I know bro, but I can't handle enough money for 4k and even for a new 1000 w psu, it's crazy, instead I'll be happy with my incoming 980 running in 1080p, that, in my opinion, it's more than enough, and will reck all new gen games, so, why to bother :D
NOTE: According to Wikipedia, the Radeon R9 295X2 has 11.5 teraflops of computing power, of which makes it the most powerful consumer GPU in the world. To put that into perspective, *that beats a GTX Titan Z or a GTX Titan X, currently 2 of NVidia's most powerful consumer GPUs.*
Ryan Sample You forgot thet the Titan X is a Single GPU card. If there would be an 980 dual GPU out there, your 295X2 would lose. This is like comparing a motorcycle and a car.

Mr. Fuzzums Yes your right, but its "512 bit un-nerfed bus" witch means there is not really a bottleneck with the bus. So both the 4GB memory on both cards will communicate super fast to give you kinda like the full 8GB mem speed.

It's funny how AMD released their flagship R9 290X, and Nvidia was just waiting for that to happen so they an unlock all of the SMX units on their GK110 GPU chip and release the GTX780Ti straight after. Now Nvidia anounces the GTX TITAN Z, and then AMD is like BAM! and releases this GPU at HALF the cost lol.
thats business for ya, only release your best model when the competition ups the ante, that way you make more money on the smaller, weaker stuffs but you gotta make them look like a good deal still which is why flagship cards are expensive as shit.
I don't think that's possible. But if it is, I wonder how that affects the motherboard. I'm guessing that the motherboard manufacturers never thought about what would happen if someone tried this. Imagine calling in to your manufacturer's support and hearing them get confused when you tell them you're running into trouble with your 8 GPU setup. They would be like "you mean CPU? You're trying to install an 8 core CPU?" and you'd be like "No, I mean 8 graphic cores."
Steel_Nugget I can return it but basically, long story short, I already have a 7970 that I couldn't even sell for £180, so thought instead of making such a huge loss, I'd get a 7990 (£350) and Tri-Fire which in my situation is probably the best thing to do seeing as how I'm Asian and being cheap is hard coded into our DNA lol. johntravolta - In the UK, you can get one for £1130 (www.ebuyer.com/640880-msi-r9-295x2-8gb-gddr5-dvi-4-x-mini-displayport-pci-e-graphics-r9-295x2-8gd5?gclid=CIPOtJn-9L0CFSf4wgod12gAOg) but even then, it's way too expensive. For me anyway.
Austin PC builder, here! I like to buy, try and sell as many parts as I can. I got a 780ti close to launch and had a lot of fun with it, but I wanted to sell it cause of its coil whine.. Anyway, a nice guy contacted me and asked if I could meet him in front of his office, and I obliged. When I got to the address it was in AMD's campus here in town! It was odd selling an AMD guy my freshly released 780ti. The same guy ended up buying a delided 4770k from me, as well. Good times.
I Purchased this card in my 5k Pc build. Most games are run on high or ultra @ 4k res. I have never seen anything more beautiful. A person can not explain seeing their favorite games at this res. Its something that has to be seen in person. If you have the money to "burn", its worth it.
***** Well, 20 nm is almost here, and the GPU's we have seen right now seem to do well at 4K. I never said it would be very affordable, and I also believe that we will skip 1440p. I think that in 2 years or so, we would have one decently priced 20nm GPU that could pull 4K at decent settings, and by that time we would probably have some new TN panels for 4K. So that is why I think that 4K will be the new 1080p in 2+ years.
BEAST review... So good... Well done Linus and Luke... Soooo freaking sick... I remember when I had a 64mb back in the day! I love my 780 ti but dammmm !!!!!
Everyone blames the 290s for being hot. I ran BF4, GTA4, Watchdogs for hours and my saphire 290 vapor x tri-x oc (which is faster than stock 290x) never topped out of 50s. The only games that destroy my computer are very old ones, for example Call of Duty 2 SP which has no FPS lock (which i fixed to 100 recently), and my PC ran it at 8000+fps forcing my MOBO to shut my system down due to wattage overheat.
