I have such a love hate relationship with this game, I think i made 10k cats on my first 2 days looting all the bodies near the hub because for some reason bandits keep attacking it, then a bunch of alpha dogs knocked out some guards far enough from the town for me to loot them without getting caught. Hired 2 people and bought a bag, then proceeded to go on my merry way excited for the adventure. Only to be ambushed by like 3-4 skimmers and immediately died on the desert. As all 3 of my characters were knocked out some random outlaw farmer looted my body and took all my meds so we all just bled out to death. 10/10 game
Basically the first sessions of playing this game are pure pain and suffering, but then you learn and things get slightly easier bit by bit. It's so satisfying.

Litterally any robotics store. Best one in heft with the traders guild. Stand In the doorway, facing out, for best results pause it while running already: Steal everything not nailed down! He doenst chase you if you exit straight away, and guards dont really care as robotic shops are a difforent faction. Very rarely you are caught. That's 30kcats without a bag! Sell it at a bar, get a backpack when 30 second stealing timer goes away. Then! Do it with a backpack for 100k cats Or buy a garu, and do it for 200k!!!! He restock every day.

just run to vain and mine copper while waiting for some beakies to wander into the hive village, loot their meat+leathers and sell until you get 10k get a longhouse in squin, research tech 2, research leatherworking, level up armorsmithing with all the animal skins you got from beakies standard grade trader leathers are already profitable and you only need to buy fabrics from the general store every couple days this may not be the fastest way to get money but it definitely trains your armorsmithing skill the fastest, so at the end of the ordeal you will have a full high/standard grade set of armor if not specialist which is actually the best way for a low tier character to level up
I like stealing beakthing eggs for fast cash, you don't need mercs either, you just have to run through holding down your rmb and press r every second, this will make the beak things chasing you stop their running attack and try to do a normal attack, keep doing this until you get close enough to the eggs to loot them. If you don't want to do the cheesy beakthing strat, then you can do a hashish run, which is where you buy all the hashish in the swamp and then run to the flats lagoon and sell it there for a fat profit.
My way of making quick cats: Build a base in southern swamps, get tech up to a level you can farm riceweed and hash production, make sake, sell it to catun, make hash and sell it to flats lagoon You'll be swimming in cats!
my favorite method is going to Catun, pretty hard to get there early game without being eaten alive but if you manage to make it to the gates you're set, that place has Beak Things, Bonedogs, Boneyard Wolves and Garrus and all of them like to fight the guards at the gate, wait for the guards to kill them and get the animal skin, they drop so many you're going to be making a few trips if you're playing solo. I managed to afford high tier weapon from the Scraphouse and armor from the Armour King by only selling those pelts
nvm all that, weeks of gameplay taught me a heist on the prostetic shop in the Deadlands or the great library in Black Scratch can make you 300k+ easily, lvl up that stealth and lockpicking and you're set
The egg heist was a great idea! i managed to find a nest with more eggs and had 2 chars with me in addition to a small bag. we made out like bandits AND, when i was selling stuff, all five of my guards actually came back and survived some how xD
good video, gets the basics right. the thing with mercenarys is that you can heavily "exploid" them, even though it was prolly ment to be exactly like that. get mercenarys, take them to some equaly strong opponents with good gear/equipment. enjoy the show on how they kill eachother, wait a bit and loot the enemys AND the mercenarys. depending on the spot you are taking your mercenarys, you can get 100k+ a day with no prob.
I have a feeling you mine copper as a solo and wonder why it makes no money. Fun fact, copper with the right amount of characters/labor skill will automatically generate passive, disposable, income that can be anywhere between raw resources to finished high quality goods. Is best long-term if not using an Outpost

