Her is what Google lens said about the tree fungi
The common name for the matchstick-like fungus is either swamp beacon (US) or bog beacon (GB)[2] refers to the white stipe with yellow fruiting cap. The genus is notable for growing on decaying vegetation in shallow water.[3]
The saprobiontic fungi depend on wet or boggy habitats, with plenty of rotting vegetation. They live and feed on rotting leaves and stems, breaking them down into smaller compounds on which various plants and animals feed. [2]

I have absolutely no idea but maybe the yellow ice thingies in the tree are a mix of water and resin, that dripped down and froze, kind of like stalagmites in caves? 🤔

Incredible few days! Laughing in that crappy rain shows how much you are enjoying the trail and your tramily.

That stump with ice... to me it looks like someone was cracking eggs either to test how cold it was or maybe setting up a photoshoot.

Just discovered your journey. I love to hike but can’t carry a heavy pack, so I guess I’ll have to experience an AT through hike vicariously through you!
    Avoid Gatlinburg! It’s a tourist trap 😮

I did not see anything that would be considered a "cowboy camping fail". not sure why you would put that in the title. if you are talking about the ice on your stuff, that is just normal cowboy camping. nothing unusual or wrong.

Next: She tries to sleep like a Gator in a frozen lake. Please don't do it but respect to your quilt manufacturer. Others struggle although they have a 0 F rated bag (not a quilt) and liners.

Sometimes conditions don’t warrant the trouble of wearing spikes. Others before you were glad they had their spikes. You just lucked out on no really cold and snowy weather. It looks like your last day was a wet one. Some have had several days of what your last became. Count yourself as being very fortunate. Good luck.

You don’t have to accept any name that’s given if you don’t want or like the name.

@@MaryanneN_ No, but that doesn’t prevent other people from calling you the name you’ve been given.