I truly agree linus this card really is enthusiast grade. I would love to see card companies, wink wink, evga, to offer a card that is just the card, no fans no plates. then give, premade options to what you want to put on it, full water jacket, fans and jacket hybrid like amd r9 295x2. this would give the enthusiast the option to chose what platform(card) to use, how to cool it and, how to route it to what ever cooler they so desire. just might be me but looks like im stuck buying a card and taking off the back plate(if one) and putting on what set up I have chosen.
***** TheRAMPAGE572 Henry Liu Mr.Muffington, I think you need to Apologize to RAMPAGE, clearly you're the thick ones, there is an actual CAP in the games FPS, that's what RAMPAGE is trying to point out...
Bingo it really isn't and 3 months later it is proven how efficient the card really is. People forget how damn awful tdp use to be with cpus and gpus. I mean do you notice anything weird.....500 watt and most of these cards used only 2 8 pin connectors. That is way out of spec for 2 8 pin and that is why amd had to release a compatible psu list to avoid melting cables with this thing. We have it pretty damn good today. 4k gaming 120 fps at 450 and lower tdp.
ahalal sucks I'm sorry, but no. In terms of raw power, the Titan Z is better than the 295X2, because a Titan Black is better than a 290X. But does it compensate the fact that it costs double the 295X2? No, of course not, but the Titan Z, no matter the price, is still more powerful.
@VinnieEckhardt it can pull 75 watts from the PCI-e slot, remember ? Also, AMD says it pulls 28A from the connectors, 28*12 = 336W. So 411W total. But if you overclock it, it can start to consume way more and go up to the announced 500W. It's just a headroom wattage, to make sure that people won't plug it in and think that it will only consume 411W, and then try to overclock it and burn down their house...
Computer nerd kids. Of course 780TI SLI rips this card in pieces on 1080P settings. But when you go 2-4K, you will feel the power of 8GB 512Bit dual GPU monster. Which works like a track, not fast, but powerfull enough to rip all known dual SLI on heavy loads. I have 780TI in SLI and i am waiting for 390 - 395x2, because 5-8fps does not matter really, when u have room for future load increase for years
So a friend of mine is getting a beast of a rig. She recently recovered from cancer so she has a children's wish to cash in. She wants a computer for it, but her family said that they would pay for the PC and they would go on a vacation. So now there is a $4500 ish budget, but lower would be much better as long as the performance doesn't suffer more then 5-10 frames. She can't decide if she should get the r9 295x2 because its $600 off right now, get 2 780 Ti's which I think is incredibly foolish, or wait for the 980 and get two of them. What's your opinion on this? She is not an experienced PC builder so it would be challenging for her to put in the r9 295x2 with all the complications. As a side note she only has 1 1080p monitor, which she plans to put gsync in, so I kinda think the whole thing is ridiculous, but she deserves it. Thanks!
Right now, 295x2 is still the fastest graphics card. Beats out Titan X/Z, 980 Ti and even AMD's own Fury X. We would have to wait later this year when Fury X2 or the next dual Nvidia card takes the throne.
+PyroRaider Yes, single GPU would be Titan X. But as a single graphics CARD, it would be 295x2. 295x2 is still just one video card, with two gpus in one pcb.
I decided to simply buy another R9 290 stock clocks for $160 a few weeks back to add to my Ebay 290 I bought right after the mining craze 2 years ago. Spent $217 on that one which was a low price back then. My 290's even though take far more power are in the realm of performance between 1070/1080. ALready had the setup to easily push two cards and only spent $160. Would I like a 1080 over these, well of course but not at $700+. These will get the job done easily for the next few years for me.
Not crush. This outperforms the titan x by around 10-20%, which the 1080 also does. They are about equal in CF optimized setups.. But the gpu is 3 years old, so..