Step 7: Repeatedly attempt to KO them until your assassination is >60. Step 8: Go to Bast. Step 9: Put yourself in a slave cage with the lowest lock rating. Step 10: Repeatedly attempt to escape and enter cages of increasing difficulty until your lock picking is >60 Step 11: Go to the United Cities and just rob them blind until you have 1 million cats. Step 12: Go sneak up on the Gutters King. KO the Bastard and carry him to some slavers shop in a city. Step 13: Repeatedly buy his freedom and KO him (which will make the slavers enslave him again) until the Gutters (Beak Things) are allies. Step 14: Run until your athletics is >60. If you play the vanilla then this is a good way to make money or hunt rare game and sell their skins-eggs. Another good option would be is the ancient labs but this is not adviced to do with low level characters and the best would be is hiring some character which have 20-25 stats on their main things. I personally like to mod the game so I adjusted prices and items so it seem a little bit easier to make money and have more option to make money but still remains hard. I like the moddability of the game.
Sent a bonedog out to scout a foggy place and when I later checked on him all I saw was robot spiders shanking him and giant hands reaching skyward while the screen read OBEDIENCE
If you want to train up a thief character but don't want them to be effectively blacklisted from every single store, one thing I would recommend would be robbing residential buildings because even if they do catch them stealing the shop owners don't refuse to trade with your faction... And it trains up all of the basic skills to a baseline levels as long as you go after stuff on shelves I'm saying this here because it is very easy to feed your character is always get slightly better equipment for them by doing this. Granted it's training first and foremost
My suggest, first join den of thieves clan in hub buy thieves backpack, u can train via dummy in thieves place from attack, assasin, and lockpicking training. Then u should focust more train strength after u got money enought to buy decent samurai armor high or specialist grade armor train toughness. U can put all item in the bag except medkit then drop it before u u fought hungry bandit or dust bandit. U will get it
my go to strat for making cats early is to go up to any npc "playing dead" pause the game, and repeatedly steal the same item from them until pickpocket is ~80 then go to traders edge in Heng. from there, either buy a set of tools (from money usually earned from selling skimmer claws from the 1-4 that inevitably attack the gates) or just steal them, and then go to the bank and use it on the center safe in the store room. don't worry, the trader's guild doesn't typically have anyone check the room anyway. once done, the safe will be permanently cut open even when the contents respawn (until you import). take the Pearls, CPUs, and power cores and sell them to the clothes shop, bars, mechanical shop, and limbs shop you can get over 100000 cats at day 2-3 (may very on generated contents of safe)
@Mark Kenshi is what you make of it, and there are many avenues to success each with their various pitfalls. Kenshi is also a very cruel world full of "unfairness". In the base game your squad can't go past 50 while you may end up fighting numbers 4 times your own. In certain situations, enemies can bypass hit stun even at low toughness to get free hits on you. Some of the starts begin with you in the middle of Venge in the day time while starving. While finding ways to survive honestly are fulfilling, I'd argue its equally fulfilling to find ways to beat the system and earn a leg up. Besides, thievery and money may net you food and equipment, having just that won't be enough to accomplish anything in the game beyond just surviving. You still need to put in the work if you ever want to do anything substantial in this game like wage war, hunt bounties, or set up your own city.
Going into business yourself is the way. My playthroughs start with basic looting to get a few k to hire mercs. I hire mercs 1 or 2 days. Then i go loot beak thing nests. Taking advantage of my mercs distracting them to grab the eggs. Also possible hardcore by just specing hard stealth and just stealing them. 10s of thousands of cats to start a smithing or brewing company. I had a sake empire once ( :
Yeah that's Tee easiest way to make a bunch of money imo. Especially since the beak things often leave their nests unguarded and they contain a shit load of eggs.
I made a ton of money by making Toothpick Bolts. They stack in a group of 10, and sell for 121 Cats EACH, so that means one stack of 10 sells for 1,210 Cats a stack, which is faster and easier to make than GROG.
You can get 10k basically for free at start, go to exile camp and try to lure tora to the waystation then hand over her bounty to the sheks then hire some mercs and go get the dust king for like 30k. Or just go to Bast and loot dead holy nation soldiers they will occasionally attack drin and will acquire a small bounty, turn them in at sho battai for relation gain with the UC, bast is also an excellent place to train your squad.
U can store in your backpack/trader backpack store it as many as u can then start walking around with it its kinda important for strength training and it leveling up u athletic too ( to walk/run more faster)
Just grow hash and sell it in Strange town. Sitting pretty at 400k atm. I’m 100 days in yes, but getting there was an adventure. Play the game normally, build a crew, build a base, grow hash, buy technology and outfit your people with the best equipment.
so although ur strat at first is based on some rng imo. i got attacked everytime i went to squin early game lol. if u can make it to those places yeah legit great way to make bank. mercs are def under used in many the videos i see. i glad to see someone using them
the best strategy all throughout the game, legging it out of there, most of the time the enemies that attack you are either too strong for you (skill or numbers) or not worth the trouble of killing, kidnapping a unconscious enemy to your shack is a good way to train up skills and you have less of a risk of getting mauled in middle of nowhere and getting your limbs eaten by a wild animal or getting enslaved by friendly neighborhood slave trader good way to strength train is to haul around a corpse filled with iron or copper ore until your strength goes up, then you can USAin bolt it out of there with a backbag full of goodies and leave behind a dust trail for the enemies to cough on
Should have kept the most protective chainmail and a weapon. Part of the point of the looting strategy is to find and keep armors and weapons that are more valuable then what you have on. It is essentially upgrading your gear for free. I know the video is 'old', but three bits of advise that I would avoid. Loot ancient ruins, sell the loot - the only thing you ever need to do! 500k+ southwest of the Border Zone, alone!
You could get a decent sized group of skeleton bandits to chase you to flats lagoon, let the guards kill them, then loot the robot limbs for some really good money
@@Hypeman5454 no those human guys with entire sets of robot limbs that hang out in the same mountain range as the Drug Farm . Got a squad of them to chase me, the city guard killed them and I cleared almost 50k cats from their limbs and another 10k from their equipment.

