Very nice video, and great for beginners! Once you get over the first bead jitters, it's all downhill from there to mastering it. I bought one of these units about a year ago and I'm very impressed with it. I needed something to help a friend out on a light job and I didn't want to lug the Hobart 240 over, so I stopped by Harbor Freight and picked up one of these. I figured it would be a onetime use, and I would give it to him when finished. I've always turned my nose up when Flux Core is mentioned, but man, this little machine did the job! I didn't give it to him, lol! I'm still using it on light jobs! I stumbled across your video while looking for some mods for this little machine. I going to make the cables detachable. Thanks for sharing! 😄
Nice! Good luck with your mods. Comment appreciated!!
Your on the right track. Try some ANTI SPLATTER GEL ON THE PIECES YOU WANT TO WELD. THE GEL KEEPS DOWN THE SPLATTER AND BEE BEE"S FROM FORMING.
I will have to look into that. Thanks!
First tack a few points so when you do your main weld the part doesn't move or bend. Try to do the length of the weld with one pass so you don't get porosity on each start and stop. If you burn a hole, then turn the wire speed/current down,, but looks like you could go increase wire speed/current or move slower. You should see the weld penetrate on the other side. Have fun.
Thank you. Sadly this welder has limited current control. just min and max. I'll have to play with it and see how they work. I think I need to adjust the darkness of the shield. I have it at the max setting, and I was having a hard time seeing what I was welding. I'll have to try turning it down a little.
@@TheFixitShed You can aim a light on your piece to help you see while welding. Wire speed probably increases current the higher you go. That min/max current is probably adjusting the ratio of current vs wire speed. Try a higher wire speed and I bet it will do better.
Good Job, I bought the exact same welder. And need to learn how to weld the same as you. Feel like I can do it too. Tis
You got this!
Lincoln Wire is good But i have found the Blue Demon E71T-11 .030 is Superior Very low splatter and welds Super smooth and cheaper then the Lincoln .
Thanks!
How did that Harbor Freight helmet work out for you? They sell models from $150 to $40. I do not want to spend more on the helmet than the actual welder. It will be the 1st time for me trying this too.
It seems to work ok. I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I don't have any complaints.
@@TheFixitShed Thanks.
Great video, thank you very much , note to self(nts) watched ……
Glad it was helpful!
How do i stop the wire from unspooling out the roll because i just bought wire for my mig welder and all the wire spooled out and I started crying
yeah, that can be a nightmare. when the spool is on the spindle, it shouldn't move easily and unwind the wire as long as you are holding the wire securely. if you let go of the wire, game over....
The harbor freight wire is trash. Get Lincoln wire of the same diameter and it will work much better, also clean the ground connection point ( I find that it helps too) with my old HF welder. Outside of that I love mine
Thank you for the tips!
what lincoln wire is best
I want one!
LOL. I had a hard time with this video. I bought the welder 3 months ago, and just took it out of the box last week. I was procratinating bad on this. It is hard to make a video on something you haven't done before.
@@TheFixitShed you did great!!
No welding long sleeve needed?
That's never a bad idea.
I just wanna make sure, am I able to plug this into my regular outlet or do I need to plug it into a special outlet? please and thank you.
A regular 110v 15a outlet works fine.
@TheFixitShed awesome thank you, I just sold my 90 Amp an got this version, just didnt wanna be tripping my breakers every 5 minutes lol👍
I can't figure out wire speed..i run at 5 or 6 but never know.
I am still working that out myself, but I am using that same range. Maybe a more experienced welder will be able to comment here...
are you able to see what you"re doing ok?
It is not bad. I use lights to light-up the wor area well, and there are adjustments on the helmet. I started with everything as dark as possible, and then backed off the settings until I found a balance between being able to see my work and not damaging my eyes.
@@TheFixitShed good deal I mounted a light on my helmet and use a little fan to blow the smoke away.
Excellent ideas!