For $160 for a 2nd used card I am happy with my gaming horsepower. I don't play all the new games so as long as it handles my main games (BF4 & Racing Games) then I am fine. I have a two single GPU (AMD 2gb 7850) media PC's on a 1080p TV for games that don't like wide aspect ratios or crossfire. And for even older cards the 7850 can do Xbox 360/PS3 level of gaming no problem.
IDK if ya'll upgraded your setup or swapped out camera, but Luke's section looks much better than before! What did ya'll do, work on lighting or something?
This card is designed for 4k or multi display eyefinity. If you really think that a faster refresh rate (which is unrecognisable by most people) is better over much higher pixel density then go ahead...

Linus can you do a segment about testing old pc components in todays time? this beast deserves some old time recognition
......And I just bought a 7990 ._.
7990 is a very good card lol
That's still a great GPU or GPUs. Also if you just got it can't you return it to get the R9 295?
beameron Yeah dude if you got a good deal, you're gaming at 1080-1440pish and your game isn't too bad in CFX the 7990 is still a great card.
The R9 295x is 1700$ bro
Good times.
"... in most cases." Best unintentional pun I've heard in a while.
I was really hoping for the leaf blower design........
why?
***** It was a joke..
Maddog o
LOL that is so wrong. I love it.
Ben Zimmerman Thx
Wow. For the price of this card alone I could build a whole gaming rig. Craziness.
People give AMD far too much hate. This thing is insane.
Can this run Solitaire at max settings at 60FPS?
maybe
Nope it can barely run Minesweeper at 30fps.
Yep. It can also make comments that aren't shit.
Yep. It can also make comments that aren't shit.
Zcolby Well aren't you pissed off about something?? What's the matter?? You pissed that I have better humor then you do?
I Purchased this card in my 5k Pc build. Most games are run on high or ultra @ 4k res. I have never seen anything more beautiful. A person can not explain seeing their favorite games at this res. Its something that has to be seen in person. If you have the money to "burn", its worth it.
Weird to know that that TH-cam bag was relegated to being pooped on in his attic up until recently
Back when 500 watts only need 8pin
Very good, in-depth review. Keep up the fantastic work!
Cool the video length was just the price of my pizza im eating right now, nom nom
Yes, good job AMD. Cool to see that you take 4K seriously. This is awesome! Hopefully, in 2 years, 4K will be the new 1080p :)
***** By new "1080p" I mean the new standard. Most people have a screen running at 1080p. I hope that we skip 1440p, and go straight for 4K.
@@Whipzki Well, we sure didn't skip 1440p, that's for sure haha.
Lol, it's 2022 and 4k still isn't the new 1080p. It's certainly not uncommon anymore, but it's definitely not the standard.
I actually don't mind the ad's Linus picks for his videos. They are catered for us and I've actually used them a lot in the past. Thanks Linus!
the one he did one ninite helped avoid bloatware
That 135W Intel didn't aged well.
about to pair this with my 9590 to create a supernova
new lighting for luke's benchmark segment looks good
making good use of that 4k monitor :)
My mouth just dropped and my keyboard is filled with drool...
What the fuck is your name
your name is huge!
BEAST review... So good... Well done Linus and Luke... Soooo freaking sick... I remember when I had a 64mb back in the day! I love my 780 ti but dammmm !!!!!
Wow 500 watts for a single card. my entire PCs runs on a 430 watt psu
Mine runs on a 275W PSU :)
NCR TROOPER
4670 & gtx 960
430 is more than enough. A 960 isn't even that power hungry. I've seen people with 1070s and a 400W psu :)
I used to run my 960 on a 350w PSU
Lmao my pc runs on a 400 watt psu
Everyone blames the 290s for being hot. I ran BF4, GTA4, Watchdogs for hours and my saphire 290 vapor x tri-x oc (which is faster than stock 290x) never topped out of 50s. The only games that destroy my computer are very old ones, for example Call of Duty 2 SP which has no FPS lock (which i fixed to 100 recently), and my PC ran it at 8000+fps forcing my MOBO to shut my system down due to wattage overheat.
