2016 was one of the most exciting and amazing years in Sports history. Warriors break the NBA most wins record, which seemed unbreakable, but then lose the Finals from being up 3-1 to guess who? Cleveland, who wins their first pro sports city title in over 60 years. Peyton Manning retires with a super bowl win, the Cubs win their first world series in 108 years, not to mention coming back from being down 3-1 as well to Cleveland. Kobe scores 60 in his last game. What a year for sports.
@Alan Craig Butler Duke was a terrible game. Both teams shot poorly and struggled to put 50 points on the board. This was a game in which both teams played great and it ended with arguably the 2 greatest shots in the history of College Basketball, the 3 made by Paige and by Jenkins just 4 seconds later to hit the first actual buzzer beating winner in championship history. The 83' game was won a dunk with 2 seconds still remaining. This game ended with the ball in the air and still in doubt.
+Kendosable what are you talking about? Both teams played hard, especially nova; pressing the ball on defense the entire length of the court on at least half of the Tar Heels possessions...and they were bucket for bucket practically the entire game. This game was so entertaining that I was EXPECTING it to end the way that it did. This game was a great summary and ending to the whole season of men's college basketball.
+Kendosable I could probably name 10 more reasons why this game was amazing from start to finish. If this is "mediocre" I'd like to see what you think a great game is.
+The Social Walk there's always gonna be "that guy" that sees everyone excited about something and naturally tries to be a buzzkill. You will meet them everywhere you go.
The biggest rollercoaster game ever! From the biggest highs to the lowest lows! I am a Tar Heel fan and even though we lost that game showed two championship teams play there hearts out! One of the greatest of all time!
At Kansas, Mario Chalmers' jersey was retired just a couple years ago for the 2008 shot! But he was the Final Four MOP (that's criteria for jersey retirement even if you are not an All-American at KU). I'm not sure how other schools do it, but if you make a shot in a title game to win, or go to overtime and eventually win...I think you deserve it :P But the FF MOP is what "officially" got Chalmers' jersey retired.
nobody cheated? So the school made fake classes that over 300+ athletes took and that's not cheating? Even the school administration is admitting they cheated...
joe it wasn't only athletes it was the schools problem not the athletic department and the school didn't support it it was a teacher that thought that class that was messed up.
Not me,as a Tarheel fan I’m full aware of how dangerous the Wildcats are esp in the Tournament. I first noticed it full hand when watching UNC vs Nova in 2005! Nova fought hard, played all the way through till the end but lost by a point! I’ll never forget Villanova also checked the history and learned that Nova vs UNC go way back!
Well deserved title. Played tough teams to win it all and came through every single time. Glad Jay Wright got his elusive National Title. Such an amazing coach. Also, one of the best games I have ever seen in my life! A thriller from beginning to end!
I was rooting for North Carolina because my cousin loves Villanova and I was sitting there hoping for overtime but then that shot... I was pretty satisfied anyways.
I am not American and hve never seen an NCAA championship but I like the game and out of curiousity I watched this game and immediately backed Villanova, cannot explain why. Guess NC seemed stronger but I will never miss this event again! SOOooo intense and sooo exciting! Cannot wait to see If any of these young men are drafted into the League. CONGRATS!
Renee Moore I don't really see anyone on that team that would really fit the NBA, don't get me wrong, those kids on Villanova tear up college but I just don't see any in the next level
Jay Wright has built Villanova into a 2x national champion and national powerhouse at a school that doesn’t even have 7,000 students. UNC and most other big time basketball schools usually enroll about 30,000 students. Even Duke has half of that with 15,000 or so. 2021 will be the 16th time Villanova makes the tournament in 17 opportunities. If they’re a 1 or 2 seed it will be the 6th time in 7 years that they are seeded that high. If they finish ranked in the top 10 it will be the 7th time in 8 years they finish there, too. Since 2005, ‘Nova has 3 final four appearances, 6 sweet sixteen appearances, and has won 2 national championships. Villanova is also in line to finish first in the Big East for the 7th time in 8 years. They finished 2nd by one game in 2018 but went on to win the national title anyway. Remarkable.
