  • In this episode, Jansen (AKA The Gambling Angler) heads for Sandpoint, a mark on the Somerset coast that he has fished extensively for thirty years. At a tricky time of the year, Jansen provides all of the information you will need to fish here safely, as well as a whole host of other tricks and tips that will help you to land more fish over the rough ground.

Jansen I always use 2 8mm beads next to the swivel, helps with a slight boom effect keeping the hook length away from the rig body

Ah okay, I’ve found one bead does that fine, but might make a couple of rigs up with two beads and see if it makes a difference.

    Hi
Enjoyable and informative as usual, I also use 2 beads next to swivel, to give a “mini boom effect” rightly or wrongly. Ha ha
Whilst writing you mention 80 or 100 lb snood, notice taken will have to adopt that, could I enquire, you mention strong shockleader knot, which knot is your preference ?
Thanks in advance, keep the video’s coming
    Go Steady

Hi Derek, it’s not the first time I’ve seen the double bead on a pulley rig. You do whatever works for you!
I like a heavier snood, it doesn’t put the fish off and will take a lot more bashing around on the reefs. Also, a bonus conger stands a better chance of being landed on the heavier stuff.
      Tight lines to you mate!

Many thanks for your time in replying, much appreciated
Sorry to send another, which shockleader knot do you prefer, as obviously notice you bend the hook, not part the knot !
      Thanks again

Sorry- missed that bit! I use a spider hitch, it’s incredibly strong but when it does snap, it breaks at the knot. I know a lot of anglers like a Bimini twist, but although ultimately that knot is stronger, the line could break anywhere when you go for the break. This leads to lost line, a reel that will not perform so well when it loses some line, and a potential line snag.

This place is my absolute favourite place to fish, I've had 3 pbs from there and the scenery is something else. I completely agree its not an easy place to fish 😂 but when there's good fishing it's worth it