WHAT!!!! 8000fps???
Zombieslaya980 call of duty 2 runs at 8000 fps on intel hd graphic
I guess its "just" a number
why would you run call of duty 2 on 780ti :P
Sushmit Dey
Because a 780ti is in his computer, and he wanted to play CoD 2 that day.
Can the R9 295X2 in crossfire run minesweeper at low-medium settings?
Can you make an original joke?
USBCords I'm sorry. Was my joke not up to requirements for you?
0 FUCKS GIVEN
no I don't even think that try running solitaire with at least 5fps
TheLgendOfSteve Nope, you'll need millions of potatoes in crossfire to achieve that kind of framerate.
You'll still need a motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU, HDD, OS and a monitor.
"Fairly happy with this card" shut up and give that card, ill be INCREDIBLY happy with it! ...
I get the feeling that I am one of the first of many to be recommended this video in 2021
Bottleneck for ac4 = ubisofts shit programming skills to port this to pc
Like and dislike ? Really ? Shouldn't it be like or dislike ?
What if I want to do both? Don't tell me what to do!
Right,your not a boss!
like and dislike to a group of 2 or more means like or dislike to each person.
The crazy things this video mentions about the card are standard now, lol. The power req's, the heat, the AIO solution, and the length and width.
AC4's max fps is 63fps so yeah
Mr.Muffington Thats not the point the game still only runs maxed 63fps
TheRAMPAGE572
How dense are you.
***** I am aware of 4k lol thats not the point. You will probably see higher fps if the FRAME CAP WAS ACTUALLY UNLOCKED
***** TheRAMPAGE572 Henry Liu Mr.Muffington, I think you need to Apologize to RAMPAGE, clearly you're the thick ones, there is an actual CAP in the games FPS, that's what RAMPAGE is trying to point out...
Mr.Muffington No the frame cap is 63 so how could you see more at 1080p O.o what lol
5 years later and 305mm was long 😂
I forgot just how monstrous the power requirements for this thing were. Maybe a 450W RTX 4090 isn't so crazy after all lol!

What is happening
TH-cam: You need some computer history lessons.
This is more powerful than Titan Z, for half the price
Nope, just nope.
Francisco Costa yes just yes
Francisco Costa yes loool. Its 2 gpus clocked higher then the single gpus and a titan is 2 underclocked titans.
ahalal sucks I'm sorry, but no. In terms of raw power, the Titan Z is better than the 295X2, because a Titan Black is better than a 290X. But does it compensate the fact that it costs double the 295X2? No, of course not, but the Titan Z, no matter the price, is still more powerful.
***** Titan Blacks, not regular Titans. Let's just wait for benchmarks and then we're gonna see who's right.
@VinnieEckhardt it can pull 75 watts from the PCI-e slot, remember ? Also, AMD says it pulls 28A from the connectors, 28*12 = 336W. So 411W total. But if you overclock it, it can start to consume way more and go up to the announced 500W. It's just a headroom wattage, to make sure that people won't plug it in and think that it will only consume 411W, and then try to overclock it and burn down their house...
thank you austin....
???
Computer nerd kids. Of course 780TI SLI rips this card in pieces on 1080P settings. But when you go 2-4K, you will feel the power of 8GB 512Bit dual GPU monster. Which works like a track, not fast, but powerfull enough to rip all known dual SLI on heavy loads. I have 780TI in SLI and i am waiting for 390 - 395x2, because 5-8fps does not matter really, when u have room for future load increase for years
nice review , i'm really happy with my r9 295x2 :)
I have 2 of these in my rig, I love it
+Naomi Kitsune and I'm sitting here wit a single r7 260x ;'( do u have a spare 500$ pls?
Lmao i have a geforce n430. Goml.
