Thanks for the such a detailed informative video. Just wanted to know if the use of drones are permitted in these areas? Also any idea on traveling to hanle in bike during mid April this year? Asking since as I understnd winter was quite late this year.
@sreejiravi well, officially you are not allowed and always make sure you are not filming any sensitive zone, army settlements, signs where it strictly says no drone, etc.. For Hanle trip, well you can do in April as there isn’t a pass and road remains open from Leh all year.. just that it will be very cold so go prepared

Yes after Loma all the way till Hanle all is very much tarred, in fact when I went in Sept 2023 Leh to Hanle was all tarred except 8 km before Mahe when going from Leh to Hanle.. this season all that will be built too
Hello sir. Am from Mauritius. This video is very informative with a view to plan my visit to Hanle. Am very much interested in looking astrotourism at Hanle.
Thank you for the video. Quick update there is ATM at Nyoma SBI and one other, fuel station is opening in Nyoma, BSNL is the only option in Hanley. It's also one day on next day off. Extra fuel if one has to buy it's available in Padma homestay.
Hi Dheeraj, I am just love the way you explain routes in details and so many important things…and only important things. My question: what can I see within the Hanley observatory as tourist ? Is there any permit or any special permission required ?
no permit required to visit monastery, you can just visit it. nothing much to see unless you are passionate about telescope and astrophysics and want to understand more about the functioning of things inside
Good video sir In September 2022 In Hanle ELECTRICITY was available from 6am to 8 am then 6pm to 11 pm every day. Was there 3 days. Did Umlingla Solo, age 58. Sir which software or app to make the map animation. Regards
Thankyou very much for the Informative video. We are starting our ride on 1st may from Mumbai via manali - Gonbo Rangjon - Tso moriri- Hanle - umlingla - Pangong lake - manali. Hope so all the routes would b open by then. Your Valuable suggestion for our plan is welcomed. :)
Yes, very high chances that by that time these routes shall open. Back up plan should be to enter from Srinagar side and then as and when you reach the exit routes they shall open too, if in case they don't open by April end.
How will ne night sky from Hanle in June second week. And will there be more difference in night sky from Tso Moriri and Hanle during June. Do we get through see night sky through observatory in Hanle or is it ban for tourists.
You cannot make a difference with naked eyes the night sky from anywhere remote in Ladakh and Hanle when it is dark and no light around. No you don’t get to see from Telescope, they just show you pictures and videos on computer
Great info and presentation as well. I would also like know the timings to visit the observatory. If we stay at Chumathang and visit Hanle then I dont want to miss the timing . I did not get this information anywhere else. Thank you!
Well, in general you can visit the observatory till 6 PM.. also don’t stay at Chumathang.. if you want a authentic Ladakhi experience then stay a bit before at Teri Village, offbeat place in Ladakh at Cho House. Check my videos on Cho House and Teri Village on my channel
Hi Dheeraj - I love your content. Love the way you explain. Can you pls make one video on travelling solo? How to carry money? Safety precautions, must carry stuff. I love riding Solo; hence it will be great if you can share.
Bhai, loved your creations. We are planning to do Leh, Nubra, umlingla pass, tso moriri lake and the most important of all the Hanley village. We wanted to skip pangong. Any suggestions on how to plan the itinerary will be greatly appreciated. We are planning to hire bikes so the suggestion you had to carry fuel will also be greatly appreciated
Well, it depends how many days you have in hand. I will say that you should just include the stay at Pangong even if you don't want to explore a new route towards Hanle and make the itinerary more balanced since you are visiting Nubra Valley anyways. Now as of May 2024, you will find petrol pumps ar following places in Ladakh Leh, Karu near Leh, Diskit in Nubra , Tangtse near Pangong Lake, Nyoma near Hanle and Tso Moriri (Newly operational in 2024) Then if you exit on Manali Leh highway from Tso Moriri then next petrol pump will be Keylong. So if you are doing Ladakh circuits as above, you will need to manage about 290 km without petrol pump in case returning to Leh or Karu otherwise if you exit from Tso Moriri to Keylong/Manali then you need to manage about 420 km
Hello sir I am going on 7 may to 15 may To muje query hai ki number of petrol pumps kitne hai aur kitna Carry karna padta hai i am starting my tour from leh -nubra-turtuk-pangong-leh-tso moriri can I cover hanle with 7 may to 15 may

I have become a fan of you. One question - Is there a sattelite phone that we can pay and use for making calls in hanle? or can we use any person's bsnl mobile there by paying for the call?

