    The ferry companies must lower down their prices to attract more Singaporeans to visit Batam. Right now, it is $80 return compared to $50 pre pandemic. That's like RM240 which can give u a good time in JB, hence so many people prefer to brave the traffic and head over to JB instead of taking the quick 40 minute ride to Batam.

    • @jimitan1840
      @jimitan1840 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As experience before, once the price goes up to $80. The ferry companies will hesitate to reduce the price. They know very well that there are some people who are willing to pay for the high price unless there is a boycott which is unlikely.

      You should try seafood and wok hey at Okela restaurant near Grand Batam Mall. It's just 100m away from the mall. They usually open at 5.30 pm. The most convenient hotel to stay is i-hotel baloi. It's surrounded by malls, food center, market, and massage parlors. If you're looking for happy ending massage, go to venus spa and Phoenix spa (hanky panky)

      I think it has something to do with diasporas in the States. I mean many Malaysian, Vietnamese, and Thailand people go abroad to the States and they gather communities there and end up making their business area famous while Indonesian people are not so likely. I mean Indonesia itself is huge and you can already find tons of ethnicities here like Javanese, Dayaknese, Minangnese, Indonesian-Chinese, Indonesian-Arabic, and much more (700+), Indonesia is felt just like States and that's maybe why we don't go to the States. In Indonesia we often think that we already live comfortably, everyone speaks Bahasa, and we can do anything we want and that's why just a few of us have the urge to live abroad.
      This way makes Indonesian culture including food isn't that famous because not so many Indonesian living in the States. Things are different when you go to the Netherlands where Indonesian culture and food are highly appreciated and recognized, they even called all Asian shops "Toko".

    Just coming back from Batam (Aug 2022).
    First time there, very disappointed.
    Now needed to pay S$50 for visa on arrival.
    Whole of Batam smelled like sewage.
    Restaurants looked dirty and food was not good.
    Grab drivers were rude and dropped us off at wrong places.
    Communication very challenging, English not widely spoken.
