    Fr. O'Flaherty is one of the reasons I joined the Catholic church as a convert. I have been so happy in our wonderful Church. My husband and daughter converted as well. Fr. O'Flaherty's story is so wonderful! It sure was nice to see all of his relatives in the story of his life.

      It's a wonderful movie. Gregory Peck played Mons. O'Flaharty, and Christopher Plummer played Col. Keppler. The score for the movie was done by Ennio Marcione, and is quite memorable. I have had this movie on DVD and before that on VHS, so it is watched a couple of times a year in this house.

    I recall another priest who saved some 860,000 Jewish lives. His name was Eugenio Pacelli.

    • @therealong
      @therealong 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @bengoolie5197
      Of course, he was pope Pius XII himself, during Mons. O'Flaherty ministry. Watch the mentioned movie, it's a well done dramatization. (PS: Even non Catholics admired it in the comments.)

    • @andrewdownie3251
      @andrewdownie3251 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Eugenio Pacelli was pope pius 12th. According to Vatican documents released in 2020/2021 he and his predessor pope pius 11th were Nazi sympathisers until 1943, when they realised that the Allies would win the war. If you wish to praise a Pope who rescued people from the Nazis then praise Angelo Roncalli ie Pope John 23rd.

    • @andrewdownie3251
      @andrewdownie3251 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you read the latest Vatican documents Pacelli supported the Nazis till 1943 when it was clear that the Allies would win WW2. And who was his closest advisor? Bishop Montini, later Pope Paul 6th. If you want to honour Catholics, like I do, who saved Jews and others from the Nazi Gas Chambers, honour men like O'Flaherty, Maximillian Kolbe, and Angelo Roncalli, the future Pope John 23rd.

      Hitler probably was. But then Gabriel Amorth, chief Vatican exorcist, said Stalin was also possessed. But Christ told the Pharisees that Satan's kingdom could not be divided against itself. However, Hitler attacked Stalin.

    An inspiring story of understated courage and unwavering faith shown by Fr Hugh O' Flaherty, and the many others, who risked the constant threat of torture and death, all through the German occupation of Italy during WW2. Any criticism of the Catholic Church's reluctance to condemn the Natzi Tyrany should stop and consider the consequences to the many Jews who owed their lives to The Vatican during that terrible time. If Pope Pius X11 had spoken out openly against the Natzi regime, then that would have immediately put the Vatican under greater suspicion and would have made any rescue and shelter of Jewish men women and children almost impossible. The fact that Fr O'Flaherty could forgive and befriend the Natzi officer, who would have had him put to death in the blink of an eye, is astonishing. But that is the very quality that made him a good priest.

    When he put his foot in one side of the "line" and then, the other, I thought he was going to quote the movie:"the scarlet and the black", starring Gregory Peck as father, opposite Christopher Plummer as the bad german.

    Cuando ponía un pie a uno y otro lado de la línea divisoria, pensé que comentaría acerca de la película "ESCARLATA Y NEGRO", protagonizada por Gregory Peck (vacaciones en Roma, las nieves del Kilimanjaro, Matar a un ruiseñor) y Christopher Plummer. ( La novicia rebelde)

      There is a lot to solving and issue. And this is one of them. Be grateful for someone like Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty because it is about saving those who are innocent. They had to
      Learn that there are good people out there. The Jews needed to know Jesus Christ in the form of Fr.I O’Flaherty. It was a good thing that he did. The Jews did not know Jesus back when He was alive. So this gave the Jews some time to repent and be sorry for their sins and be forgiven. 🙏❤️🌈🎶🌎☮️
