The great David Ruffin, lead singer of the Temps at that time. I was 12 years old when this song came out and instantly I knew that Motown was my music. There's a great documentary called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" about the Funk Brothers - the house band that played on every Motown song you've ever heard until 1972, when they backed up Marvin's masterpiece album What's Goin' On. Then Berry Gordy moved the shop to L.A. and that was that for the Funk Brothers. Without them there would be no Motown sound. Sorry to go on and on, but really, this music is the soundtrack of my life.
I love that Smokey Robinson's muse when he wrote this was his wife Claudette, who was one of The Miracles🎶 You're so right about it being such a present for us all, including the Temptations; Smokey has always been so generous with his creative talents💝
This was masterful. Besides the glorious harmonies, they had the looks, the unmatched choreography, the smoothness and talent that made them the Temptations. The lyrics provided by Smokey Robinson and Ron White guaranteed this would be a huge hit. And now 60 years later, it’s still a song that most people know and sing. Kudos too to the fabulous Funk Brothers for the great instrumentation. Everything about this was great. Thank you so much for the great memories. Wishing you both a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Love Airplay Beats. 👏👏🥰🎄
I still have my favorite vinyl album of all time The Temptations Sing Smokey. Also The Way You Do The Things You Do, What Love Has Joined Together, You Beat Me To The Punch, etc.
Saw the Temptations at least 5 times. I even took my mom to see them. They were great! And the Temptation movie is one of my favorites. The acting is terrific!
Is there anyone who doesn't love this song. It has a special memory for me - my brother danced to this with my niece at her wedding. Ahh, how sweet ❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing this, fellas!! The guitar riff is all the introduction this song needs! You know instantly what song it is!! Excellent reaction, fellas!!
Had to have those stylized outfits and a dance routine back then. Now we need some Mary Wells "My Guy" or "The One Who Really Loves You" or anything she did.
When I was a teen growing up in North Philly I wanted to be cool and smooth so my role model was David Ruffin. As Sonny Hobson aka The Mighty Burner on WDAS would have said back in the day--give it up for the tall--tan--talented--tempting--Temptations. By the way--a young Daryl Hall worked for the Temps in the mid 60s...
As a little kid Motown was my first love in music. Then I stumbled onto the "black station" in town and discovered all the incredible soul music that wasn't played on the "white stations". Great stuff.
You guys should look into, “Standing in the Shadows of Motown.” It’s a documentary about the musicians who played on all of the recordings. Their roster had very little turnover resulting in the Motown Sound.
Such a great song. David Ruffin had an incredible voice. One of my favorites by him is I think his first solo single release - My Whole World Ended. If you guys don’t know that one, please check it out. I can guarantee you’ll love it.
One of my very favorite temptation songs but you know it’s hard to decipher because there were so many… But this was one of the first so I think that’s why it sticks out in my mind
It's emotionally difficult for me to watch David. I was at the last concert he performed. He was found dead a few days later. Having been through all the 27 club members then years later David. So much talent gone way too soon. Hits hard.
This song is played at every sweet sixteen and wedding where the father dances with his daughter. No motown group - soul group touches the Temps when we were kids in Brooklyn it seemed every 3 months the Temps had a hit on the radio !! GOD BLESSED THE 60's & 70's that music aint never coming back ! All other REACTIONERS should be banned and AIRPLAY BEATS would stand alone.
I those days they Lip Synced when appearing on Rock n Roll tv shows. Notice the kids doing "The Temptation Walk"? Its a great dance in your in your mid 70s.
Love the Temptations. Ball of Confusion is an absolute must. Also I don’t know if you reacted to Tina Turner if you do start with You Better Be Good to Me. ❤
I would want to be Eddie Kendricks who told all those Motown jerks to go to hell and then had a successful solo career. He also helped Paul Williams record some songs but Motown wouldn't release them. He also gave Florence Ballard money to feed her children after Diana Ross got her fired.
I wish we could have Motown Mondays everyday. Love it.
Those songs are pure absolute joy to listen to.

Man, I loved it when this song came on the radio back then. Happy memories.
when I was in Vietnam in 1969 we used to sing this song to our right hand !
😂😂😂

Holland Dozier Holland , Smokie , Stevie and all the rest wrote some of the greatest songs in the Motown Catalogue and in the Great American SongBook.
I sang this song with my daughter in the car. Such great music and memories. Thank you dudes
I love this song!! It's one of my all-time favorites!! I'm 69 years old, so I was nine when this came out! Thanks!!

