I didn’t want to watch it at first because I couldn’t imagine I’d like it. But it’s just so good. I wouldn’t say it’s better or worse but because it’s longer, it’s easier to fall in love with more characters than the movie
Probably my favorite fact about this was that the guy who plays Stu is actually just one one of Taika's friends, and never acted before this. He does backend IT stuff for productions and runs a company that develops in-camera technology for lighting/VFX coordination (which Taika used on both of the Thor films he directed, notably in that awesome black and white planet scene). He didn't even know that his role was as big as it was in the final cut, since they filmed hundreds of hours of footage just trying stuff out.
I'm a software analyst who has found himself roped into a lot of community theater acting (I was a volunteer theater techie before), and I love the character, and that story about his involvement. My first role was as a bookstore clerk (and I was a bookstore clerk at the time) so I know a bit about being cast to "just be yourself". I turned out to be a noticeably decent character actor, and wound up getting cast in all sorts of things, without really auditioning, because I was already working in the theater (hanging lights or whatever) and directors would just stick their head in and ask if I would play such and such a role. Theater in general is one of the most fun things I have ever done.
It's brilliant because it's one of the funniest roles in the movie and in order to nail it he had to do absolutely nothing: just stand around looking a bit nervous and answer any question asked on camera simply and directly. He's hilarious for his absolute lack of personality. He's like a black hole where charisma goes to die and it's great.
@@jackrussell1232 Idk, he struck me as a guy who is probably fun to hang out with, but it just turns to sheepish awkwardness when on camera. Like... Each character is more or less inspired by a fictional vampire potrayal in the media. Viago is the romanticised 'Interview with the vampire', Vlad takes after Bram Stoker's Dracula (played by Gary Oldman), Deacon is a reference to The Lost Boys, Petyr is essentially oldschool Nosferatu. And I guess Nick is the more modern 'Twilight' 😂
It's not even arguable, it's so much better and I 100% love the movie. I've read that for the movie they didn't really know what kind of movie they wanted, so for each scene, they'd do a normal scene, a funny scene, and then an off-the-wall crazy scene, and the movie ended up being a combination of all three.
