Thanks for posting this. Manufacturers are loading cars up with a lot of useless - and dangerous! - electronics. I dread the day that I have to buy a new car. I know the technology would frustrate me to no end, but I think its reached the point that my wife could not cope.
My Crosstrek put the Brakes on as I was driving on a two-lane Highway because I was in the right lane, there was an exit and the car in front of me was taking the exit and he was out of the lane and on the exit ramp and when he slowed down! so did my car and I quickly had to hit the gas to get up to highway speed again. now I only use cruise control on the outer left lane. these sensors can get you into a lot of trouble quickly if you are not paying attention to what they can do. we all need to know what it is capable of doing and be on the lookout for these moments. this technology should be used with the utmost care. LEARN WHEN TO AND WHEN NOT TO USE IT.
I have a '21 Crosstrek Sport. I always drive it in sport's mode and with the auto off-on off. I get 33 mpg. consistently. Consumer Reports did a study on pre-collision breaking and found that it worked properly 70% of the time at speeds below 30 mph, but only worked properly 30% of the time at speeds above 30 mph.
On ato engine off - when the car stops hold the brake gently - the engine doesn't turn off press harder and it will. Also, it is to comply with the rules in some countries that the stopped vehicles must not emit and pollution, not because of quoted mileage.
Last vehicle I had was a 2016 Legacy. Once when driving don the highway at 70MPH, a pickup truck in front of me had a paper towel rag fly out of the bed and get stuck on the top of the grill. My car saw this and the dash flashed red and was just about to slam the brakes on in rush hour traffic. Luckily, the rag blew off and averted a potential accident. Other than that, it wasn't really a problem. I did set my cruise resume to ECO because I don't like aggressive acceleration. My Legacy with 2.5L engine did get 35MPG, which is excellent for a mid-sized car with AWD. Sadly, she is now in a salvage yard due to a low speed accident with a parking lot light pole and is now totaled. Now, like you, I have a 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness. Thanks for the video!
Jokes aside, these videos and instructions-explanations are highly valuable, so thank you, Claus!! I have experienced a similar braking behaviour from my car (2023 VW Tiguan) in city driving and it really surprised me. Luckily I had a low speed. But that is one of the reasons I never trust AI handling all the safety features.
About the Auto start stop i installed an electrical harness A power plug that defaults to not working unless I want to turn it on and then I press the button, it's installed in my 2021 Forester Sport and works great. The installation was done after the gearbox failure after only 49000 km and the importer in Israel did not agree to give a warranty, during use I noticed that the engine turned off and then turned on there were vibrations that I thought were vibrations coming from the exhaust, after checking several times I saw that there were no vibrations in the exhaust and it turned out to me after the failure of the gearbox that there is a small chain in the transmission that the mechanism turns off and on, it activates this chain and it is the one that causes the vibrations. In such a case, as happened to me, it causes a failure in the gearbox. Therefore, since then aftet replacing the gearbox the default for me is that the engine does not turn off unless I decide that it does. This power cord was purchased through Ali Express. Really very cheap and its value is very high . Regarding the braking of the car because of the EyeSight, this happens especially in sharp turns where the car sees bushes or walls and it brakes suddenly, I have never had emergency braking as you describe, I had a touch on the brakes not a dangerous case. Thanks for your video. Anothe big prob that that the Wilderness trim solve is the cooler oil gearbox that keep the oil in the transmission on good temps but this is an issue for another chapter.
That happened to me on the highway on a turn with an exit on the right and suddenly this red warning light began to flash rapidly as the car also applied the brakes and for a split second I took my eyes off the road not knowing what the hell was going on and when I looked up I seen the rear of an SUV on the exit lane! I was like yeah this isn’t good to think that I was heading into a collision 💥
These safety engineers...I've turned off all that crap in my Crosstrek and installed a gizmo that keeps the auto start/stop off all the time. Most annoying feature (besides stop start) is that damn lane assist.
I haven’t had a problem with this breaking when I am driving along normally in the car is front of me turn into a turn plane to the right of my vehicle the sensor sensors him slowing down in that right lane and my brakes come on. I know it’s coming so I adjust for it. But I love my Subaru wilderness!