Motown Forever !!!! Merry Christmas from Detroit
Merry Christmas!!
I still have my favorite vinyl album of all time The Temptations Sing Smokey.
Also The Way You Do The Things You Do, What Love Has Joined Together, You Beat Me To The Punch, etc.
Both Paul Williams and Motown choreographer, Cholly Atkins, choreographed My Girl.
Style and finesse…never gets old!! Thanks guys!
When perfoming on TV meant something.
My god, what a simpler time. The vocals were everything back then.
I've seen the Temps three times- for this song, the standing O starts with the first few notes.💜☮
Saw the Temptations at least 5 times. I even took my mom to see them. They were great! And the Temptation movie is one of my favorites. The acting is terrific!
My favorite movie!!
Is there anyone who doesn't love this song. It has a special memory for me - my brother danced to this with my niece at her wedding. Ahh, how sweet ❤❤❤
Smokey Robinson song with the Funk Brothers and the unmistakable opening guitar riff. Now, we need Mary Wells’ “My Guy” on Motown Monday. 💜💜💜
Still a great song all these years later. The Temps at their prime.
I remember being a little kid and mom running the vacuum and singing this one.
It was a treat back then everybody was on TV, so you didn't miss any artist and their hits.
Thanks for sharing this, fellas!! The guitar riff is all the introduction this song needs! You know instantly what song it is!! Excellent reaction, fellas!!
Thanks ML. We tried silent night but had some technical difficulties so we just put out the Rudolph song.
@AirplayBeats I actually forgot about the Temps doing Rudolph. Great call. Have a blessed and safe holiday, my friends!!!!
Yay! A classic … thanks for sharing … Merry Christmas 🎄
One of those perfect records
Fantastic! Also love the Bulls cap (Chicagoan here!)
You guys are so good at this - the best. Your format and insight make me smile, such fun!
Had to have those stylized outfits and a dance routine back then. Now we need some Mary Wells "My Guy" or "The One Who Really Loves You" or anything she did.
@@EricAnderson888 And, You Beat Me To The Punch! ❤️
Laa and Chee! Nothing better than this…David is incredible..
Another great review on one of the greatest songs of all time. Btw, Paul Williams did the choreography for "My Girl'🙌🏿
This is a song to sing to. Love it

Hard not to smile when watching this.
Pure magic. Happy Christmas everybody.
In a year of great records,1964, the year of Beatlemania, this may be the very best.
Merry Christmas Gentle Men , and to Your Families and Loved Ones.

Me too! Exactly the same experience...Motown forever!
Back in the days when they didn’t even bother trying to make it seem “live.” But the moves were great!
I do motown on Sunday morning, everybody's still sleeping in, i can enjoy my coffee and just chill.
I met the man himself...Berry Gordy a few years ago. Quite the gentleman. What an icon (and ladies man.) ❤😊
One word. SMOOTH.
Classic, classic
A great classic. Everyone loves this song. Have a great Christmas boys. Later...
Written by Smokey Robinson, first lead vocal for the Temptations by David Ruffin…
@@VincentAgostino-gy6hr Ron White of the Miracles also got writing credit along with Smokey. 👏👏👍
Class act

My favorite song in the R&R Era
Such a great song. David Ruffin had an incredible voice. One of my favorites by him is I think his first solo single release - My Whole World Ended. If you guys don’t know that one, please check it out. I can guarantee you’ll love it.
One of my very favorite temptation songs but you know it’s hard to decipher because there were so many… But this was one of the first so I think that’s why it sticks out in my mind
This is one of the greatest songs of the 20th century. Not kidding.
Shout out to Smokey Robinson and Ronald White for writing such an influential classic for The Temptations.
It's emotionally difficult for me to watch David. I was at the last concert he performed. He was found dead a few days later. Having been through all the 27 club members then years later David. So much talent gone way too soon. Hits hard.
The Ruffin/Kendricks "Pure Soul" Period and later the Edwards "Psychedelic" Periods were unmatched in music history!
AM radio in the 60’s and 70’s was as diverse as it gets! They played everything! Except country! You had to tune into the country station.😂

Classic!!!!
I miss those days
The best music to come out of the 20th century, Motown
Love the Temptations. Ball of Confusion is an absolute must. Also I don’t know if you reacted to Tina Turner if you do start with You Better Be Good to Me. ❤
A great, great classic from Motown. Peace out.
David's Process is TIGHT!!
My ringtone for my wife’s calls.
Sharp!

Hey Claire, do you and Eddie have the same birthday?
@@AirplayBeats We do! He was born in 1939 and I was born in 1954.
@ that’s awesome. I saw it was his birthday the same day you told me it was your birthday.
@@AirplayBeats Paul Rodgers, lead singer for Free and Bad Company, was also born on Dec. 17. He was born in 1949.
like it is a different league
