Great fight but that was not a Dempsey Roll. It was a slip then lead hook. A dempsey roll looks different in that your ducking as you move forward and with the roll momentum you throw either an over hand right or left. There's a few breakdowns here on YT
Ippos a featherweight though. So impossible to punch that way. Takamura on the otherhand is a heavyweight atm i think so he'll easily lift someone with a punch
This is a great match. Red guy had a reach advantage but he really didn't make use of his longer arms. He could've just tried to keep his distance and fight with his longer reach but instead he succumbed to the blue guy's pressure in the first round but he did try to compensate for his mistake in the first round and started fighting to his advantage, but it was too late. He already lost against the blue guy's pressure and he was playing the way blue wanted him to. He threw that right arm for no reason and immediately got hit by a left hook counter. Red guy is a good fighter for changing his fighting style and trying to play to his advantage but blue guy was just a lot faster, smarter and a lot more tenacious than him. Both are really good fighters but blue was just a lot smarter in this fight.

I think that that technique is the peekaboo a variation of the Dempsey roll it is true it has the concept but the difference between these two is that one of them has powerful strikes but with constant and great defense and the other one (Dempsey roll) is the technique made to kill “giants” which is basically a barrage of devastating blows using the momentum of your feet and body
The funny fact about Dempsey Roll is that people wants to learn this because it looks cool, ignoring the fact if it's really useful or not in actual combat.
these dudes are fighting at the abas WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS. I'd like to see your amateur achievements. Please send link.. oh wait you're just a keyboard warrior
You cant expect him to do a figure eight perfectly... Because it depends on how the enemy strikes... What's important is, he uses the main point of the dempsey roll.
That was just nice slipping and head movement. The Dempsey roll was a bit more. Hard to do though. Watch tyson rip it up. Its mind boggling how much he made people miss with that. Edit: last footwork and hook was pretty savage..
Nah, the main 'shtick' is there - he's stepping in to either punch (using the opponent's body for balance) or weave (successfully dodging a good number of jabs). It's not as refined as Dempsey's, but he's definitely using it for more than novelty, and I'd say he deserves credit.
He hasn't used the dempsey roll. He just waved his head to avoid punches and hit him with hooks, when he found an opening. LAO had a really, really bad defense in this match btw. He don't seem to be used to fight against In-Fighters. PHI mad a decent job tho. It seemed like he switched from a normal cover to peek a boo style sometimes. Really liked his fighting style.
@@Matt_Alaric nope Dempsey Roll is not a simple head bob. It is shifting his weight heavily from left to right to create a momentum which increases your hook power. Bobbing your head is a comon technique for breaking the rhythm of your opponent. But thank you for answering my comment from 3 years ago.
@@RyukenGabse He wasn't bobbing his head, since a bob is a straight up and down movement. He was weaving side to side, and used the momentum of that to add power to his hook. It's not as exagarated as it's shown in the cartoons, there's footage of Dempsey himself doing it and it's not a huge movement.
@@RyukenGabse yeah Matt is correct! You don’t do wide bobs during the damato shift aka Dempsey roll that will telegraph where the next blow will come from and take longer to land giving the opponent plenty of time to counter. Blue trunks did it correctly he stayed tight in the box shifting just enough to avoid a clean jab or hook.
@@House_Husband_Romeo FYI, the d'amato shift is completely different from the dempsey roll. Mike uses the "dempsey roll" weaving side to side to avoid probing jabs or straights from his opponent as he is approaching to get in his range, then when the opponent covers up, he shifts left or right quickly, to create a new angle(this new angle is safer because the opponent has to pivot first before they can throw counters). The dempsey roll however, is a defensive maneuver(bob and weave) that seamlessly flows into an offensive opportunity WHEN the opponent bites the bullet and throws punches.
As a kid grow in Philippines watching Hajime no Ippo give nostalgic in good old days , I'm sure he also fan of that anime. Haha even adult and old people here I remember watched this anime because it's genre about similar to reality and boxing. 😅

Really nigga?
You mean jack dempseys style
killakian It was Mike who really made it shine.
Foobar What? Which language is that?
Gabo Derflinger keep watching TH-cam highlights. Mike never beat any legendary heavyweight.
It works exceedingly well which is why Dempsey, Patterson, and Tyson all became champions
That is not even near a real Dempsey Roll

That is the Dempsey roll...
Whew that's gotta sting. Not everyday you get anime'd on.
