I like the fact you aren’t afraid of taking a risk. We do a charity bbq competition once a year. And every year we mix it up a little. We have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and a 6th in pork, brisket and ribs over the past 5 years. I’m making a huge change next year. Changing from an offset smoker to a direct heat cooker. Thinking a little less smoke and add some char vs bark. I get bored turning out the same ole same ole bbq every year, trying to read the minds of the judges. It maybe a big mistake, but I’m going to make it.. Good luck!

WOW! Thats Awesome. Ive been pondering a brisket change myself. I've heard from judges that the wished someone would do a texas style brisket turn in. Butcher Paper Wrap. What do tou think?
Judging needs to be addressed by he sanctioning body. Comment cards need to be made and submitted in order for the criteria to be reviewed. If you feel strongly enough to score someone low you shouldn't have any problem stating why in writing. Bbq should be about taste. Congratulations on being bold and confident enough to try something new and interesting ❤❤