@@Rasengangstarr id say dustking is to tough for 1 mercenary group, it might work with some capable fighters of your own or 2 merc groups but that is something that could be researched
@@thewombat2558 It's possible with one team, done many times. The Waystation close by gives u the option for Techis. But u should get them for 2 days and have at least 2 characters with big backpacks, the more difficult part is carrying your bounty at this point. If u assemble a small squad it's a nice start since u can train at their tower from day2 onwards.
Train stealth and thievery. This is my method, start with rock bottom sneak to sho-batai train sneak by sneak around town 30 shold be fine. Then train thievery, just steal some shit and then go the darkess conner in some shops or building then drop all shits and grab it again and again to grind theiver. Steal expensive shits in sho-batai mostly grog grind machine or sake, head to helf sell you stealing goods, go to skeleton shop buy an arm then w8 for the night time sneak in to the skely shop steal shits on the shelf, use those to train your thivery ones more when you hit around 30 .Buy a bagpack steal all shits in heft, head to black desert city sell all goods then fine a mastercraft thief arm. Now the money will start rolling steal most expensive skely limps. Didn't have money problem ever since.
I love hasting to Shark and luring the wildlife near the city. One broad swing from the guards and the hell breaks loose with all gangs in the fray 😂. I made 35k in a few minutes by looting all the dead bodies near the city
I tried being adventurous and found myself in the Grey desert day two so many cloud ninja groups and smugglers out that way its not even funny so I just bait them to the waystation and had over 100k cats first week I'm game and bought the tower in the waystation as a base
Get high athletics 55+ then go to a hive village along that river and take the pelts and meat off of the dead beak things that the hive people kill you don’t need the athletics if you wait for all of the beak things to die before looting
there is a video called "How to become master thief in Kenshi" which shows an exploit of sorts on how to speedlevel thieving ridiculously fast, as in level 76 within 5 minutes after setting it up. from that point on you can very easily steal stuff from one store and sell it to another culture/group
@@Rasengangstarr would you consider luring enemies to towns an exploit? If not you can lure Tora the Fearless and her camp to the waystation just north, sell their gear and turn her in for 40k on day 1
i finally got 90 athletics, and i wear the sandales giving 10%boost in athletics. i still cant outurn beak thing....... with 0 negatives on my char. i do believe 100 athletics, and the sandales would do the job...... but i may be wrong in that. i just know as i stated they still faster than me slightly......
If that fails, lose your legs and get Masterwork Scout Legs. You'll outrun the damn sun. Just having 1 on puts Beep at a speed of 31km at Athletics 40 wearing light gear and weightless encumbrance.
The hardest thing was creating a town, its such pain in the ass. I still didnt get it, i am playing kenshi getting 1 million cat just hunting beak thing egg and fog hive prince head, but still cant made a base becuase the micro management system kinda confusing
Don't make the same mistake as me by building anything with F12 pressed.... It absolutely took all the enjoyment from the game to the point i had to remove the hotkey and it sucks because with F12 you can also force build anywhere you want. Walls that show red color by whatever reason you can force them to build but by building with F12 it makes buildings build instantly and at 0 cost..