This is why I love college basketball. I never tune in to watch the NBA, but for March Madness/NCAA I do. I just love watching the excitement of these games and the ambition of these basketball players.
The sequence between 2:03 and 2:17 was the biggest exchange of the game. UNC had all the momentum at the end of the first half and if they convert that fast break off a turnover they go up 41-32 at half, instead a block and basket at the other end leaves it at a 5-point game and Nova carried that momentum into the second half. It will be forgotten about because of the classic final minute but that may not have ever happened without the way the first half ended.
+walterlv01 they had the momentum and if nova didnt block that layup, the prob would have lost. So close to being down by 9. Booth came back and closed the gap to 5 before the half and THAT right there... was the savior.
Villanova crushed all 5 of their prior opponents in the NCAA Tournament by an average margin of 28.4 points and Carolina played them dead even until the last 4 seconds. The Tar Heels should not feel humbled, but proud that they were in a championship game that was contested until the very end and will be long remembered.
It was a great game by both teams. Paige made the play of the tournament, then... Jenkins made the biggest one. There is no shame losing to Villanova and Coach Wright, my Jayhawks were stopped cold by their defense in the E8. They were a great team, so was UNC though. That's why they play the games right? EDIT: I do believe Roy gets his 3rd title and UNC's 6th overall soon. I just wish Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison could have made their season average of free throws in 2003 against Syracuse when Williams was still at Kansas!!! :( But hats off to the Cuse, they were much deeper! And no, there is no "bad blood" from me concerning Roy Williams. He gave Kansas 15 fantastic years, then went to his Alma Mater. I'm happy Coach Williams is home and still a winner (a big winner)!
Lovely! :-) I'm not a Nova graduate, but I'm from Philadelphia, and we've all got a soft spot a mile wide for these people. Unbelievable game -- congratulations!
It is absolutely up there the game from last night no doubt, but for me I enjoyed the UNC Vill game a little more cause of the back and forth clutch 3s at the end
I love Carolina. Really proud of them for fighting back like they did. Props to Jenkins on the shot. Saying all that. . . In the words of Billy Packer 1995, "you cannot allow a man to have that shot". Especially the best shooter on the floor. He should of been bodied up at half court. Force Nova into a contested jumper. It was just way to easy. Heart Breaking. Your the man Paige. Look forward to seeing your Jersey and Mr.Johnson's in the rafters! ALL HEART-UNC
That stop and subsequent basket at the end of the half seemed kind of important for Villanova. Things were getting out of hand and Tar Heels had all the momentum and about to build a 9-point lead into halftime. Instead the Wildcats are only down 5 points. That seemed like a big sequence.
As a UNC fan, it used to be impossible for me to watch this replay. The 2017 National Championship has healed the pain. It was this game that fueled UNC's "Redemption Tour" in 2017. Without losing like this in dramatic fashion, UNC would have never been driven to be 2017 champions. So thanks, I guess, Villanova.
Villanova sure knows how TO DO IT, huh?? I thought NC STATE and Jimmy V was the biggest upset in sports history, (and greatest tournament final I've seen), followed by Villanova's 1985 win over Georgetown, but this one topped both of them for best ending!! Sorry Jimmy V, but I still LOVE YA!!!
one of the best games I've ever seen, no drama. just straight up play. one game I'll never forget, the last game college championship I saw with my dad, I love seeing this, but hate that I see it. :/
+Oisin Ryan Maybe the best Championship game ever. Although the NC State win over Houston in '83 was just as incredible. Best college game of all time is the '92 Duke vs Kentucky Regional final. Un-freaking-believable!
First tournament meeting between both coaches, Villanova led North Carolina 33-29 at halftime in the 2005 Sweet 16. UNC ended up winning 67-66 which was their closest game of their title run that year.
