    Photo etched parts turns a model from a relaxing build to a stressful pain in the ass.

    Nice comparison Matt! Like I said in your last video about these kits, they are pretty much the same. What took me by surprise is the decals!! They are different 😳 And a bonus is the frame of the trailer!! Which I knew nothing about!! Well done Matt! 🤘👍

  • @MrModelworx
    @MrModelworx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Exact same kit except the decal sheet, additional wheels and suspension blocks that are in the newer AMT version.
    The photoetch does not come with either kit, thats an aftermarket part (model car garage) that someone put into the box.
    I built the Lindberg kit a few years ago, it's on my channel, it's a good kit, but those blue decals are crap, I masked and painted the blue on mine.

  • @taskmaster58

    I suspected it was the same kit but thanks for letting us know for sure, that photo etch set is after market I have that kit and there was no photo etch in mine so you should thank whoever you bought that kit from for throwing that in there.

    It's so cool, Round 2 owns Lindberg too, so we will be seeing some cross-branding of kits like we did with Revell-Monogram😁
    Another kit is the 1/20 scale Nissan Hardbody 4X4 King cab was originally Lindberg, and now has recently been released under the AMT name too.

    that Lindberg kit seems to be the one that always finds me. currently have 8 of the lindberg 64 polara 330's and 3 or 4 of the johan 64 polara 440's in my collection. one of my lindberg 330's are currently at the ky. motorsports hall of fame and museum, in central city, ky.. I'm very proud and thankful to be able to share my love for the hobby and artform. 😆👍

    Matt I bought the 78 VW Golf kit and found that it was a different kit that the original AMT 78 VW Rabbit kit. I have both and I found out the reissue is actually an Esci kit and quite different from the old Rabbit kit. They didn't call it a Golf in the US til the 90s and the GTI wasn't sold here until 83.

  • @galaxiesteve7139
    @galaxiesteve7139 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Some interesting differences there. To me the Lindberg kit is a little nicer, but it's older so I'm sure cost cutting has something to do with that. I think Lindberg was its own company when their version was produced. Now they are both owned by Round 2 of course. I don't really have a problem with them putting the same model out under a different brand except that sometimes there is a known kit that is, shall we say, a problem model. When they put it out under a different brand someone may think that it is a different model and then they are rudely surprised.

    Thanks again for a COMPARO video Matt, they are great watching and learning. I will keep my Lindberg from decals and tires alone. One rebox I found was my Revell VW bus is the Hasegawa kit witin, they didn't even remove the logo from the chrome sprue! Yes, ejector pin marks from when the plastic is kicked out from the mold block.

    Hey Matt.
    Great way to review kits.
    Didn't know about the trailer frame. Gonna' have to look sharper at some of the others.
    They are saying in the comments that the Impala's are Lindbergh.
    That is correct. The '53 Fords yep.
    The new AMT '66 Malibu is a Lindberg and so is the new Sunoco wrecker. I don't know whether the 442 and the Dakota pickup have been released yet. All Lindberg.
    When Craft House acquired Lindberg, they were trying to up their game. I think they did pretty good with what they released.

    I know it's a longshot, but we would need to find a Jo-Han kit to make a comparison between the 3 kits.
    It's really hard to say if these currant kits are from the Jo-Han molds or new tooling.
    The time from the Jo-Han 1964 dated kits to the new Lindgerg kits just seems to great to be the same molds. Unless someone has definitive facts on this topic, I'll say the Lindberg and
    AMT kits are not from the Jo-Han molds.

    • @MrModelworx
      @MrModelworx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are 100% not anything to do with the old Johan Dodge, that was a Polara hardtop the Lindberg/AMT is a Sedan post body and has way more detail as its a relatively modern tooling.

    • @CycolacFan
      @CycolacFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep no Jo-Han parts or origins. All new tooling from Lindberg.

