    I like the crate system because the quizes and tests are already in the week bundle. You're less likely to forget those things if you're not using your manual daily.

    I got one of my 6th graders crate almost done! I put in blank sheets of paper with the lesson and week number on it and I also wrote Spelling Trial Test on it. I did that for all the homework quizzes for Science, History, Health and Language and Vocab and Comprehension too. Hands down breaking the video manual down the way you’ve shown is the best thing I have done. It is so much easier to look at and look through! I still have to do the Art book and Creative writing. I will probably spiral bind the Language book since it is such a mess with the page numbers and lesson numbers. It just confused me so badly. 🙈

    • @simplyhomeschool18

      Yay!!!! If the spiral binding makes more sense for you, I would definitely do it. Anything that makes it easier is a win.

    So happy I found your channel, if you have the opportunity to do this with Grade 3 please do, this will be my first year homeschooling and the organization is what makes me most anxious, cause honestly after that it's just handing the appropriate sheets with the dvds from what I understand and taking it from there .... Happy to be a subscriber please keep the amazing videos coming 🤗

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @lyss Gems Yes, I am definitely doing an organizing video for my 3rd grade curriculum. We don’t have the full curriculum by Abeka this year, so I think I’m going to have to do it a little different. But I do have a 2nd grade organization video, and it’s pretty much the same as the 3rd grade curriculum. So, if you don’t like the way I do it with my 3rd grade curriculum this year, you can always do the filing system like my 2nd grade video. 😬 I hope that makes sense 😉 Don’t get discouraged, it looks like a lot but you will get the hang of it pretty fast. And I agree, the first year is always overwhelming, but it will get easier. 💕

    Such great and detailed organization ideas especially since this is our first year homeschooling and we are using Abeka and my oldest is in 6th grade so this helps me a ton! Thank you! I am so happy this video is helpful. 🤗 So when we do our weekly Binder, it has 5 folders in it. One folder for each day of the week. If she has lesson 5 (Friday) on one side and lesson 6 (Monday) on the other side, she will put it into her Monday Folder (in her Binder) for the following week instead of putting it in our “completed” basket to be corrected. 👍🏼 Man, I hope I wrote this so it makes sense. 🙄 lol..... just message me if you have any other questions. We actually don’t use abeka for science. But, when we have projects that are done within a few weeks, we just keep the work aside and grab it whenever the lesson calls for it. If it is something that has to be done on her own, we just do it a little here, and a little there.

    So I see you out the work in by week. So does the child just pull the work for the day out? Do u leave the completed work in the folder, what do you do at the end of the yr with the work? Also, how many sheet protectors did you use? What does your niece use the binder for? When do you correct her work? Do you have links to the the supplies you used?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi @Allison Coble. Yes, I sort the work out by week and than per day. Each file folder has 1 well worth of work. Then I separate them into Monday-Friday. Each Sunday we put the work into her binder. Her binder has 5 folders in it. One for each day of the week. So, on Monday she would pull out Mondays work for the day. When she was done, she would put it in a basket tray for correcting at the end of the week. When it was all corrected, we put it back into the file folder. At the end of the year, I put all the work in a box and save. You probably don’t have to but we do. You’re going to want to check your laws for your state. With the sheet protectors, you don’t need them. This year I’m skipping in that. But, it’s all about preference. And I just linked some of the items.

    Ok so correct me if I’m wrong but you have one file box per child? A binder for appendix’s, teachers video Manual, and a cheat sheet/homework binder. This is 3 binders per student? I guess that’s not including their weekly binder the transfer their work week in?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tanya Chapin hi, so for my niece (6th grade) we use a crate with her weekly folders (lessons). We have a binder for the Appendix and a binder for The Daily Guides (parents). Then she has 2 Cheat Sheet/Chart Binders (student). One is for her Math and the other she uses for Penmanship. She likes lessons to be transferred into her binder, but that is just her preference. It keeps her organized. If you would rather have less binders, you can always keep the Appendix and Daily Guides together. Or keep it as it comes. And you can also keep all the cheat sheets/charts in one binder as well and just use dividers 👍🏼🙂. I am actually going to be posting a video of what I do to prepare the binders. Don’t forget to hit the notification bell if that is something that you would find helpful. 😊 Have a blessed day!