Great stuff! Straight to the key points, and probably very helpful for some new folks who really WANT to get into the game but just find that its particular way of challenging the player is kind of hard to figure out. I think Kenshi could be renamed: "Pauseable Real-Time Post-Apocalyptic OPPORTUNISM Simulator," and I think that says it all. I play with an extremely modded build (190 ish mods) so a lot of what I do reflects the opportunities and constraints that offers, and I have never really done any of the gambits you describe. Mostly I focus on opportunistically swooping up unconscious outsiders (not Holy Nation Outlaws) NPCs in Hub. It is "kidnapping" but HNO don't care so the crime doesn't result in a bounty and as long as no allies of the kidnap victim are present no problem. You can do with for either bounties, or to capture training partners and loot their gear. But the most lucrative kidnap victims are trader caravans: grab a wounded Garru pack animal and hide somewhere to let the "Committing Crime" timer die down, then loot all the trade goods and sell them off. With three toons using backpacks to be able to transfer all the stuff, I made about 100,000 cats in about a couple hours real-time, maybe half a day in game.

Not really. You can make a ton of money week 1 in the hub along with having a 3 man and by week 2 100k+, literally from copper with 5/6 dudes.

I tired of stealing all day and making too much money, but game without stealing seems too hard, I think i just found how to make it work! TY MAN
I’ll just make leathers. It’s pretty easy to do and it builds your armor smith skill which is helpful later in the game

@Mark Kenshi is what you make of it, and there are many avenues to success each with their various pitfalls.
Kenshi is also a very cruel world full of "unfairness". In the base game your squad can't go past 50 while you may end up fighting numbers 4 times your own. In certain situations, enemies can bypass hit stun even at low toughness to get free hits on you. Some of the starts begin with you in the middle of Venge in the day time while starving. While finding ways to survive honestly are fulfilling, I'd argue its equally fulfilling to find ways to beat the system and earn a leg up.
Besides, thievery and money may net you food and equipment, having just that won't be enough to accomplish anything in the game beyond just surviving.
You still need to put in the work if you ever want to do anything substantial in this game like wage war, hunt bounties, or set up your own city.

Going into business yourself is the way. My playthroughs start with basic looting to get a few k to hire mercs. I hire mercs 1 or 2 days. Then i go loot beak thing nests. Taking advantage of my mercs distracting them to grab the eggs. Also possible hardcore by just specing hard stealth and just stealing them. 10s of thousands of cats to start a smithing or brewing company. I had a sake empire once ( :

Beak thing nests contain bunch of eggs in Vain. Sell for $4200 a piece. Made 200k in 2 days
Yeah that's Tee easiest way to make a bunch of money imo.
Especially since the beak things often leave their nests unguarded and they contain a shit load of eggs.
I made a ton of money by making Toothpick Bolts. They stack in a group of 10, and sell for 121 Cats EACH, so that means one stack of 10 sells for 1,210 Cats a stack, which is faster and easier to make than GROG.
You can get 10k basically for free at start, go to exile camp and try to lure tora to the waystation then hand over her bounty to the sheks then hire some mercs and go get the dust king for like 30k. Or just go to Bast and loot dead holy nation soldiers they will occasionally attack drin and will acquire a small bounty, turn them in at sho battai for relation gain with the UC, bast is also an excellent place to train your squad.

U can store in your backpack/trader backpack store it as many as u can then start walking around with it its kinda important for strength training and it leveling up u athletic too ( to walk/run more faster)
Just grow hash and sell it in Strange town. Sitting pretty at 400k atm. I’m 100 days in yes, but getting there was an adventure. Play the game normally, build a crew, build a base, grow hash, buy technology and outfit your people with the best equipment.

so although ur strat at first is based on some rng imo. i got attacked everytime i went to squin early game lol. if u can make it to those places yeah legit great way to make bank. mercs are def under used in many the videos i see. i glad to see someone using them
the best strategy all throughout the game, legging it out of there, most of the time the enemies that attack you are either too strong for you (skill or numbers) or not worth the trouble of killing, kidnapping a unconscious enemy to your shack is a good way to train up skills and you have less of a risk of getting mauled in middle of nowhere and getting your limbs eaten by a wild animal or getting enslaved by friendly neighborhood slave trader
good way to strength train is to haul around a corpse filled with iron or copper ore until your strength goes up, then you can USAin bolt it out of there with a backbag full of goodies and leave behind a dust trail for the enemies to cough on
Should have kept the most protective chainmail and a weapon. Part of the point of the looting strategy is to find and keep armors and weapons that are more valuable then what you have on. It is essentially upgrading your gear for free.
I know the video is 'old', but three bits of advise that I would avoid. Loot ancient ruins, sell the loot - the only thing you ever need to do! 500k+ southwest of the Border Zone, alone!
You could get a decent sized group of skeleton bandits to chase you to flats lagoon, let the guards kill them, then loot the robot limbs for some really good money
@@Hypeman5454 no those human guys with entire sets of robot limbs that hang out in the same mountain range as the Drug Farm . Got a squad of them to chase me, the city guard killed them and I cleared almost 50k cats from their limbs and another 10k from their equipment.
@@Hypeman5454 they are pretty tough for bandits tho so try to only draw in one or 2 squads at a time. I did 4 one time and they killed all the guards lol

