Love the twilight zone hauler, with the frt of the rail hanging over the cab. American ingenuity at its best. (LOL).

@32 seconds that's the Lagana's family top fueler, "Twilight Zone". Look close. This is modern day. The 18 wheeler rig behind Lagana is the Werner team, with Clay Milican driving. I raced IHRA during that time and watched them come in with their fueler strapped to the ramp truck, motor covered with plastic, parking between 18 wheeler rigs with million dollar sponsors. Bobby Lagana Jr. wanted to be the first top fueler to run 4 seconds off a ramp truck. He was. 2003 at Martin Michigan...making his ramp truck famous...

Yep. Remember the old Ed Roth stickers that came in bubble gum cards? All the guys had 'em on their notebooks at school, me included. :)

Some teams need 4 semi's nowadays. This was the time that if you didn't win you might not have enough money to eat.

Now we’ve got dull colored crew cabs and dull colored aluminum enclosed trailer transporting our cars. I with it was the 70’s. 😔
