      @@1chienandalou Yes, I mean, she looks sad for not been able to beat the number one (with may feel worst for her because number one is one of her closeist friend). But she should foucus in beating number two first. As the points, ISU always does that and put the number one above the others, it's unfair, but it's a judges problem.

      I agree...Madison H can't assume that Gabi felt like she's already won the Olympic gold medal...that's the most ridiculous comment she said about her so called best friend...a real friend should be supportive. Maybe instead of being bitter and questioning/denigrating G&G's quality of skating, Madison should focus on staying humble and work harder, maybe then they would have a chance to reach G&G's level of skating..

    • @1chienandalou
      @1chienandalou 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      That’s a bit mean. There’s not much they can do. Hubbell and donohue are already very hard workers and in terms of skating skills one of the strongest fastest and masterful actually. Id put them in the top three in skating skills in the world. I don’t think Madison was denigrating G&G but thinks the scoring isn’t fair. I dont think that explains all the gap between them and PapCiz though... She’s just a competitive personality. And I think maybe she wants to set sights on some goal, which seems to be winning against the best pair at the moment. And in that sense, I don’t think she can do much other than what she’s already doing. They can only do their best. But PapCiz (and one or both of the Russian pairs and/or the Canadians) are likely to do better. To be fair it’s not really about “ level of Skating”, which as I said they already have in spades the skating skills. But PapCiz have an edge over them; un certain je ne sais quoi….

    I think they want to portray the silver as much as in contention so they are talking about beating the French more. Realistically they have no chance at least at this point. Plus it’s odd they don’t talk about Evan’s fall at NHK but keep mentioning Zach’s stumble

    Fear and Gibson are my favorite , they bring me back to ice dance after years with their modernity. I am french and during the european championship Fear and Gibson have shown an amazing short and free program . The french commentateur "Philippe Candeloro" has said that they were amazing and very energic, but he was desapointed by the notatation of the free program , he has analysed that a lot of the skill were downgraded from level 4 to level 3 surprisingly. If anybody could explain me why ? Thx :)

    • @1chienandalou
      @1chienandalou 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I’m not that great at ice dance judging, so it’s hard to explain exactly but for twizzles for example it’s the number that are clean and they lost some points there. Some steps and lifts and spins are harder than others - just like certain jumps are higher value than others and not every skater has every jump. So it could be in the technical program per se, or they can lose level in execution (have you seen the Hubbell & Donahue famous “ stationary lift base!??l” from 4cc kiss and cry sometimes it can be quite drastic. They were expecting a level four and they got level base because the judges thought that he traveled too much for it to be a stationary lift…) Other times people will just have a level three skill in their program.
      Lilah and Lewis are really cool and they do quite well. Just now in the Europeans in the free they made a few mistakes (and were a bit slower than usual imo and less engaged maybe) and Smart and Diaz were “on” and able to overtake them in the free. In the SP they were 4th in Europeans, which is great considering the competition.

    • @lindatannock
      @lindatannock 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm so glad you love them so much! Lewis is my friend (I'm Scottish too).
      I saw that Lewis's twizzle was downgraded to level 3, because he made a mistake in it. I'm sorry, that's all I noticed. I'd need to watch again. I'm an ex free skater, so maybe there was more I wasn't aware of. I thought their marks were low today, and thought they should be at least above the no2 Spanish team in the FD.
      They got a little unlucky today, unfortunately. 5th is still a very creditable result for them though!

      I have really enjoyed watching them grow as a team this season. Their Lion King program didn't excite me much when I first saw it at Skate Canada, I saw a big improvement with their choreo at the British Nationals, and then was absolutely blown away at the Europeans! The change to the final part of the free program - that epic knee slide- I just loved it! They gave my favourite team Smart and Diaz a run for their money. Plus you gotta love a cartwheeling Lewis in the short program. I'm going to enjoy seeing both teams at the Olympics!

    Such a great series. The skaters are allowed to say something. Hubbel basically saying the deck is stacked. The French make a big mistake and yet they are still 10 points ahead. What Marie Franz is saying is also true. There are so many worthy teams. More than I can ever remember. Hope some of these teams retire after this year. Make room for next gen.

    • @Jaia1011
      @Jaia1011 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I can kind of see where Madi is coming from. While it's clear that P/C is the best, there are some competition days where they make some errors and they still get judged based on their reputation of being the best rather than based on what they put out on the ice (for example, recall 2018 Olympics RD where P/C still got very high GOEs on their twizzles when there was a major error that the tech panel called it a level 3). Only Sinitsina/Katsalapov has managed to beat them this cycle and if we're being honest about it, that's really because the Russians are a superpower in skating politics, not because S/K is better than P/C (I mean, Katsalapov can't twizzle to save his life).

      Like any ambitious woman she’s being criticized more than she deserves for being who she is. Is it terrible for someone to have high self-esteem? I don’t see her as talking too much. Maybe strongly but not like she’s cutting off other people or anything.
      It wouldn’t be surprising if she were judged more negatively for being ambitious than for example the average guy who would say the same things. There are countless studies that look at this sort of thing and it’s not easy being a strong minded and assertive female.
      Do I think she’s very realistic aiming for gold? Not really. But I don’t have a problem with her being ambitious and I don’t think it should be a problem on its own.

      @@1chienandalou The problem appears to be that she doesn’t have a strong understanding of her weaknesses. They consistently pick material that doesn’t work for them and which the judges do not respond to. If they really want to win the Olympics, they need to be realistic about where they are at and the, very real, gap between them and the French, Russians, and Canadians. • @graceh4175
      @graceh4175 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I think that Madi and Zach have skated together for so long and that their skill level matches each other better -- you need to skate with someone that is technically on par with you, and I think that if Hubbell and Diaz paired up, he might not be up to it. Plus they would have a setback for a season or two as they learn to skate with someone wholly different. Hubbell / Donohue as well as Smart/Diaz clearly have great chemistry and bond on/off the ice despite not being a couple IRL, so I would argue that it is the smart choice to skate with a partner that works well with you. Gabi and Guillaume are another example of this too: they've been together since they were like seven and their technique and chemistry on the ice has clearly benefited from that long partnership, but they are not romantically involved either.

    • @javi3261
      @javi3261 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually no, a lot of the best teams don't date each other. Just look at virtue/moir, they are the greatest ice dance team and are just friends. More than the chemistry, what counts here is the performance and obviously the skating skills, acting is part of their job, the pros have to know how to do it, and being a couple or family doesn't give them any advantages with the technical part