@@Rasengangstarr id say dustking is to tough for 1 mercenary group, it might work with some capable fighters of your own or 2 merc groups but that is something that could be researched
@@thewombat2558 It's possible with one team, done many times. The Waystation close by gives u the option for Techis. But u should get them for 2 days and have at least 2 characters with big backpacks, the more difficult part is carrying your bounty at this point. If u assemble a small squad it's a nice start since u can train at their tower from day2 onwards.
I accidentally did this on day 3 or 4 I think on my 2nd character. Those 10k catz made me the richest I've ever been for now...
Train stealth and thievery. This is my method, start with rock bottom sneak to sho-batai train sneak by sneak around town 30 shold be fine. Then train thievery, just steal some shit and then go the darkess conner in some shops or building then drop all shits and grab it again and again to grind theiver. Steal expensive shits in sho-batai mostly grog grind machine or sake, head to helf sell you stealing goods, go to skeleton shop buy an arm then w8 for the night time sneak in to the skely shop steal shits on the shelf, use those to train your thivery ones more when you hit around 30 .Buy a bagpack steal all shits in heft, head to black desert city sell all goods then fine a mastercraft thief arm. Now the money will start rolling steal most expensive skely limps. Didn't have money problem ever since.
I love hasting to Shark and luring the wildlife near the city. One broad swing from the guards and the hell breaks loose with all gangs in the fray 😂. I made 35k in a few minutes by looting all the dead bodies near the city
I tried being adventurous and found myself in the Grey desert day two so many cloud ninja groups and smugglers out that way its not even funny so I just bait them to the waystation and had over 100k cats first week I'm game and bought the tower in the waystation as a base
Get high athletics 55+ then go to a hive village along that river and take the pelts and meat off of the dead beak things that the hive people kill you don’t need the athletics if you wait for all of the beak things to die before looting
there is a video called "How to become master thief in Kenshi"
which shows an exploit of sorts on how to speedlevel thieving ridiculously fast, as in level 76 within 5 minutes after setting it up.
from that point on you can very easily steal stuff from one store and sell it to another culture/group
I try to avoid anything *too* exploitative, thievery sure is broken, but can be useful in a pinch (such as in a torso only run)

i finally got 90 athletics, and i wear the sandales giving 10%boost in athletics. i still cant outurn beak thing....... with 0 negatives on my char. i do believe 100 athletics, and the sandales would do the job...... but i may be wrong in that. i just know as i stated they still faster than me slightly......
If that fails, lose your legs and get Masterwork Scout Legs. You'll outrun the damn sun. Just having 1 on puts Beep at a speed of 31km at Athletics 40 wearing light gear and weightless encumbrance.

There is no loot in the city ruins for me.
Don't make the same mistake as me by building anything with F12 pressed.... It absolutely took all the enjoyment from the game to the point i had to remove the hotkey and it sucks because with F12 you can also force build anywhere you want. Walls that show red color by whatever reason you can force them to build but by building with F12 it makes buildings build instantly and at 0 cost..

Great stuff! Straight to the key points, and probably very helpful for some new folks who really WANT to get into the game but just find that its particular way of challenging the player is kind of hard to figure out. I think Kenshi could be renamed:
"Pauseable Real-Time Post-Apocalyptic OPPORTUNISM Simulator," and I think that says it all.
I play with an extremely modded build (190 ish mods) so a lot of what I do reflects the opportunities and constraints that offers, and I have never really done any of the gambits you describe. Mostly I focus on opportunistically swooping up unconscious outsiders (not Holy Nation Outlaws) NPCs in Hub. It is "kidnapping" but HNO don't care so the crime doesn't result in a bounty and as long as no allies of the kidnap victim are present no problem. You can do with for either bounties, or to capture training partners and loot their gear. But the most lucrative kidnap victims are trader caravans: grab a wounded Garru pack animal and hide somewhere to let the "Committing Crime" timer die down, then loot all the trade goods and sell them off.
With three toons using backpacks to be able to transfer all the stuff, I made about 100,000 cats in about a couple hours real-time, maybe half a day in game.
