Thanks for this. I saw this on the update log but wasn’t clear on what it really meant. Nice to see it visually illustrated.

I think this is perhaps the best Pro Tools content provider on the whole of YT. And I doubt I've missed many. Or any.

Ha! Thanks Philip, much appreciated! Any Pro Tools topics you'd like me to make a video on?

@@protoolsservices9816 Well so much has happened in the Dolby Atmos realm even in the last short while with updated software too. But I just want to say that you really are a very special individual for your sincerity and generosity. Many many thanks.

Hi Jon: Is there a way to find out how much TIME I spent on a PT session from start to finish? I have a client who’s paying by the hour and I wanted to be able to show him exactly how much time I spent mixing his session by dates and hours. Etc. Thanks for your time.

Hey Paul! How's it going? yes there are a couple of options for that...

Hi, Do you have one on the bars and beats ruler, can't make it big enough. The other struggle is trying to put markers in, and getting accuracy to line it up with my track.

Hello Colleen and thanks for the comment. So, regarding Bars and Beats... If I understand your comment correctly... does this "Add Ruler" function also apply to Bars and beats? Yes and no. If Add Ruler is enabled in an active Track group, yes, a timeline selection will include the Bars and Beats ruler. However, if you delete copy and/or paste, the Bar numbers in the Bars|Beats ruler will remain consecutive. In other words, it's not possible to have more than one Bar 7 for example.
With that said, if there is a meter change at, for example, bar 12 from 4/4 to 3/4. Shuffle deleting 2 bars prior to bar 12 (with Add Ruler enabled in an active Track Group) will advance the Meter change from bar 12 to bar 10 because the meter ruler would be included.Sorry for the long winded reply and let me know if this is not clear.
As for accurately placing markers... here's a couple of things that may (or may not) help. If the music in the session was recorded to the Pro Tools click (The Bars and beats are accurately in sync with the music. Use "Grid" mode. This will snap your cursor placement to the grid lines in the session.
If the Bars and beats are not in syn with the music then try using "Tab to Transient" to accurately place your cursor based on a waveform. Enable Tab to transient button at the top of the Pro Tools Edit window under the Zoomer Tool (magnifying glass). Then click in an audio (or MIDI/Instrument) track just to the left of the waveform peak or note you want to land on. Then hit Tab on your keyboard.
Let me know if this helps or not.
      Jon

still can't lock markers to regions or timecode, right?

    • @protoolsservices9816

You can now create markers on individual tracks in addition to the main Markers ruler. You can move, cut copy or paste those markers in the Markers and/or tracks marker ruler by shift clicking in the marker ruler to select it then moving. But, no, I don't see a way to lock a marker to a clip.
With that said there is the "Sync Point" which is another form of identifying a location within a clip which is "locked" with in a clip and moves with it with out modifiers.
As for timecode, markers can be "absolute" (sample mode as opposed to tick mode) which ties them to an absolute position on the timeline. The absolute rulers are Timecode and Minutes/Seconds. This prevents them from moving if a tempo change is made. It's possible to move an absolute marker in the same way. Shift click in the marker ruler (main and/or track marker ruler) so that the selection is extended into the marker ruler. You can then move, nudge, cut, copy and paste that selection, including markers to another location.

      @@protoolsservices9816 thanks! I still don’t understand why Avid don’t let us sync a marker to a region…