Hi Dheeraj, great video with a lot of useful information! I know you recommend a 7-10 day trip, but what would you suggest the itenery should be if we only had about 2.5 days in Ladakh? I too am in the US and will be flying out today and only have a few days to spare for the trip. I usually prefer remote and secluded destinations and really liked your video on Hanle and feel we should include that in our road trip. What do you think about Srinagar-Leh-Tso Moriri-Hanle? I feel the risk of AMS is low since altitude gain is gradual and we can spend the first night in Leh, then Tso Moriri/ Hanle and the last night in Hanle. It would be ideal if we could go to Manali and then Delhi but high chance the road would be closed next week. Also, is there some sort of a schedule when Srinagar hwy is closed one side every alternate day? Eg. Mon- Srinagar to Leh stays open, Tue- Leh to Srinagar stays open. Let me know how I can contribute in return for this help.
Amar bhai.. I like the enthusiasm you have here to cover such offbeat places in such short time.. However, AMS is a real thing and may end you up in Leh Hospital Tourist ward if you plan the trip in the way.. so plz dont.. two days after flying are needed just in Leh for acclimatization and plus it will be cold up there.. I understand living in US we do not care much about cold but just imagine living in US without heating in our homes is termed an emergency situation.. up there in Ladakh cold will be like that only most of the time without any heating facilities inside at least not centrally, so going through cold up there is different than what we experience here in US.. this means body have to fight cold as well as high altitude.. roads are closed or very dangerous by now for travel, may be they be open especially Srinagar Leh but not recommended now to travel by road and you have only 2.5 days so spending 2 days on road does not make any sense.. Now what can you so in 2.5 days.. Rest 2 days in Leh, drink lot of fluids and don’t exert.. Last day you can go for a day trip to Khardungla if it is safe or do a Sham Valley trip and Day 4 fly out of Leh.
Nice vlog U mention that Leh - hanle bus is on only Saturday Hanle- Leh bus ? I m budget astrophotographer so please tell me first according to plan my trip Thanks 😊

Hello Sir - Looking at current situation. Multiple closed down near Srinagar leh highway at zojila pass. Is it looking feasible to you if we plan for trip during week of 1st may? Thank you.
If the weather stays stable then situation will improve in next couple of weeks and possibly that roads will get widen. So there are chances that roads can be thrown open or get better, especially Srinagar to Leh by first week of May.
As of now, it is only open for military vehicles and for civilians it is expected to open by end of April or whenever weather and road conditions are safe. Camping k liye bahut hi thandda hoga Manali Leh Highway

Hello dheeraj ji. Harry here (one from the list of your fans😊) Can I cover Hanley and umling la via padum (zanskar velley) easily in context with time and comfort?? Kindly reply.
After covering Zanskar Valley, you can come down towards Tso Moriri, Hanle and Umling La to complete it. You will need to carry enough spare fuel to do it.
Hello Dheeraj my route is Nubra, Pangong Tso, Hanle, Umling la, Karrok, Leh. my question: is it possible to do this route as a foreigner? I just need these two permits, Leh Ladakh Inner Line Permits and the environment/green/ecology fee? how would you go first to Nubra valley or first to Hanle? 7 days are enough? thank you very much your forum helped me a lot in the Zanskar Valley
Hello Peter.. As of now as per official statements, Umling La is not open for foreigners but Hanle has been allowed. For Umling La you can check with the villagers themselves. Route you should follow from Nubra side to Hanle. Provided you have acclimatized for two days in Leh this is how itinerary will look like in general from day 3 Leh to Nubra Nubra to Pangong Pangong to Hanle Umling La day trip if allowed Hanle to Tso Moriri Tso Moriri to Terido Village Cho House stay(check my videos on it) Terido to Leh
Sir love your videos, I'm binge watching them. Are you aware if the roads to Pangong lake are good or bad especially from Srinagar to Leh road? I've heard its very bad, im planning to go with pillion in May end.
The road from Srinagar to Leh is 95% all good and tarred. The road from Leh to Pangong Lake as of September 2023 when I was last there is 90% good and tarred. Only few KMs around Changla Pass are bad dirt track type but the construction work going on between Tangtse to Pangong is complete now and is fully tarred smooth road
Hello Dheeraj ji, .Is it feasible to ride to Hanle directly from Pang with stopover at Chumathang, while coming from Manali (without going to Leh)? Planning like: Jispa- Hanle- Umling la-- Rezang la memorial - Leh...plz advise.
It is feasible, the only concern I have for such trips is AMS. You should better go to Leh to acclimatize, sleep well, rest well and then come towards this side. OR you go from Srinagar side. I generally do not suggest traveling from Manali side purely because in case AMS hits, it is remote place to get any help as well.