Kitsune, we meet again
I haz a stalker
+Naomi Kitsune you must have a serious gaming rig
Wouldn´t it be great if they made a dual GPU GTX 1080ti? Would be nice to see if you ask me
Oskar Andreas Berg but the power..
DarkNessFF ShAh I dont care, ITS gonna cost so Much to buy anyway so you should be able to pay for it if you are buying it
I agree, and besides, 514W TDP isn't much worse than this card right here, for a supposed dual GPU that would trash the card in this video.
I would buy it
Man how I miss these videos. Just pure analysis and no "LTT STORE DOT COM" shit.
ugh these Nvidia and AMD fanboys are just as worse as Xbox and PS4 fanboys.. fanboys = disease to gaming world..
You forgot the Intel fanboy's *laughs*
@@joshualynch4622 forgot ur mom
Yep... AMD runs it in gaming.
Wrong, now rigjt
Thanks!
AMD is the gpu king , cant be dethroned
all hail!!!!
Avast Samble LIES! titan z wins. 12 GB's GDDR5.
intel's gpus dont need to have a water cooler to stay worm.
MinecraftCoder201 what intel? intel doesnt even make gpus
patonoideoriginal GMA X3000 is theres. also i meant nvidia. i was thinking about cpus instead of gpu's.
patonoideoriginal actually they do make integrated graphics cards, which warms up shit quite nicely.
It got recommended to y'all cause you all just watched rginhds video on this thing lol
nice review Linus!
Right now, 295x2 is still the fastest graphics card. Beats out Titan X/Z, 980 Ti and even AMD's own Fury X. We would have to wait later this year when Fury X2 or the next dual Nvidia card takes the throne.
The fastest single gpu is still the titan x
Btw the titan x ( non sli) barely loses to the r9 295x (crossfire)
+PyroRaider Yes, single GPU would be Titan X. But as a single graphics CARD, it would be 295x2.
295x2 is still just one video card, with two gpus in one pcb.
+PyroRaider Titan X is like 30% slower, not exactly a near miss.
+genomeprojekt That's because the Titan Z is a fucking overpriced crap
pro Duo?
God save the R9 295X2.
he did he created water
watching in 2018 with a 1080ti remembering when i dreamt of having this "beast"
this actualy rivals the 1070 so....
@David Whitfield i agree, but its still a relatively powerful card
and a single 1080 FTW can CRUSH these results :DDDD
made in 2014
I decided to simply buy another R9 290 stock clocks for $160 a few weeks back to add to my Ebay 290 I bought right after the mining craze 2 years ago.
Lmao! Nice simple straight and effective rebuttal XD
Finally i can play Minesweeper in ultra ...
I liked the idea behind this card
500 TDP for a dual gpu... my gaming PC has around 550 TDP xDDDDDD
TDP and wattusage is not the same thing.
2x GPU 2x VRM pulling 500W all on that shit 120mm cooler? You've got to be kidding me..... That is legitimately a fire hazard.
Some people ran 4 of this...... In crossfire.....
IDK if ya'll upgraded your setup or swapped out camera, but Luke's section looks much better than before! What did ya'll do, work on lighting or something?
Like and dislike? OKAY! *they both cancel out* *does this repeatedly*
It may win in 4K, but in 1440p the 780 Ti SLI will dominate. And Asus 1440p 120 Hz screen with GSYNC in incoming.
***** i dont know it might look hilarious for some things.
***** maybe a fine too so the person has less money to do it again with?
This card is designed for 4k or multi display eyefinity. If you really think that a faster refresh rate (which is unrecognisable by most people) is better over much higher pixel density then go ahead...
Stupid newbie, you know nothing LMAO.
RimjobsForEveryone look at your name you 12 year old. Oliver makes a valid point. Grow up a bit. People aren't stupid just because you are irrational and aren't looking at a product for what it's really made for.
I got two of these sitting on my desk as decoration
Anyone here from RGinHD?
