Early Nov is when the ARC was going to leave Las Palmas. It being 2020, maybe there will not be a lot of boats this time. Enjoyed the weather briefing/planning session and commiserated when you were rowing into the wind while helping deploy an anchor. Your dinghy seems to move well with those oars. Antarctica is sectioned into zones controlled by various countries, so typically permission is sought from the controlling country. Some countries are more lenient than others and fees vary. The most popular Antarctic destination is from South America and is controlled by Chile. Permission from Chile automatically coordinates with military search and rescue, so it's a good thing. Cruising activity once at Antarctica is pretty lenient and usually the various authorities want people to avoid contact with their research stations. The whole process is a result of people requiring rescue from Antarctic agencies that aren't equipped to offer meaningful assistance. If they know you're coming they can plan accordingly.