Can we stay in our own tent at Tso moriri on either bank? We have planned for Ladakh in mid September then when should we apply for online booking? Thank you Sir.
Pangong and Tso Moriri both are protected under Ramsar sites. So it is illegal to camp on the banks of the lake. You can set up camps about 500-800 mtrs away from the lake banks
Hey Dheeraj ! I will be going to Hanle from Tangste and not Leh. So which route is better - Tangste - Chushul - Thangra - Hanle OR Tangste - Hemis - Chumathang - Hanle
Hi. Have been to Ladakh twice and hence covered the usual tourist spots. Pls help with an itinerary for offbeat places like Tso MO Riri, Tso Kar, Hanle, Lumayuru, Chumthang, Turtuk. Etc. Will fly from Delhi to Leh, number of days is flexible
Hi Neha, you may follow below plan: Day 1 | Leh Rest day and acclimatize Day 2 | Leh local sightseeing and acclimatize Day 3 | Leh to Diskit/Hunder in Nubra Day 4 | Turtuk Day Trip Day 5 | Diskit/Hunder to Pangong Lake Day 6 | Pangong Lake to Hanle Day 7 | Umling La Day trip from Hanle Day 8 | Hanle to Tso Moriri Day 9 | Tso Moriri to Leh Day 10 | Rest in Leh/Buffer day Day 11 | Fly out
Hello my husband and myself keep watching your videos and he is a great fan of yours. Right now we are in Leh. We will be going to PANGONG and we have bookings in Hanle, but we are a bit scared whether it is advisable to visit or not, we are both sr citizens, and we are travelling by THAR. We are really eager to visit hanle and umlingla, pls advise
Dheeraj bhi.... In this episode you said Leh to Hanle is 255 km and the road conditions are good. But the time span you said is 10-11 hrs to travel from Leh to Hanle. Please clarify....
Sorry for confusion bhai.. Well KM wise 255km is there and usually will take about 7 hrs non-stop drive.. However, it all depends how many breaks you will take in between.. I usually take lot of breaks because the route is very scenic and provide ample of spots to take pictures, enjoy scenery and also visit monasteries on the way.. I factored in these stops along with meal stops.. it is not just driving time but includes everything meals, drinks, bathroom, pictures, videos, etc..
If i go via nubra, pyangong to hanle. Road is not good right? I have 8 days and I really want to visit hanle. But I will taking 2 wheeler to reach places. What will be best route considering quality of road
Nubra to Pangong road is in very bad shape this year due to the construction of a new road which will be double lane. Rest all roads in Ladakh are mostly in good shape.
I do not recommend that in general due to AMS concerns.. but if you plan well with AMS in mind then you may try out.. nothing certain all depends upon how much taxi drivers on spot will create issues
Hi again Dheeraj. Is it advisable to ride to Hanle around may 7th? If yes, which other places can I include? I am looking at 7 to 10 day ride. Is it advisable to ride all alone? Thanks.

Ayesha, best in terms of balance of safety and beautiful views will be to reach Hanle from Pangong via Chusul - Tsaga - Loma route... I like it the most!

One of them is with Holiday Inn Homestay
Bhai abhi mujhe jitna pata hai usk accordingly 1. Odd Dates traffice allowed hai Kargil se Srinagar ki tarah, jaise aaj 11 April ko hoga. Traffic sirf subah subah 7 AM to 830 AM hi allow hota hai aur LMVs/choti gaadiyaan allowed hain bas anti-skid chains k saath. Agar vo nahin hai to allow nahin karenge aur cutoff time k baad bhi allow nahin hoya. 2. Even dates traffic allowed hota hai Srinagar se Kargil ki taraf, jaise kal 12 April ko hona chahiye.