A more accurate way to describe the drive modes is it changes throttle sensitivity. I typically don't like sport modes because it makes 20% pedal depression = 80% throttle, which is horrible. It should be a linear progression, 20% pedal depression = 20% throttle.
My wife has a Mazda CX-5 and I'll have to look for that pre collision braking setting to see if it can be set on her car as when I was driving her car it did that same thing to me however I was not on a curve and there was a car just in a left turn lane. I was like what the heck why is the car braking, now thanks to you I know why. Also the most stupidest thing manufacturers could put in a car is that dam start/stop button. My car has it and it and I have to hit that dam button every time I want to drive, good thing for me though is I also have a physical button so I don't have to hunt it down in the Info center. It would not be bad if they would just let it remember your setting but oh nooo you have to hit that button every fricken time ya want to drive unless ya like having your engine shut off on ya 15 times per every 3 blocks! (California stop lights on every freaking intersection), so hate that start/stop.
On the Subarus you just have to be light on the brake pedal and the engine doesn't stop. I like it since I can easily and quickly control it without even changing settings. If I know the route and see a long red light, I press harder to engage the auto stop start, but for stop signs and traffic, I press lightly and happily toodle along. Win-win situation here.
Pretty sure the auto off function is designed for emissions and not necessarily fuel improvement. Also Subaru claims the starter can start over a million times.
I have a 2011 STi and funny enough with lot less electronic the intelligent mode is causing more fuel consumption than sport in a normal day to day driving. So I call it the idiot mode. However I do have also the "sharp" mode for immediate throttle reaction, which is thirsty ;)
Dont you have to turn off the pre collision braking every time you turn on the car? That “safety feature” have put me in very dangerous situations several times. The dealer claims it cannot be turned off completely.
Your liking the new Sabaru and its buttons to much Claus :) The brake thing is a thing with mine to, 2018 xv . Happens alot with parked vans on the street iv noticed. I'm worried of getting arse ended especially by a bike and it would not be there fault.
We did extensive calculations on start stop on old regular car... And math is about 7 minutes. If you are gonna be stopped less than 7 minutes don't shut engine. We also did extensive calculations on having that feature on car. Fortunately they were cars with and without start stop system. Cars with the thing were about 800€ more expensive. Normal car battery is 100€ and start stop one is 450 €. Given that car battery is in about 3-4 years poop. In 20 years you will pay extra; 800 in advance + 1600 in 4 batteries 2400 eur extra for stupid thing (we assumed that system will work flawless😂😂😂not happening). For that money you can buy 1500 liters of fuel, car is using about 0,6 L per hour which gives you 700 hours of idling time. Is it worth it 🤷🤷🤷
Hell, most people I know would have no clue how to use any of the options on that, seriously, if someone isn’t tech savvy then they have no business buying something like that
They all do improvements for the worst, the cars are robots and dangerous, but as the seaing goes, "you can't fix stupid" we have to put up with the great improvements 😅
Imagine how much less expensive cars would be if they sold them without all this unnecessarily complicated and expensive technology. I suppose they have to design them so that all the people driving around playing with their cell phones while they're driving don't kill their fellow travelers.
So those 2 Steering wheel buttons stand for Idiot Mode and Stupid Mode? Just kidding. 😜 Question: Assuming you have a "normal" roadworthy car: If there isn't a spare wheel, how many wheels does your car have?
I love this parity channel. This is a parity channel right? No one really gives a shit about all this stuff right. I get in my subaru and drive it. I dont care how it does what it does to get me there. Its magic, who cares. Just drive man, stop looking behind the curtain.
@@clauskellermanpov3004 Most likely not. He'd just wheel himself into the insurance broker on his new wheelchair and sign all the papers with his non-dominant hand because his dominant hand is now in a cast and he'd be happy he's getting a new bumper 'for free'. All the while not having to worry about a thing! The bliss...
We love Subarus, we have
a 17 Outback and our daughter has a 24 Forester. But Sub is just too obsessed w/gadgets!

there is no manual. have you bought a new car lately? it's all on line.

My 2009 Smart Car doesn't need intelligent mode. I do.
Is there a double sports mode?
Hold the gas to the floor and apply breaks WHILE flooring it after disabling all front sensors.
apply BRAKES, not breaks. geez@@hicknopunk