  • @patrickmoran8790

    At some point when I was young, I had bought a Johan Petty Plymouth Superbird kit, and the kit gave options for a street version. I bought another when I was in the military.
    The Johan Superbird is undersized to be a 1/25 scale kit. The engine isn’t. The chassis details are of a promo “toy” type. The wheels and tires are a one way street for fitment.
    The Johan 65 Petty Belvedere and Dodge kit of the age are more at correct scale, and also a pan chassis with too many molded “details”, promo.
    Shoot, you can combine a Revell Hemi Dart kit with the Lindbergh or AMT Color Me Gone, and have bash fun that will come out as a neat car! And, bash the Dart the Dart into a neat car too!
    With some slicing and dicing, a person can upgrade the Johan Belvedere and 330 also, and Sox and Martin Cuda!

  • @grb351
    @grb351 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    YeH Linberg was bought by Round 2 and they have already reissued some kits under AMT name. The Belvedere is one the the 53 Ford Fairlane is another.

  • @rickzinck9326
    @rickzinck9326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You are correct in the fact that the Lindberg kit & the AMT kit are the same kit from the same Lindberg mold. Only the decals being different. The P/E set that you found in the Lindberg kit is an aftermarket item. It does not come in the kit. On the other hand, The Johan kit is quite different. The Johan kit replicates a Polara hardtop. The Lindberg/AMT kits replicate a 330 post sedan body. May you & your family enjoy a very Merry Christmas

  • @michaelcooke2559
    @michaelcooke2559 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice comparison. Based on my research, I really thought they were the same plastic parts. But, clearly the Lindberg decals are better, because of the blue striping. Also, the Lindberg kit has the photo etched parts. If I was going to build that kit, I would surely find the Lindberg version.

    • @CycolacFan
      @CycolacFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lindberg kit never came with photoetch, those pieces are aftermarket. Probably from Model Car Garage.

    Great comparison! I suspected as much but didn't know (I have 2 sealed Lindberg kits, no AMT version to compare them), I also didn't know about the photoetch sweet! 😁 I did know about the trailer because before a house fire we had in 2011 I had most issues of Scale Auto Enthusiast from 1990 and every issue of Car Modeler (unfortunately they all burned, along with bookoos of other magazines and books 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️😂), but as years went I'd forgotten. Anyways, wishing you and yours a very blessed and merry Christmas, my friend 😊✌

  • @donsgarage684
    @donsgarage684 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Both kits are from the Lindberg tooling. Also the Johan kit is from Johan's own tooling from the 60s. As far as the photo etch, Lindberg did not do it. It seems like the AMT decals are not the right color. The Lindberg decals are a problem when it comes to the blue stripes, but that's just my opinion. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Model on!!!

      No you just get a parts tree that is a shape that can be made into a trailer if you add everything else - a floor, axles, wheels and tyres. There’s no trailer included it’s scrap pieces leftover from when you’ve built the car.

    From what I understand the Lindberg original kit was developed from the restored 1 to 1 car and may have had different stickers on it. Matbe that's why there's no Bondo decals in the round 2 version. The PE parts are after market. The Lindberg kit did'nt come with them. Nice kits and a nice review! Thanks!

    Great video as usual, Matthew ! Keep up the good work !
    Maybe AMT should rename their version of the kit "Color Me Clone" instead of "Color Me Gone" ? ;-)
    Lindberg issued a series of kits of this '64 Dodge 330 Super Stock in the mid-late 1990s with different markings (Color Me Gone, Ramchargers, Maverick...) I had many of them back then and, as far as I can remember, all were mostly the same kit, the only real difference was the decals. Specifically, I had the Color Me Gone and there was no photo-etched parts : this might have been an after-market addition (the kit series was very popular then and they were deemed very good kits, the heydays of LIndberg I believe). The more different kit from the series of Dodge 330 was the stock version, major differences being the option of a slant-six or a 383 engine, and a fully appointed interior.

    Hey Matt,
    Watching this video, and seeing how you like to compare similar kits with one another, I would bet that you could be a paid contributor to
    "Scale Auto" magazine.
    Did you ever think of doing something like this ? Or, maybe, start your own bi-monthly newsletter/ magazine with other car model utube contributors.
    I love this hobby but YOU my friend take it to the next levels. Lol
    You would be perfect for being a