Hello Dheeraj Ji, love all your videos, top notch quality.. wanted to ask you a couple of things? Is starting of May a good time to go cause I was told there won’t be any greenery during this time, so it basically looks like the rest of Ladakh? Also are DSLR cameras allowed in Hanle?
@@discoverwithdheeraj is it worth going now in May? Finding it hard to include it in our itinerary.. are the landscape views/night sky wayy different from rest of Ladakh?
Well landscape is different as you see smaller mountains and well it is a cold desert and would mostly look like desert barring few patches around villages all over ladakh anytime you travel. Night sky wont be much different from naked eyes. If you are finding too difficult to add in plan then better not add and enjoy rest of ladakh

@ronakshah2050 it shall be between 5-15 degrees and once lights at switched off after dark sanctuary hours, guess 10 pm, it becomes more apparent and very visible. I was up till like 11.30ish and was visible up there in September
Hi Dheeraj, I'm planning Ladakh road trip in my Skoda Slavia 1.5 MT in first 2 weeks of June. Here's where I'm most confused from Pangong to Hanle. I'm staying in Merak village near Pangong. 1. How much time will it actually take via Chushul route? (Map shows around 4 hrs, but it should definitely be more considering road conditions) 2. Would it be better to go via Karu, where I think road conditions are good? (Map shows around 8 hr 20 mins). 3. Or any other better route/plan you could suggest?
1. It will take around 6 hrs to Hanle 2. No, take the direct route via Chusul Tsaga La Loma route 3. Best will be to travel to Hanle from the route in #2

@@discoverwithdheeraj thank you Dheeraj ji

Great info and presentation as well. I would also like know the timings to visit the observatory. If we stay at Chumathang and visit Hanle then I dont want to miss the timing . I did not get this information anywhere else. Thank you!
Well, in general you can visit the observatory till 6 PM.. also don’t stay at Chumathang.. if you want a authentic Ladakhi experience then stay a bit before at Teri Village, offbeat place in Ladakh at Cho House. Check my videos on Cho House and Teri Village on my channel

Thank you Chamba bhai
Now as of May 2024, you will find petrol pumps ar following places in Ladakh
Leh, Karu near Leh,
Diskit in Nubra ,
Tangtse near Pangong Lake,
Nyoma near Hanle and Tso Moriri (Newly operational in 2024)
Then if you exit on Manali Leh highway from Tso Moriri then next petrol pump will be Keylong.
So if you are doing Ladakh circuits as above, you will need to manage about 290 km without petrol pump in case returning to Leh or Karu otherwise if you exit from Tso Moriri to Keylong/Manali then you need to manage about 420 km
Hello sir I am going on 7 may to 15 may
To muje query hai ki number of petrol pumps kitne hai aur kitna Carry karna padta hai i am starting my tour from leh -nubra-turtuk-pangong-leh-tso moriri can I cover hanle with 7 may to 15 may
Tso Moriri k baad kahan jaaoge? Wapis Leh?
Petrol pumps aapko Leh, Diskit aur Tangtse mein milega

how is the road through Wari La?
I mean Nubra- Wari La- Chemrey- Hemis- Upshi- Chumathang- Loma- Hanle route?
I m particularly concerned about the Wari La ascend n decend.
That route is OK. Wari La is mostly tarred road just few kms around the pass is broken but nothing worrisome as per last year roads at least..

Hanle se chumur ho kar tso moriri ka permit kahan se milega. Aur innova ja sakti hai 2×2
Permit to kahin nahin lagta.. Chumur route par army k checkpost k upar hai vo allow karenge ya nahin.. on spot hi kar paaoge aap

When Monali leh highway opene and srinagar leh highway tourist allowed in April. Can I make a tent stay in please tell me 🙏
As of now, it is only open for military vehicles and for civilians it is expected to open by end of April or whenever weather and road conditions are safe. Camping k liye bahut hi thandda hoga Manali Leh Highway

