    "Only in a rerun."
    "I have to score some steroids.,"
    "What a hothead."
    "Where's Buzzsaw?"
    "He had to split."
    "Need a light?" Throws flare at Fireball, then he blows up.

      Right, they are different but both have their strong sides.

    • @SubCapt
      @SubCapt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed : the movie seems much more inspired by French director Yves Boisset's 1883 movie "Le Prix du Danger" (aka 'The Prize of Peril'), based on a short story bearing the same title by Robert Sheckley, which had been adapted already by German Television as "Der Millionenspiel" in 1970.

    • @madaemon
      @madaemon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I kinda prefer when the movie and the book are on opposite wavelengths, since you're not just getting a live action version of something that already exists on the page. The one exception is when a movie all but ignores what the book was about (e.g. "I am Legend" with Will Smith or King's own "Lawnmower Man"), but if it's in the same general direction, I think it's not necessarily a knock against the movie that it's "not like the book." Still, if it does deviate heavily, it should at least be good in spite of it: Stephen King famously hates Kubrick's version of the Shining because it's so different narratively, but at the same time it's still a visually striking film.

    A classic tale of survival!
    Richard Connell wrote "The Most Dangerous Game" in 1924,
    adapted in cinema by Ernest B. Schoedsack and Irving Pichel in 1932.
    Robert Sheckley wrote "The Prize of Peril" in 1958, same story with the modern social dimension of television.
    Elio Petri made the movie "The 10th Victim" in 1965.
    Stephen King wrote the more futuristic "The Running Man" in 1982 under the name Richard Bachman.
    In 1983 Yves Boisset made "The Prize of Peril",
    and then Paul Michael Glaser made "The Running Man" in 1987.
    Different adaptations of the same universal and eternal tale of survival 👍

    In the original story Running Man was played all across America. The “contestant” had to send one video per day to the people at the Games Corp so thy could show it on TV. The person that reported the contestant that resulted in a kill got paid a huge sum of money with a similar prize for the runner. Richards eventually steals an enormous aircraft and crashes it into the Games Corp building. Much darker ending than the one in the film.

    I think "Climbing for Dollars" still has potential to make it as a series; let's do a pilot episode and put it out there...
