These days I’m hearing many of you ask: Do I need to have a separate consent form for online therapy, and if so, what do I need to include?
This is certainly a timely question! In this video, I name the components to consider when creating informed consent for online therapy.

Here are some items to consider including in your online counseling informed consent. Keep in mind that in some states, some of these items are required to include:
1. Benefits and Risks of online counseling
-Confidentiality
-Clinical Limitations
-Transmission Difficulties
-Ability to respond to emergencies
2. Insurance Coverage
3. Online Platform and HIPAA
4. Discretion of Appropriateness of Teletherapy

Great information! Quick question, in my private practice, part of what I do is give mental health presentations to various churches in order to educate congregations about mental health. Should I have the pastor (or those in attendance) sign an informed consent of some sort? If so, what information should be included on the consent form? I have not been able to find anything from my research on this topic. Thanks for any resources or advice you have.

Hi, can you please help with a video about your Continuing Education hours, for some reason I don't feel they make it easy to find what you need, I am first time renewing license and I need this and that but they don't say where to get it. Great question! Some of why it can be challenging is the requirements vary by state and credential. I would check with your specific governing board. It's also useful to be connected with local therapists through a Listserv or Facebook group so you can access the information for your area. Good luck!