Hello Dheeraj
my route is Nubra, Pangong Tso, Hanle, Umling la, Karrok, Leh. my question:
is it possible to do this route as a foreigner?
I just need these two permits,
Leh Ladakh Inner Line Permits and the environment/green/ecology fee?
how would you go first to Nubra valley or first to Hanle?
7 days are enough?
thank you very much your forum helped me a lot in the Zanskar Valley
Hello Peter..
As of now as per official statements, Umling La is not open for foreigners but Hanle has been allowed. For Umling La you can check with the villagers themselves.
Route you should follow from Nubra side to Hanle.
Provided you have acclimatized for two days in Leh this is how itinerary will look like in general from day 3
Leh to Nubra
Nubra to Pangong
Pangong to Hanle
Umling La day trip if allowed
Hanle to Tso Moriri
Tso Moriri to Terido Village Cho House stay(check my videos on it)
Terido to Leh
Sir love your videos, I'm binge watching them. Are you aware if the roads to Pangong lake are good or bad especially from Srinagar to Leh road? I've heard its very bad, im planning to go with pillion in May end.
The road from Srinagar to Leh is 95% all good and tarred. The road from Leh to Pangong Lake as of September 2023 when I was last there is 90% good and tarred. Only few KMs around Changla Pass are bad dirt track type but the construction work going on between Tangtse to Pangong is complete now and is fully tarred smooth road

You should be able to get in Leh, Manali, Kargil, most likely Keylong too

Thanks for the advice 🙏

Pangong and Tso Moriri both are protected under Ramsar sites. So it is illegal to camp on the banks of the lake. You can set up camps about 500-800 mtrs away from the lake banks

After visiting Umlingla and spending the night in Hanle can we leave for Leh next day by skipping tso moriri?
Yes you can do it brother
If I have to do Manali-Hanle-Umlingla-Karzok-Manali do they allow rental self drive bike or car? No Leh town visit. Exclusive umlingla ride.
I do not recommend that in general due to AMS concerns.. but if you plan well with AMS in mind then you may try out.. nothing certain all depends upon how much taxi drivers on spot will create issues

That is true, June-July is mainly when greenery begins
@@discoverwithdheeraj is it worth going now in May? Finding it hard to include it in our itinerary.. are the landscape views/night sky wayy different from rest of Ladakh?
Well landscape is different as you see smaller mountains and well it is a cold desert and would mostly look like desert barring few patches around villages all over ladakh anytime you travel. I plan to travel to Hanle to watch the Persids meteor shower that takes place on the night of Aug 12th.
Would it be a good time to visit or do you think it might be cloudy around then?
Can't really predict exactly but August is generally cloud in Ladakh
Hi, planning to visit in Sept. From Pangong to Hanle how long will it take to reach?
Pangong to Hanle in general is about 6 hrs drive
Hello is Milky Way visible around in June July ? And is it visible from naked eye?
Any clear sky day it will be visible and yes by naked eyes you can see it once it is fully dark.. moon should not be there to have an impact sighing
@@discoverwithdheeraj so the Milky Way is visible for how much time and what would be the temperature at night at hanle?
@ronakshah2050 it shall be between 5-15 degrees and once lights at switched off after dark sanctuary hours, guess 10 pm, it becomes more apparent and very visible. I was up till like 11.30ish and was visible up there in September
@@discoverwithdheeraj then hope that’s it’s visible in June July too. And 1 last question
Is Milky Way visible from Pangong or Nubra???
Pangong towards MErak and Man villages you should be able to see. Nubra I haven't given it a shot.
Hi Dheeraj,
I'm planning Ladakh road trip in my Skoda Slavia 1.5 MT in first 2 weeks of June.
Here's where I'm most confused from Pangong to Hanle.
I'm staying in Merak village near Pangong.
1. How much time will it actually take via Chushul route? (Map shows around 4 hrs, but it should definitely be more considering road conditions)
2. Would it be better to go via Karu, where I think road conditions are good? (Map shows around 8 hr 20 mins).
3. Or any other better route/plan you could suggest?
1. It will take around 6 hrs to Hanle
2. No, take the direct route via Chusul Tsaga La Loma route
3. Best will be to travel to Hanle from the route in #2
Which will be the best time or month to visit hanle for stargazing
September will be the best time
@@discoverwithdheeraj sir I want to go to hanle at no moon night for better view so shall I go to 3rd sept or should I go to 2oct because this both date are of no moon night.please suggest sir.
@jaigarg4805 both dates seems good to have a chance of a clear sky in general.. Sept will be less cold while October will be pretty cold at night