    Sorry another question! So once you get all the organizing done and you pull the week out to start school, what then? Do you just let them know what video/lesson they need to do throughout the day? Do you have the lessons written down for them, or do they write it down?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tanya Chapin I copy out some of the assignments from the daily guide binder into my weekly planner just so I have an idea of what they are working on throughout the week. I will then grab out the lessons for that day from the folder (crate). Then my niece will put them in her folder for that day. She knows to grab the math seat work while she is watching her math video, and so on. She is also is in charge of getting her own dvd setup. If would like them to have a planner you can always go over their schedule with them, and have them write it in their own planner. It’s really all about preference and what helps you and the kids. 😊 We were doing that but I felt it was double the work. You can even write it on a chalkboard or whiteboard if that would be better. I hope this makes sense! 😬

Now that we are getting ready to relocate across the country I am seriously questioning if it’s necessary and im thinking its not. Now that we are unaccredited I can see the importance of keeping all the tests, quizzes and completed progress reports but not all the completed worksheets. What are your thoughts on this??? Hi Jessica. Abeka uses your start date as a reference to when the progress reports are due, to be mailed to them. You may want to find out when your first progress report is due. That way you can see how may days/weeks you have until then. It will be much easier to plan out. Also, their work is planned out by lesson numbers. If you plan to start school on a Tuesday and you school until Friday, that would be lesson 1-4. Whichever day you choose to start the next week you just continue from where you left off. So say you start Monday and school through Friday that would be lesson 4-8. Hope this helps! 😉

      Im going to try my best to adopt exactly what you have done. I am facing new challenges this year with adding 2 students a toddler and a newborn. I need everything very organized and neat. The curriculum will be delivered by the end of this week and I am getting the supplies all ready to go so I can put it together in crates and binders like you have show as soon as it arrives. We are still on the 3rd quarter of 5th grade but I feel compelled to get 6th grade ready immediately since we are moving in a month! I decided to use cascading over the door hanging pockets to hold the folders for daily work Monday-Friday versus putting them in binders with with folders for the Monday through Friday work. They will each go the the folder holder and grab their Monday folders on Mondays and Tuesday folders on Tuesdays, etc. When their work is completed and I’ve graded and entered the scores on the progress reports I will put back in the crate under the corresponding lesson week. At the end of the year their parents can decide what they want to keep and what they want to discard.

      Lol. I’m so happy it could help. I know how overwhelming it can be just starting off. So, ultimately it depends on you and how you like things done. If you think you will need an extra push to get through the lessons, than I would suggest accredited. But if you feel like it would be easy for you, than I would go unaccredited. But honestly there are pros and cons to either. With accredited, you will need to mail in specific tests and you will have to call in for reading, etc. but they will send you report cards and they will keep your records in order. Unaccredited you would follow your own timeline (as long as it fits your state laws). You would be in control of basically everything. Grading, report cards, etc. I would definitely look into it and just do what feels right for yourself and your son. If you started off accredited and felt it wasn’t a good fit, you can always change to unaccredited.

    Can you share what you did with the 5th grade penmanship? Did you rip it up and put it in the binder system too?

      Hi Tanya Chapin. So I cannot remember what we did with her 5th grade penmanship. But, I will say that I have organized grade 1,2,3, and 6 penmanship into the folders. So, I’m pretty sure I did with her 5th grade as well. In the 6th grade organization video above, the penmanship section starts at 25:40. I’m not to sure how helpful it will be for the 5th grade penmanship because Abeka sets up each curriculum different. But maybe it will help. 😬👍

    Hello, what did you with history, science, and health books?? I didn't rip those apart because it didn't have the lessons printed on the bottom. How did you organize those?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Silgava. I literally had to look through the Daily Guides to see what lessons they were in. 😬 Than I wrote the lesson number on the bottom and filed them accordingly.

    That sounds so complicated. My son used abeka at his Christian school for the past three years. This year I'm home schooling him w abeka . I don't remember them having to separate all those papers. Is it not easier to just do each lesson in the book? U already know what chapters u r to complete for English or math each day or by week end...

      Sandra E Hi. Honestly the 6th grade was a little more complicating to do the crate system with. We’ve done the crate filing system for K5, 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th and I’m telling you. K5-5th was so much easier. And it made each day super easy to just grab the folder they needed for the day. This year for 7th, we decided to leave the books intact. But in my opinion, doing the filing crate and the binders made it so much easier. It took a little time for preparation, but it paid off during the year. 😊

      I can’t remember for sure. It’s been a few years. If I were to guess (which I am) it is a 3” binder. 😉
