I keep a potted larch, I grew it from seed 3 years ago, and what's funny is that without any formation whatsoever it looks like an informal upright style bonsai. It's around a metre tall now. When it grows big enough I want to plant it outside. Just hope noone damages it.
He didn’t buy the trees, he developed them himself from what I am sure were worthless twigs. Besides, all bonsai benches I have seen are rather rustic looking. Nothing particularly fancy. Not even the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars worth trees in Japan are kept on marble pillars.
