Imagine being that ref and being so determined to make the wrong decision. Clear red card for Freeman, NWSL refs are a joke and the lack of cameras make VAR useless

I think in spirit of the game, everyone expects a red card there because it is to the ankle. It’s a hard surface to a softer surface. I see a lunge so for me I have Red card

Yeah, I suspect if there had been an angle 90 deg to the one shown, it would have shown the defender’s ankle folding badly.

I wouldn't disagree with a red - as Greg said it's at least an orange card - but if you look at the fouled player's teammates, both of whom had a clear view to the foul, neither of them is shouting for a red the way I almost always see when a teammate is fouled with SFP or VC. That's never a direct consideration, but to me it's circumstantial support that yellow wasn't an obvious error.

@@johnmcgimpsey1825 That seems like something that shouldn’t be considered at all. I’ve seen plays where teammates were focused on something else when it was a brutal foul, and there were no complaints; while on the flip side of that, there are plays where there was no contact at all, 100% embellishment, where teammates were chasing the ref all over the field about it. It should bear absolutely zero weight whether players are getting upset about it.

@@DukeTrout Yeah, that's why I said it wasn't a Consideration, the referee didn't consider it, and I didn't argue that it should have been considered by the referee. I was speaking as an after-the-fact viewer of a video, where the perspective and feel for the game is extremely limited and I'm looking for corroborating evidence.

@@johnmcgimpsey1825 alot of the players were complaining about the foul after the injured player got back up and even the player herself was shocked it wasnt a red so much that she posted to twitter about it. i think the ref would have gave a red if she got a bettter look at the close up angle bc it would've shown that the boot did go quite high, just unfortunate that the communication between the ref and var wasn't very good.
