Maybe because they were getting nowhere in there relationship, they were too scared. He says that he came back they said they would stay friends. When they saw each other again, they decided to stay friends. The girl still loves him, and the boy still loves her. They love each other, but the guy thinks that he will break her heart, so he stays away from her. He loves her so much, he doesn't want to date him, cause hes scared that he will break her heart. This story is just so beautiful and only proves complicated and beautiful the world is.
