Here's a fun note. Tim Foust actually gave Avi pointers on how to hit lower notes. Kinda disappointed that no mention of Tim's massive low note at the end was mentioned. :(

Tim can go lower, but never sounds as rich as Avi. His bass notes melt me, even if they aren't as low!
Eric & Michele Leid that’s party because Tim sings country which takes a different type of singing then pop, and Avi only “melts” you (that’s a weird way to put it) down to like the A1 or so. I do agree he sounds really good, but Tim from about the G#1 on down definitely sounds better to me. Even though he might not chest everything, his growls sound super good. He also does more of a chest-fry mix usually because he sings country.
My take on the whole hat thing is that, Avi is giving the "Hats Off" to Tim for hitting that low massive note. I love Avi, but I've learned that Tim can go even lower than most bass men. Tim also has a 5 octave vocal range and isn't afraid to use it. I love both of these talented men. They virtually have that bass sound down pat, but yet sound so different. Avi is classically trained and you can clearly hear that Operatic sound come through, and Tim has that southern smooth as silk sound, but with a country twist to it. BTW- Some fans think there is some kind of big competition between the two groups, but the truth of the matter is: #1- They are two completely different groups, singing in 2 completely different genres. And #@2 PTX & Home Free are very good friends, and have been for years, just as they are with many other A Capella groups out there today..

Cindy Flory I agree with every word you wrote. I came here to comment on the significance of the hat thing, but you had already said it perfectly. It's a tribute. It's interesting to note that it was not just a beanie that he took off; it was a PTX beanie. I was mildly surprised at how well Avi adapted to the country genre, but now that I've heard his own work as Avriel & the Sequoias, which ranges from classical to bluegrass, I don't think I'll ever be surprised at ANYTHING Avi does again!
I still prefer Avi’s voice. IMO, his voice is more soulful

There are various videos on TH-cam showing both Avi and Tim's vocal range ... just type in "Avi Kaplan Vocal Range" or "Time Foust Vocal Range"
Ya I know Avi can sing those notes too, but he just didn't do them in this song! I'm an Avi fan too, don't worry, lol! Also DO Legacy I have perfect pitch so that's how I know, I also watch a lot of vocal range videos!

You want something that'll really blow your mind, Avi did a collab with Peter Hollens, a little song called "Black is the Color Of My True Love's Hair". You will have shivers for quite a while after. It also introduces Peter Hollens, who is someone you will probably want to react to also. He, feat. Bailey Pelkman, did an ABBA medley that is really really cool.

Great reaction as always! Check out "Black is the color of my True loves hair" with Avi and Peter Hollens and it's a cappella (they both layer many parts on the song but it's just the 2 of them). I checked your channel and couldn't find if you reacted but it will get your Avi bass heart string plucked! I say I feel his notes in my spanx (wink)!

I just discovered the whole “Reaction” thing on here. I have to say I truly enjoy watching your reaction videos. I would absolutely love love love to see you react to Home Free’s Guilty Pleasures hilariously derailed video. My face and sides hurt from laughing. I immediately thought of seeing you react and said to myself, I gotta at least try. Have a good one and keep on doing what you do Darlin.
That last note by Tim Foust was one of the lowest that can be done in the “growl” register. Tim has a five octave range, and he and Avi are among the few in the world referred to as “basso profundo”...that can sing in the lowest registers. Tim sings like that on Peter Hollen’s “Misty Mountains”. This was recorded before founding member Chris Rupp left the group. He was replaced by Adam Chance, aka “Chance”. Chance is also an accomplished bass, so Tim can now flex his vocal range more often, because Chance will do the bass. I see you’re impressed with Adam Rupp, the beatboxer for Home Free (he founded the group with his brother, Chris)-Adam is widely regarded as one of the best beatboxers ever. The best video to hear him at his best is “Mayday”. That video is a fave of mine because Tim sings HIGH (he does have a five octave range), Chance sings low, and Austin and Rob kill it on tenor. It’s a great recording!

I’ve watched this vid dozens of times and while I noticed the trucks, I TOTALLY missed Avi taking his beanie off and putting on a cowboy hat. Haha. Good catch!

Oh you were killing me because you kept pausing the video right before Avi hit the deep bass of "but the fire went wild" and I knew exactly how you were going to react. And you didn't disappoint (like always.) Now really the next thing you need to react to is Pentatonix "Aha". Watch the regular official video first and then watch the live performance "Aha" Singapore, The Star Vista. That live performance is what sold me on becoming a Pentaholic.

Yes. While Tim can go deeper and has an amazing range (no disrespect to him at all! he's a great singer), there is something that's just so sweet about Avi's voice.

I'm not an expert, but yes that stance is a cowboy thing. Most of the time you will see someone do that stance if they are wearing a big ass belt buckle with an intricate design. I mean you got to show it off if you've got it.

Yep, in the southern US it's called a field party. You park your cars and trucks facing the center of a field, clear a safe spot, light a bonfire, turn up the music, pull out the blankets, coolers and snacks and have a party! Awesome times!

I know you love Avi but Tim hits a much deeper note at the end and no reaction? Tim has a 5 octave range and can hit notes as low as G0 (much lower than Avi). Give the man some props. And please react to more Home Free: Mayday, I Can't Outrun You, Hillbilly Bone, In The Blood, Country Fried Pop Medley, etc.... There are so many.

@wbish3: From what I've seen someone say about their VIP question and Tim's answer, Tim has more than 5 octaves now (around 5 and a half) since he's been working really hard on both his extreme low and high notes, and according to his own words, he wants to reach 6 octaves.
The reason Avi's sounds more impressive, at least to me, is that it's very low and also very powerful. Tim's last note sounded very deep but like it had nothing on it, very weak and quiet. I'm not a professional. It's just what it sounded like to me. I personally like his low note earlier in the song better! I like them both. Great reaction

As a Kentucky gal, meeting in the middle of the forest, truck tailgates down in a ring around a huge bonfire is totally a thing. Also, as much as I adore this version, you should totally watch their original performance on The Sing Off. Tim goes EVEN LOWER. It’s AMAZING.

Home free is divine voices out of this world and Tim's bass is unbelievable! There are no limits to him. Avi is great but sorry I love Tim's voice, he will sing everything not only in the bass.

Technically, Tim can go much lower than Avi, Avi can only really go to Eb 1 and Tim has been recorded going down to a G 0

True. I sing bass in my choir and at 17 I can only hit a solid E2. As much as I like hearing them go that low there comes a point where the note just sounds breathy and bad even though still impressive

Here southwest of the United States we have large bonfires like that year round. Usually there is a lot more people and drinking, food and goofing off.
We do this all the time in the south!!! ... At least when it's cool enough for a fire!