Nova fan, but this was one of the best punch, counterpunch games I’ve ever seen. The other one that rings a bell was duke v Kentucky. A long time ago. Didn’t like the winner, but that was another great game.
Having a big who can shoot from the outside is so huge in situations like this. No matter how many times I see it happen, it seems like teams don't recognize this play where you have a big inbound the ball and trail the play. He ends up uncovered so often. Another epic example I can think of is the Christian Watford game-winner against Kentucky back in 2011.
2016 was one of the most exciting and amazing years in Sports history. Warriors break the NBA most wins record, which seemed unbreakable, but then lose the Finals from being up 3-1 to guess who? and obviously this game too.
Amgad Ragab Don't forget Portugal also won its first ever FIFA euro World Cup upsetting the French favourites
clemson vs alabama football was good too
and brazil won the soccer olympics final in brazil against germany

One of the best games of all time. Incredible shots, last five seconds were perfect.
Absolutely
+Mark “Instafamous” B For real!
yes the ending was crazy!!
Not one but two shining moments!!
Mark B last 4.7 seconds
NCAA > NBA if you're talking about atmosphere
The ACC (TO RAPTORS) have the best atmosphere in Basketball
Leo Messi
The toughest crowd is in the WAC
the atmosphere is so underrated, agree
Well when you’re given an nfl stadium that fits 80,000 rather than a 10,000 arena then well, I guess
Mr. Splashteen wait u high or somethin

Greatest 5 seconds in basketball history!
4.7 secs to be exact
Paige's shot was great too. Best 5 sec
No no no buddy greatest 10 seconds in nba history

I mean to say NCAA basketball history
I still can't believe the Seahawks threw the ball at the one yard line
haha
lol
+Jaryd Tabobo Should've given it to Marshawn
lol
I still cant believe Cam didn't dive for the ball
Just... wow. This is maybe the most entertaining game--sports game, not simply basketball game--that I've ever seen. Thank you, Villanova and UNC.
7:39 I love how Jay Wright (Nova Coach) doesn’t celebrate, but immediately goes over to shake hands with Roy Williams. Class
Villanova had 2 buzzer beaters this game lol..clutch
Can't deny this might just be the greatest game in NCAA history.
+Hysen Friel One of the greatest endings in NCAA finals history but the actual game aside from the ending was mediocre.
+Kendosable what are you talking about? Well said. One of the best games ever, with both teams matching and fighting through adversity.
Insane. This college basketball season almost had to end like this.
Nova nation for life
Not a Tar Heels or Villanova fan,but this will go down as one of the best College Basketball National Championship games of all time.
Yes indeed
Wow. Both teams should be so incredibly proud of their performance. Everyone on that court is a winner even though there's only one champion.
+JerryRiceplaysMc You have Mc in your name you dumbfuck
Villanova needs to make a statue for Jenkins. That shot was incredible. Easily the greatest basketball game of my life so far.
+Winston Haywood The shot by Paige was better, But I agree the Jenkins shot is what won them the game so I guess you are right.
Just because he made that shot dosent mean there should be a statue. If he won the championship all four years then there should be one
that seems a bit unrealistic in this era of college basketball
especially at Villanova..
At Kansas, Mario Chalmers' jersey was retired just a couple years ago for the 2008 shot! There maybe be nothing I am more grateful for than being a villanova fan during this tournament.

Was this really 6 years ago!! Sheesh it feels just like yesterday I watched this game on tv.
This will forever be one of the greatest championship games
I hate when people called this an upset. Nova was a legit team all year long and hung with (and beat) top squads all year long.
yep
those are the acc hopefuls and i hope they never win another championship game! Go Nova n big east!
Beat Kansas and Oklahoma before UNC, so they ran the full gauntlet.
Not me,as a Tarheel fan I’m full aware of how dangerous the Wildcats are esp in the Tournament. I first noticed it full hand when watching UNC vs Nova in 2005!
